Implementing Sustainability in Major Sports: The Making of a Green Team Webinar
In CGLR’s first webinar of 2025, we explored the role that major sports organizations can play in advancing sustainability. From energy use to waste generation, the environmental footprint of a single sports event can be immense. In some cases, the energy consumed and the waste produced during just one game can rival that of an entire city’s daily consumption. With that scale of impact comes an even greater opportunity to drive change!
In this webinar, Danielle Doza, VP of Sustainability and Environmental Services for the Cleveland Cavaliers, discussed how the Cleveland Cavaliers are tackling challenges head-on through innovative sustainability initiatives that not only reduce their environmental footprint but also inspire fans, businesses, and other teams to take action.

Boat Wrap Project Interest Meeting
มุมมอง 22หลายเดือนก่อน
Winterizing boats in the Great Lakes region is essential due to the cold weather. Every winter, millions of pounds of plastic wrap is used to protect the region’s watercraft. Unfortunately, this plastic often ends up in landfills each spring despite the ability to recycle it. To address this, CGLR's Circular Great Lakes initiative aims to offer an affordable boat wrap collection and recycling p...

It always interesting to hear the perspective of the people who live south of the magic line. Its almost as if your talking of a different planet. Not climate migration but international immigration. Many speak of the big bones of some of the older US cities like Buffalo, Detroit and Rochester but we never had them. Toronto was often comparable to Buffalo in the 70s now Toronto has just passed Chicago in municiple population. Small towns are tripling in population. One of the differences I see is while not always popular municiple boundries can and are changed by the provinces and because there are many fewer provinces than states there is closer coordination with the feds.. More 4 lane highways are being built. In Ontario a green belt was declared around the GTA limiting sprawl which has forced major densification usually in the form of massive building of townhouses. A conservative government tried to change the greenbelt and were taken to the woodshed. Older small homes inside the city are being bought up and replaced with mcmansions. Ontario's population is projected to increase by 46% tp 21 million by 2050 its population in 1970 was about 8 million. That said I suspect there will npt be great migration of Americans here. But our issues are very different from what you descibe.

Why not make new farming technology mandatory? The new farming tools use AI to scan and recognize weeds and shoots them with lasers. It stops pesticides and it shoots fertilizer directly on the plant roots. It uses 40 percent less fertilizer

Why do 90% of Canadians live in the southern part of Canada near the US border? Is it too hot north of Toronto?

They don't about 15 million in Ontario out of a total population of 40 million. Currently most of the country is very cold with limited summers. The projected climate chang will roughly move climte 400 miles north which means more of the population will live further north.

Someone hit on a good point. The first wave of migration has peaked and the second is on the way. So what to expect? I am from around Toronto and the first wave has pushes housing prices to significant highs. Availability has become a limiting factor. Local young people cannot afford housing and have been looking elsewhere. I just watched a talk on how a guy developed some software to predict future value for property. He was working on this for Shell. Big money is going to be competing for property in the next wave. In considering what locations must concern themselves with in reguard to climate events, you had best refer to the IPCC's report. However, when looking at the RCP numbers, you should consider the rate at which we are reducing emissions. We are 48 months behind on emission reductions and the lower RCP pathways are no longer available without significant effort. As to the issue of numbers, how many should you expect. There are projections made years ago, that 150 million Americans will move up to around the great lakes. A staggering number to consider, I expect 10% will move to the Canadian side. The projection sites long term drought in the west and midwest. Temperature rise and sea level rise push folks at rates determined by climate events. There are no models for how it happens, but it will not be pretty. Expect the worse and hope for the best! Good luck🍀

I live in Michigan. My suggestion is to build a wall along the borders. Without a wall the hordes are coming. You wont get away from the reality of migrations to come.

Like Amiel I've lived out west for 30 years. (AZ from NE Ohio). I'm moving back to NE OH for many of the same reasons. The Canadian Forest Fires opened my eyes to the reality that even a rich northern environment by the Great Lakes can burn and to expect the unexpected. In addition to climate change I'm moving because the once small town I live in changed for the worst when thousands migrated here during the pandemic because it is warm and sunny and they could work remotely. The culture of this place is lost, crime has skyrocketed and housing is owned mostly by investors or corporations. I visit NE OH and tell them to hold on to what they have. I caution anyone that promotes their pristine environment to think about it deeply. Corporate Contractors as of this last week are breaking ground on housing developments of 700 homes in Southern AZ! The Great Lakes region has always had this complex about being uninteresting and undesirable. Please listen to me when I tell you those of you who never left it were right all along and the farms and the beauty and the values that you hold dear are valuable, priceless and threatened by what is coming. Appreciate it and protect it.

To help with environmental cleanup and provide additional possibilities for for small businesses for the interested and energetic, I recommend Michigan put a tariff at the manufacture's level and at the dispensing site of all plastic used in sales in Michigan as a pilot project to assist in the collection and recycle efforts and help remove the burden from some of our current locations.
