Asking Notre Dame Students for Freshman Advice
Greetings. I skipped around your video looking for what makes ND suck but never found it. You seem to have your finger on the pulse of things so I chose you to give an opinion. BTW. I graduated 50 years ago when things were 73,544% different if not the total opposite of today. The students pretty much ran things. I could tell you stories to make your head flip. Lived in Sorin Hall, third floor. Anyway, I am publishing a book next month and thought of advertising it to the ND community. Wonder how I would do and that and more importantly, should I do that given the book itself. The title is: My First Sunday at Notre Dame was My Last Sunday as a Christian/Catholic/Theist. The book is actually a series of conversations with ChatGPT on the subject of god. Both sides are well represented as ChapGPT showered me with counterpoints to create balance. But having said that, would such a book be iill received or is there an open mindedness that prevails? Would the administration get ruffled? I understand that years ago an atheist club was disallowed from taking form. How does what I'm suggesting rub you? Thank you for your response. John B.
great vid g
I love the excitement in this one! Keep being awesome-can’t wait to hear more stories! 😄🎉
It would have to be the location/weather. I love ND, but I can't imagine how a recruiter sells South Bend to a top athlete (or anyone). There is nothing in South Bend except Notre Dame. The best thing that can be said is, "It's about 70 miles from Chicago..an easy drive...unless there's another snow storm."
amazing! im from cuhk~ glad you loved hong kongg
excuse me, I'm wondering if this is a good school to go to for pre-med and then medical school.. please reply~
Father Jenkins is now is the president of my high school
as a Hong Kong student who loves nature and hikes, your perspective of this place reminded me of the fact that just how beautiful this city can be, which can be SO slept on and I feel embarrassed of not appreciating them as a local then you guys and other foreigners. and MAN do you have great energy on these videos, love it
Is this a quad?
The first guy is the enemy of all white Americans.
Nice video, hope to see you in Hong Kong again in the future!
As a lifelong Marshall fan, it was a bucket list goal to even get to see the Herd play at Notre Dame. Then Marshall won. I ran out of the stadium and actually wept. Notre Dame fans were class and the whole trip was great. Go Herd.
ND has been my lifelong dream!! Applying REA this year! Super stressful but if I get in it’ll be so worth it!!
I love how its always the Caucasian person who complains about the "white" vibe 😂
Yes he is a total European American sellout.
just ask them if they'd like to do an informational interview at starbucks

Certainly, being in educational community , I get a sense you are surrounded by educated and well cultured people. But, if u go to inner city neighborhoods , u can smell certain weed everywhere and anytime 😂

omg lee woo sing!!!!! such a great place, have so many memories hahahaaha
Would you have less of a chance of getting in you're not catholic?
I don’t think so, but am not certain
Shout out Baumer Hall for making the tier list photo
Currently deciding between ND and UMich for a one year masters 😪
Take some of my opinions with a grain of salt, as the masters vs undergrad experience can be very different at ND. But let me know if you have any questions
@@DrewBraaten yeah, most dorm-life things I’m not considering but I graduated early so I’ll also “blend-in” with the undergraduate crowd being younger!
your words make me cry soooo beautiful what you said !!! congratulations !!!!!
Thanks for watching!!
congratulations !! GREAT VIDEO!
hiii. i am going to the university of hong kong next year as a Turk. sooo excited
TURKIYE TURKIYE TURKIYE! 🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷 You will have an amazing time. Hong Kong is a special place!
I went to tremfya university
Solid takes. I think there is value to choosing a school where you can’t get that same experience anywhere else (ie undergrad focus, living in indiana if you are out of state, football, dorm system). I was in between Columbia and ND and chose ND because I felt like I could always go to NYC for grad school or a post-grad job but couldn’t get same ND experience later if I went to Columbia for undergrad….I feel like that this is something that is underrated abt ND too.
Also thanks for the outside nd plug :) Sb is def underrated!

RUSHES IS SUCH A GOOD SONG. LUV THE FRANK PLUG
I think that dorms, parietals, and relationships are all more negatives in my opinion as they really make gender relations worse on campus. I also think you could've added more thoughts on like political environment, and diversity (LGBT, first gen, low income, etc).
I see. That is 100% Fair. I think all three categories could have been a bit more negative, as my review is probably slightly over-positive. There does seem to be a wide range of opinions on dorms and relationships, though. If I did this again (or made a pt2) I would include the political environment. And I would have expanded more on diversity, as my discussion in this video is a little narrow. Thanks for your thoughts and ideas!
@@DrewBraaten how would you say the political environment is? I’m someone who doesn’t want politics shoved down my throat at college so I’m wondering how big of a role it plays. Adding on to this, how are ND students with people who disagree politically? Like are different ideas from both sides respected and are people willing to be friends with those who may disagree?
@@caileyc.5544 (To anyone other students seeing this comment, please respond as well, as I don't have the deepest insight) From my experience, I've never felt like politics has been shoved down my throat. The most would probably be a finance teacher making jokes about Biden or my design teacher hating on Trump. Overall, the political environment on campus is respectful. Notre Dame has more political diversity than other T-20 schools, considering the sizeable % of conservative and moderate students. There are large College Democrat and Republican clubs (not sure which one is larger). There is also a club called BridgeND which is built around decreasing political polarization. There was a student poll done during the 2020 election -- showing 62% of students voted for Biden, 31% voted for Trump, and 6% for others. I think Clinton vs. Trump was even closer than that. I don't have any data on this, but I would predict that Notre Dame has a higher % of politically apathetic students than a school like Brown or Yale.
football at B is crazy should have been at A.
Nah S games are so fun
Very well spoken good lad!
im an incoming freshman and this was so helpful! i love ur videoss
What do y'all think was my best and worst take in the video?
football is A tier
@isad1603 Bingo... my thought, exactly. I might even go to "S." Notre Dame football is legendary... Knute, Four Horsemen, Rudy, etc.
@@thescovillekidfor Notre dame history and reputation it is S, but for impact on student experience its between A and B, imo
@@DrewBraaten Gotcha. If I had the good fortune to go there, I believe football would have had a huge impact on me and my experience. Everyone is different, but I think your list is honest and very accurate for most... from what I have seen (1 student tour and 1 informal visit). Nice work and thanks for all the great content!
Drew favorite ND sporting event to go to besides football?
Great video, Federico is going places 👀
Boeing CEO Prospect 🤠
just got into notre dame so extremely excited
I got into Dartmouth after being deferred ED but also got into ND Regular idk what to do now, I love the community vibe of both schools but especially like the dorm system at ND. Religious/faith part at ND is pretty important to me too. Im visiting both to see how i feel but you got any tips?
Hello Max 1. You can't go wrong with either options. You will have great time at either. 2. I see Dartmouth as the most similar Ivy to Notre Dame. Both are known for for tight campus communities, elite alumni bases, strong pipelines into finance/consulting, and aren't known for their surrounding cities. Also, from what I've seen Notre Dame and Dartmouth are on a similar level for job placement (but varies by industry obv). 3. I've met a few people at ND who got into Dartmouth and chose ND. 4. Two of the biggest variables will be: your major and cost/financial aid packages 5. If you care about both watching sports and religion/faith, I'd almost certainly choose Notre Dame. 6. If you care about outdoor activities (skiing, hiking), greek life, and saying "you got to the Ivy League", I'd almost certainly choose Dartmouth (I'd caution against putting too much importance on last component) 7. If you have a positive perception of dorms and see your self as a "social" person, there is a very high chance you will have a great experience in dorms at Notre Dame. 8. Dartmouth is a better feeder school for Boston jobs. ND is a better feeder school for Chicago jobs.
@@DrewBraaten Thank you so much Drew! You def gave me a lot to think about. Financials is about the same at both and the community vibe you were describing is exactly why I applied and feel so lucky to have the change to attend either school. I hope major in somthing medically related and minor in education, and I could care less about the ivy leave title as both schools seem to have a great rep in these areas to me. I know I would thrive in ND’s dorms and am religious so I know I would absolutely love ND in that aspect. I’m open to frats at Dart but not a huge fan. I love to ski, hike, camp, and pretty much anything outdoors and a lot of people tell me I’m the ideal dartmouth student. I feel like my values align best with notre dame yet my personality is like dartmouth. As you can tell I’m pretty torn but I am visiting ND over April break for the accepted students (I will visit dartmouth too but I have a better idea of Dartmouth already) and will be in contact with studnets from both schools to get a better idea. Hopefully visiting will help me decide. Another aspect is a grad program at notre dame called the Catholic Alliance for Education (ACE) where you get a masters in education then work in under recourced places for two years to pay it off. Some of my teachers have talked to me about this and I really think it would be an amazing opportunity for me down the line that I hope to do. I worry if going to Dartmouth will reduce my chances of getting accepted to the program as opposed to going ND undergrad. I might reach out to the head of the department and ask about this too. Thanks again for all your help, I’ll keep you posted!
@federicocigolot7891 thank you so much! I know there are so many factors going into the decision I hope that visiting each school will help me get a better feel. It’s nuts I have a month to decide where I want to spend the next 4 years of my life lol. I will definitely talk to people at each too. I replied to Drews comment with more insight onto how I see each school if you have anything else to say on those topics and the specific grad program that I talked about, but I think pretty much see my values (catholic) aligned more with ND but my personality is like Dartmouth. I know there will be some Catholic student groups at Dartmouth but it just wouldn’t be the same as ND’s dorms, studnet life, and traditions all rooted in that fun stuff. Hopefully I’ll figure it out. Thanks again for your help!
Have you made a decision yet?
@@turbocharged213 not yet lmao. I think im leaning towards ND after visiting, it was an incredible experience and the campus was amazing, felt like home. I think academically both are amazing, but i do think personally Id be happier at ND just from the vibe. Im visiting Darmtouth again for their admitted days and I’ll have to make the final decision after that. Ill come back to update when i do decide. Are you in a similar situation?
