I grew up in Devil's Elbow and learned to swim on that little "beach" on the right side of the river just under the bridge. I'm now 77 and that sandbar was the same back in the '50s.

There is no way to didn't mention the Frisco railroad because the Frisco did play a big role in Steelville. I love going to steelville because of the railroad history

I recently had the misfortune of having major car troubles on I-55 in Scott County on my trip from Baton Rouge to St. Louis to finally experience my first Blues game in St. Louis. But, at least I had the fortune of it happening that close to Cape Girardeau. I am embarrassed to say that I had never heard of the city until that day, but I will never forget it. Everyone I met there - tow truck driver, hotel receptionist, and two different Uber drivers - turned what should have been a horrible experience into the beginning of one of the greatest weekends of my life. Because of these people, who are the face of a community to visitors, I will definitely return to Cape to see all it has to offer. Special thanks to Brandi from Candlewood Suites and Brooke who was my Uber driver from Cape to St. Louis. After a two hour trip, I was disappointed that the trip was over because the conversation was that good. Thanks to all that helped turn my lemons into lemonade!

I remember driving across the Chain of Rocks Bridge in about 1959 or 1960 in the back seat of my parents’ car. I found the bridge scary.

I would love to know what scientific explanation has been offered for Jim’s incredible intelligence and ability to predict the future. To me, this story indicates a link between God and dogs, or God and the animal kingdom, which of course we already knew. And we have to presume that the stories are all true. My latest arrivals from Europe were German speaking folks from Prussian Saxony but went to the Republic of Texas first, to Galveston months before Texas was annexed by the USA but they went to New Orleans and by 1850 they were on the first US census that I could find them on. So by 1850 they are in St Louis. By about 1862 one of the sons (my ancestor) was in the Union Army.

I would love a feature of the best Thai food at the lake on the strip. Wok and Roll. The owner Miss Noke is the nicest lady. The food is terrific.

In the 1970s, my family went to their house during the Christmas season. Her brother Paul, lived there, too, and her sister Ruth and her teenage children were there from Georgia. Our family played music and we took our instruments. What I remember more than anything is that they had a cedar tree for a Christmas tree and there were real candles lit on the Christmas tree! I kept a watchful eye on those candles! Clara's brother, Paul shoed horses and her sister, Ruth made baskets.

I feel like an A hole, I live a stones throw away from LOTO and get to enjoy it all the time, that said there's A LOT to do down there if anyone planning on a vacation to Branson MO or something. Definitely worth it.
