STUDIO UPDATE | the production shelf
This latest addition to the studio took the longest to get in the studio, but we finally got it done. We spent 3 days sanding, staining and oiling each piece of the IKEA IVAR shelf, before we put it together. I also switch the ceiling paper lamp, talk about books i have in the studio and do some plant care. Hope you enjoy!

Making Ceramic Dessert Bowls with Elevated Foot
มุมมอง 7K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
I share my process of making ceramic footed bowls on the pottery wheel, from throwing to trimming. They’ve been a favourite of mine to make lately, such an enjoyable making process that’s part throwing and part sculpting. I’ve named them Nymphae coupes (more on that in the video). This is a different type of video than what I’ve shared before, let me know what you think. I really enjoyed making...

Studio Tour - Where I do ceramics at home in Toronto
what stain did you use?
Here in Spain it’s called Nogalina (or nogaline in French), it’s essentially burnt walnut powder. And you simply mix it with water to the coloration you want. I’m not sure what it’s called in English
what is the name of those natural wooden shelfs with bottom cabinets called?
IVAR
@@issey-roquet thanks!!!
So excited to have found your account so so dreamy!
Very nice collection of books, thank you for sharing!
Looks so pretty 🙈 May i ask how big your Studio is? Im also a pottery artist and might have the Option to rent a Studio and im thinking about designing it similar to yours, because i really really Like the natural look of it :D thank you and Happy new year
It’s a little over 50 m2 :) although for one person I think you could do with a little less.
Happy and amazing New Year, Issey, which will surely be positively groundbreaking :) I've been following you since the beginning when you had a small corner at home under the stairs, and you've made great progress. You can be really proud of yourself, Issey :) I think these shelves look great, and the handmade ceramics add even more charm. :) I wish you success and hope you fully enjoy your new studio. When I travel to Valencia in the future, I would love to visit your studio. :)
Martina, thank you so much!! 💖 it really has been quite a journey since the small corner at home 😅 it’s so sweet to hear you’ve been a part of following along since then. Wishing you all the best for the new year :) you’re welcome to visit when you’re in the area :)
hi this looks great! where is your studio? its beautiful
Lovely video! Where did you get that worktable with the metal base???
From Leroy Merlin, it’s like a Home Depot. I’ll admit it’s not the most sturdy, it can wobble a bit if not secured at the bottom with very heavy stuff, but it can hold a ton of weight so it has its pros and cons
Did you buy the space or are you renting? I’m always thinking about investment into studio spaces a lot lately since I’m moving into my new studio I’m renting for 2 years minimum but can extend it another 2 years.
What we did in a year’s time sounds great!
Qué bueno que no sufrieron las terribles consecuencias de la DANA. Hermoso estudio.
You have brought so much love and life to this space!!!
❤️
Looks like such a cozy and inspiring place for your ceramic practice! I am a painter and would love to have a studio like this someday. Would love to hear about your journey with your practice in a video sometime.
I was in Madrid when the Valencia flood happened. What a scary time. Watching your video from Canada. Love the shelving. Stain colour choice is superb.
What a hardworking year it has been with all the challenges! Congratulations to both of you, it looks beautiful! And I love the outfit 🌺
Thank you so much! 🌺
I don’t understand why you left the stickers on the shelves
We tried removing as many as we could, but some just wouldn’t peel off in a clean way and left a messy blob of glue and paper. But we could’ve tried harder and taken longer to remove them, I don’t disagree, it’s definitely not ideal. Some did peel off better after the oiling process though, and I could patch them up. But definitely agree it was very frustrating to struggle to get them off with the way ikea had glued them on, and it's very noticeable on camera, more than in person.
Happy new year :). Your studio is taking on a personality quite nicely. Good luck to you in 2025. Also, thanks for the book tips. I found Nigel Woods book on Thriftbooks - my go-to for books old and new.
Ooh I’ll check out Thriftbooks next time! Thanks for the recommendation:)
Gracias x los subtitulos ❤
Hola feliz año soy tu fan 😍 muchas felicidades 🥳🥳🥳 te deseo lo mejor !
Hermosa ❤
Happy new year! I dont know anything about ceramics but I love hearing people talking about things they love, thats why I follow you (and of course the wonderful interior design taste!)
That's so lovely to hear, thank you!! ❤
I can’t express how much I loved this video, the book recs were so cool, matcha is so cuteee. You’re such an inspiration Issey, wishing you the best! 🌟
So much work, but a wonderful result. I just don't understand why you went to all that trouble but didn't remove the horrible Ikea stickers on the undersides of the shelves? They are now sealed in, and if they ever start coming off the wood underneath isn't stained or sealed. In the light of all the death and destruction you spoke about, I know this is nothing, but the camera angle for this video puts them front and central. Big lamp is brilliant, in all senses of the word. Happy new year and thank you for the lovely videos.
Yeah I definitely noticed it in the edit as it isn't as noticeable in person. We struggled to get them off, we peeled off as many as we could but some just tore and left a lot of glue and paper. Actually after the oiling process is when some came off more easily, so they aren't sealed in, and I was able to patch them up with a bit of stain and oil, which is something I can always go back in and do at any time. That's why I much prefer to use oil and a natural stain rather than a varnish. But I agree that it’s not ideal and annoying that it was such a struggle to get them off with the way ikea had glued them on. But thank you!
@@issey-roquet I am being picky and critical, I know - I think it is the contrast to the careful hard work and the beautiful sense of the hand at work apparent in the rest of the studio space. Eucalyptus oil or orange oil are both wonderful for removing stickers and glue residue, but would also remove your oiled finish. A hairdryer is also surprisingly useful to help remove them from wood that would burn if you used a heat gun. Ignore me and enjoy your handiwork, as the shelves really do add to the look and function of your work space.
@ thanks for the oils and hairdryer tricks! And I get what you mean, I was probably too excited to finally get this shelf up after waiting for so long and to just get to the staining stage and so might’ve rushed it 😊
The IKEA stickers are truly a vibe 💅🏽
loved the music choices in this one!! :-)
:)
Thank you, Issey, for your video! Very beautifully curated ❤

What an incredible and thoughtful guide! Thank you so much for sharing so many small artists/brands. So glad this popped up in my recommendations 🥰 Wonderful video:)
You are so welcome! Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Nicely done. A good introduction to essentials for setting up a studio. Nice Shimpo wheel 😃
Thank you! :)
love it veery inspiring!
Thank you so much for sharing this special little space. It's really good to remind myself that a dream home studio doesn't need a sprawling space. I am curious where you wedge though… On your knees over the plaster? And also, thanks for letting us see the brand of that bat man bat system! I'm using one by dirty girls and the inserts are half as thin and prone to warping. And also, thank you for giving us the names of all the IKEA pieces! I love when folks do that.
I’d wedge on my knees on slabs of wood, I’d hold them down with my knees to prevent them from sliding on the floor. Not ideal, but also not so bad on my back, since I’d use the weight of my upper body to help with pushing down while wedging :) Glad you enjoyed the tour and shared little tidbits!
A magazine subscription that I would highly recommend is the "In Her Studio" magazine. It is a magazine dedicated to female artists, their studios, their unique art, and their stories! I was gifted a 6 month subscription from my parents last year and I absolutely loved it. It has helped me find so many amazing small brands and artists!
Oooh I’m def gonna check it out!! Thank you
The idea of adding a mirror to reflect the light is so smart omg !!!
Thank you so much for this video (art) Issey! :) This video, particularly during this time of the year, gives me hope and reminds me that there are a lot of people out there trying to create and shop objects, which are (more) sustainably made. It's a long stretch to stay on this track with some deprivations in this fast-paced society, but we can do it and inspire others to change.
J'adore les portes en bois elles sont absolument magnifiques

Hey may I ask what camera you are using? I love the picture!

Issey, this video was beautiful! I love the way you talk about ceramics/art/artists. I’m sure it was a lot of work to edit together, but I would eat up more videos where you just chat about ceramics/art that you love.
Firstly, what a gorgeous background. And what a well thought through list. Loved that it was international. When will your pottery be available???
Working on it! 😏 I’ll make sure to update you guys here when I get close to a shop update 🫶🏼
So fun! How do I write the name of the french painting shop?
It’s Drouot, i linked it in the description too. I’ll keep in mind to write the names in the video next time 😅
