First of all, a Galaxy DX 959 ISN'T a garbage CB radio at all because it is like the Galaxy DX-2547 base station because they use the same board with the same PLL chip in it. Second of all, your modification is ok but if you really want all of the channels,you get a Viagra board or a LesComm channel kit so you can get all of the channels you want. You also need a 10KC switch to get the skipped or hidden channels tpp and as long as your SWR's on a base or mobile antennna is below a 2, you should be able to talk to anyone

Jackson And 50 wats vs. 40 water is pretty negligible. 10 wats of power ain't life changing. Quality TX & RX start with a quality, well matched antenna and better than average coax.if you were to compare a 50 wat to an 80 wat rig properly, set up the performance difference isn't that noticeable locally.

Nice job there Nek! I am a firm believer that the best antenna is the one that you are able to set up and operate with. Even though your antenna setup is not optimal it did the job. Just goes to show you that it is possible to DX without having to have a fancy antenna farm. Loved listening to the other stations talking about their big antennas and power and you just said I have an antenna out my window. You could hear the wind going out of their sails on this side of the ocean! 🤣

I want to buy a radio like yours from amazon or ebay. Do you recommend one over the other? I want to DX only. Thank you so much

What are you using for a 40 meter antenna Nik?

Im sure you are aware by now but despite there being a usb c charging connector it doesn't support fast charge only 5v old style charger. Get an old samsung charger etc.

The radio is filtered for VHF and UHF so out of band transmit will be an issue. Its a crappy radio but cheap and cheerful and great for experimentation. Receive on 1296 mhz is poor but hears 220 mhz ok. I can hear CBers on channel 6 but nada on 19. It suffers huge intermod from the Fleetnet towers. Hey for the $10 special it's a fantastic radio.
