Great insights and observations. Appreciate the discourse. It seems to me that Vi and Cait both cannot really do the thing they say they can -- which is to kill Jinx. All of the factors you discuss regarding Cait are in play, but i think her simply not being willing, at the critical moment, to murder Jinx is part of it too. Perhaps that is a last resort she is still incapable of -- despite having called down multiple last resorts in Zaun already.

People in the comment section are also kinda missing the point of this scene. Caitlin didn’t miss. She hit her targets. It’s a parallel between the scene with Vi & Jayce, when he killed the kid in the shimmer factory & this. Vi didn’t care that he killed that kid, but is now caring that Caitlin will. The show is gray morality of all the characters.

Cait was by far one of my favourite characters in S1. By this point I fucking hated her completely

Very nice review. VI also protects Cait from the guilt she would feel if she missed Jinx and shot the kid. We remember what that felt like from Jayce and VI's Shimmer mission. VI is my favorite character, I also like her relationship with Cait, but I think she got beaten up too much by both Cait and Jinx. I feel like her character development was not reflected well enough. I'm happy for both of them to have a happy ending, but I wish I could have seen a different development of VI before the final act. In the end, in the last episode, there is not even a "moment" for her either. I'm waiting for your next video

Amazing analysis! Does it bother you personally that Cait never explicitly addressed this incident between her and Vi? The only hint at remorse/apology that I noticed is when she touches Vi's patch on her abdomen in episode 8, but it is such a fleeting second. Why is she more concerned about sleeping with someone else in Vi's absence rather than with hurting Vi and causing her absence?

I’m about to be a bit of a paragraph person, but I don’t care. I’m graduating with a degree in forensic science next week, so I’ve studied ballistics quite extensively. Could Cait have made the shot? Possibly. However, there are multiple risks to attempting the shot. Isha was still squirming and moving around which meant that when the bullet reached Jinx Isha could have been in a different position and get shot. Also, people fail to consider that bullets can exit. Given what I’ve seen with hextech weapons, bullets tend to exit. Since bullets can ricochet in a body cavity it can be hard to predict where the bullet will wind up exiting. This means that the bullet could have hit Isha after it exited Jinx’s body. This is true whether it ricocheted or not. All of this to say, no one in their right mind would have attempted that shot as the risk of hitting an innocent child is too high.

Caitlin shot the gun out of Ishas hand and shot Jinx middle finger. I doubt she'd miss. At this point Jinx is a known terrorist who killed Caits mom and a known drug henchmen. N*ggas have been executed for less. People simp for jinx so hard 🤷🏾‍♂️

I’m 100% on Caitlyn’s side at this part of Arcane. Literally could have just separated isha and jinx to make the shot. Jinx literally killed Caitlyn’s Mum right before this and Vi said she was ready to kill jinx then didn’t even try. My opinion has changed on if they should kill jinx now after season 2 but at the time of this scene in the story this is what I believed.

Thanks for this I was actually confused when Cait starts missing her shots I thought she's just giving warning shots and her shooting Jinx while Isha is on the way won't be problem for her if Vi didn't interfere but thanks to your analysation showing how unfocused Cait is during the fight made me realize so that's why all those missed shots because she's not in the condition to shoot and Vi knows it.

Great video. Act 1 had great setup for both of them, but act 2 and 3 are so rushed that it doesnt seem compelling or believeable. I`m sad that they didnt want to take their time to flesh out their characters and relationship, instead we got a brilliant full episode for Ekko and Powder, while Cait and Vi probably had about 5 minutes in act 2 and 3 as a whole for the relationship. Hope they are proud of their writing cuz they ruined this relationship for A LOT of people

I believe Caitlyn is hurt by Vi saying shes acting like jinx because jinx killed her mother and she already blames herself. At least thats why i think she outlashed and hit her. She feels betrayed by Vi but plans to just leave up until that moment. I also think She starts to rush to take the shot because she realized Vi no longer approves and needs to do this herself. I can see how Vi felt with the scenes that come after, especially, but idk what she wanted from stopping the irrationally cait in that last scene. They stop working as a team. They stop trusting each other.

I took Caitlyn's use of the Grey as a means to more surgically strike at her objectives, instead of a full scale invasion of Zaun. This way, Caitlyn was trying to minimize harm to both sides of the conflict. When Vi prevented Caitlyn from shooting Jinx, and ending the pursuit of Caitlyn's objectives, Ambessa saw her opportunity to exploit the situation (especially with Mel temporarily out of the picture), to her personal benefit. Caitlyn knew War hawks were circling in Piltover, and tentatively accepted the role of Commander (imagine Salo at the head of martial law). Make no mistake, Caitlyn was conflicted between her duty and her hate. I keep remembering Vi's words to Jayce about the boy he killed (S1E8); and, I thought that Caitlyn might have been aggrieved that Vi had just given an opening for the intercity conflict to continue, likely leading to many more casualties and suffering.

okay goddamn this is some top tier analysis. honestly this show - both seasons - can be studied near endlessly, like you could easily write a dissertation on arcane its so full of things like this. like you finding and highlighting these details between two characters (out of how many?) with a combined runtime of 2/3mins of their interactions? really eye opening stuff and good job conveying it clearly and concisely

WHY do you think, Caitlyn stopped Vi just before they were about to attack Jinx. What did Caitlyn want to say do you think? She doesn’t say anything.
