Making More Memories
The Charity, Tilbury Riverside Project has recently been awarded Heritage Lottery funding for a new project called Making More Memories. The aim of the project is to help evoke memories for people in the early stages of dementia.
We do this by creating a Memory Box that may help prompt a memory from past events of their life with items such as household objects and photos.
With this video we want to share some of the ideas and skills that we know to help you with someone that you care about, be it a relative, neighbour or friend in the early stages of dementia.
Please note, that the Tilbury Riverside Project are not experts in causes and symptoms of Dementia and how it is diagnosed and treated. If you require expert advice we have some contact information below.

Those maisonettes in Sydney Road look familiar. I lived there from 1968-72 in a maisonette run by the electricity board as dad worked at both Tilbury ‘A’ & ‘B’ Power Stations. The Stella Maris seamen’s mission was adjacent.

Used to sail out of Tilbury had some good runs ashore and a few tear ups with the locals(until they found out I was ⚒️) got on well from then on used to go out with the Skins. Harry Potters Tattoo studio and the seaman’s mission great times there sadly no British crewed ships sailing out of there any more

I remember Buddy Goyette his wife Ivey and there son Paul a couple of years older than me. A lovely family liked by everyone. Buddy was a man to aspire to be like as he was always working hard but had so much to show for his labours. His son Paul was also hard working and nearly made it into professional football.

Brilliant mate, I was a Tilbury boy lived there from 1960 to 1998 - Perth House, Kipling Avenue, South View Avenue, Adelaide Road and finally Wellington Rd featured in the footage here and this is how I remember Tilbury being. You've even got footage of the Railway cottages - Had a mate who used to live there called Tom Web - must have been about 1965-66 we used to go over the footbridge and have tea round his house.

This is a great collection of footage. Very well done. I was resident in Sydney Road, Tilbury from 1968-72 (at 2:05, the maisonettes at the far end past Perth House). Everything and everywhere looks so familiar. Civic Square, the Fire Station, Calcutta Road, Tilbury Riverside, the lot.

Oh yeah and a mate of mine lived in the Railway cottages mentioned right at the the start, I must have been about 5 years old and used to go over a footbridge just down the road from Tilbury hospital on St Andrews road and have tea at his house. They must have been knocked down in about 65/66? His name was Tom Webb.

Gutted you didn't have old pic's of Kipling Avenue! Live there from 65-70, then moved to South View Avenue 70-74, then Adelaide Rod 74-79 and then the masionettes in Wellington Rd, 79-87. Live in Perth house as well early 60's.

Whoa this is amazing! The old pictures, the stories from the elders and seeing Tilbury as it is now. I lived there from 1960-1987 and my Dads family lived in and around the area for years before. Annie Obrien - can I ask you questions - I've got so many to ask you?
