    I just discovered a neutral bootleg on my house. I was replacing my exterior light and exterior fan (separate units). After replacing one I noticed my exterior light flickering. I immediately sensed something was off. After uncovering the switch they hooked the ground to the white wires which was powering three separate lines…. Completely flabbergasted why they would do this. And sure enough the ground was creating a small spark when I touched those wires.

    flashing over brick products can be a hassle. If you have a 15 degree angle, it is good to bend your flashing at 13 degrees and let that 2 degree difference spring it into place. I usually wont work with pieces longer than 9'.

    Technically the NEC would call that 'bonding', or 'bonded', which should only be done at your first point of disconnect (from the utility). It is usually done in the main panel, although it can be a discrete disconnect. Bonding the neutral conductor after that point is not allowed. They could have simply added GFCI outlets, which will clear ground faults (trip) even without an EGC, because they are designed to sense ground faults through the neutral conductor. I do it all the time in older homes.

    There's nowhere else to put an auxiliary drain pan it's an upflow unit. Putting a pan where you are saying there should be one would block the air. Obviously there's an issue with the main drain. That lower space should never have water in it. It should be dry always but the fact it has standing water in it means it works as designed and they are avoiding water damage to the building.

    • @Prohitn
      @Prohitn ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right, It was weeks later that I realized what I saw. That it was an upflow with more than likely a cracked internal drip pan that was leaking into the plenum below. They should have replaced that pan instead of taking the time to rig up a condensate pump in the plenum. Thanks for the info and catch.
