That is problematic in states that have rigorous emissions controls like California.

And Oregon😢 dealing with thisssss now. I miss my FC now, where I could do that and just run a bit of denatured alcohol to pass emissions test.

maybe solenoid or relay? did you unplug the battery to let the code reset? is your replacement pump new?

@@HappyPel It was a used pump but it was advertised as working. Was I supposed to unplug the battery? I swapped it out hoping it would just work right away on a cold start.

@@josuu104-7 yes try that first. unplugging the battery will clear the CEL and then you can see if it comes back

@@josuu104-7 I recommend you unplug the negative lead to the battery and wait 30seconds. This should clear the CEL. Then you can see if the CEL will come back after you start the car and let it run for a while.

What does "i swited a solenoid" mean? The code is not related to the catalytic converter.

I am confused... you are saying you had the "p2249" code for "Secondary Air Pump" and the mechanic unplugged the secondary air injector and plugged the same plug into your SSV solenoid and the code went away? P0663 is for "P0663 Intake Manifold Tuning Valve Control Circuit " Also that is weird that the same plug would fit both parts...

great to hear although it shouldn't affect acceleration... its strictly emissions related. my car didn't go into a limp mode when mine went bad

+HappyPel well...... fuck. took it Mazda they did a diagnostic on it that's what they said so I got the part online instead of paying 699 for it. what a bunch of dingle berries. I've taken it to three different places all saying different things wtf is wrong with my car then!

+HappyPel it starts fine. I rev it, it sounds weird it struggles going thru the gears, I'll punch it when I'm stopped and it'll go then it like suffocates . I can barely get it past 50mph. first someone said it was the cat next it was the air pump then someone said it was bad circuit board. super frustrating.

+chaos 48 what about the basics like fuel filter / spark plugs? does it have any check engine codes other than bad air pump?

I'm probably going this route. whoever bought an Exotic Speed exhaust kit, but The website doesn't say cat or no cat. I believe no cat. But I've seen cat exhausts have the same bulge... I don't wanna pull the exhaust just to look through it.... T-T; lazy me

+EduardORSZ check this out www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/fuel-pump-solution-all-failure-modes-176491/ it looks like the 2009+ fuel pump is different but you can replace the whole assembly with a 2009+ one if you wanted. Be careful when you replace it, make sure you unplug the battery and don't have any static.

+Sean Carnevalino It is strictly used to "jump start" the catalytic converter by pumping fresh air into it, thus making it get hotter faster. It may impact the catalytic converter life if you don't have one. You will also have a CEL. Other then that I don't see why you couldn't take it off? Maybe take the cat off too and get a tune?

+ja dl When you unplug the battery, the car's CEL's (check engine light)s get reset.

+ja dl no problem. Listen for it to come on when you turn the engine on. Put your ear to it, its an electrical motor that blows air into the catalytic converter. You should hear it either turn on, not turn on, or make weird noises. It should not make a difference in your miles per gallon. The only function of this pump is to make the car run cleaner on start-up when the catalytic converter has not warmed up yet. It also only turns on for the first 10 minutes or so that your car is on. If you have crappy MPG I would just do a general tune up. Replace your spark plugs, air filter, etc... Also the only reason I replaced mine is because of SMOG checking in my state. They will not pass the car if it has any CELs on.

+JoeTechClips I found a matching Audi part number where you can buy just the pump without the control circuit or metal bracket. Much cheaper... do a google search :-)
