      @@jozefmucha4730 it works exactly the same as all the others, and the touch screen is really responsive, as for features and specs I don’t know if it does anything the other ones can’t. to me the only thing I need from a flash trigger is for it to do what it is supposed to do and get out of my way as much as possible, this one is the best in that regard. the XF line is made for the much smaller sensor of the X line, so it wont cover even full frame, GFX is larger then full frame. afaik there are no XF adapters out there to mount those lenses on other cameras/bodies/systems. lens coverage just is made for the smaller sensor and wont cover bigger ones.

    I purchased a GFX 100s at B&H in New York City on August 2021. I have installed recently the latest firmware version (2.12) and I encountered that the front wheel has stopped working. I use my camera always in mode "M", using both the front and back wheel to change aperture & shutter speed. I have noticed that the front wheel has stopped changing any value: "aperture", "s.s." and/or "ISO" (no matter each of which is selected on the menu). In addition, the aperture is not changed despite the GF lens is set the aperture ring to "C" and/or "A". The front wheel does not work no matter I select "M", "A" or any other shooting modes. Only the aperture is changed by the back wheel on "P" mode. Is there any chance to downgrade the firmware version to 2.11, so that to see if the front wheel comes back to work properly, or any other option available?. Any piece of advise would be much appreciated.

      hmmm...does not sound good, I am on 2.12 and havent noticed this, as far as rolling back, I am not sure either, havent had to do it so far (I used to save all firmware versions to have on hand since they remove them once the new ones come out) fuji phone support (they have a prompt just for GFX) is always available and usually very helpful. your case sounds like a software issue? Wonder how long an ext tube, or bellows ext, to push the laowa far enough to cover the sensor, then will it resolve the full sensor? Very surprised to hear the GFX designed macro is pants. Heard the Canon 100mm L was good but thenI saw some examples and too much vignetting. I saw some Canon 85 or 65mm macro on GFX and that was much better for the sensor fit.

    • @paulschefz
      @paulschefz 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      not sure, and yes the GF macro is a great portrait lens IMO but useless for macro. TTartisan just announced a 100mm 2.8 2x macro for GFX, available now for under 350$ which is pretty crazy, looking to get one and test it, might be the answer, no rings!

      @@paulschefz well that is timely news. currently not sure to go GFX100/A7RIV/A7RV and its only the lack of affordable true macro that's putting me off the GFX. Most things in greenhouse, tripod, manual focus, remote shutter release. Not sure about shutter vibration with non stabilised lenses tho. Sometimes the tripod is very extended and takes 10 seconds to stabilise after contact. I expect the bigger the camer a the more the shutter vibration.

    • @paulschefz
      @paulschefz 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@killpop8255 you are obviously correct, many factors to think about. I (dont think?) I have too many issues with shutter vibration. I do have this new lens on order, will definitely do a review when it gets here. 100mm, 2x macro, sounds like what I have been waiting for. the only thing that worries me is the (insanely?) low price? if they can pull this off it just makes everybody else stupid and greedy. we will see!

    • @killpop8255
      @killpop8255 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@paulschefz I have seen 'sample' pictures on their website. I think they are really pushing it to say it's suitable for GFX with the amount of vignetting for the really close-up work. The sample pics have no context but I'd not be surprised if those shown are the best you can get and other apertures will just get worse. Or maybe I'm temporarily downbeat because I expected full image circle coverage - but why not if they release in GFX?

    • @paulschefz
      @paulschefz 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@killpop8255 I think they use the same samples for all their lenses, this is the same lens as their T/S 100 macro for all other mounts without T/S (unfortunately) so it should cover GFX, its not that hard with a 100. I should have it in a few weeks and will get a review done asap.

    Interesting video. I have the TTartisan 90mm and a 18mm extension tube which I was hoping to use for close-up portraits. But the maximum focus distance is something like 40cm, so the lens is too close to the subject's face. What is the focus range on the 90mm with the 11mm extension tube? I can't find that information anywhere online

    • @paulschefz
      @paulschefz 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      in my experience the TT 90 gets just about the entire head plus maybe an inch on top and bottom (below chin) the 11mm makes the face format filling, working distance is ok, far enough for people not to feel like you will hit them in the nose and for the lens not to create problem with lights (shadows,...) about 50cm. its still close of course and depth of field is very shallow. I am surprised how well the lens performs stopped down, diffraction definitely starts to creep in but it's not bad. I guess all these lenses act differently with different tubes, I just find the gf glass more or less useless with any and all tubes (the shorter the tube, the more likely you might get a useable result but still) the obvious disappointment to me is the GF 120 macro which is a great portrait lens IMO (for those close up portraits you are looking for) but difficult of actual macro application: strong field curvature and completely useless with all (including fuji!) tubes.

    I really thought about this camera for a lot, but I decided to wait and just yesterday my GFX 100s ii arrived and personally I think it offers better value. I'm not a big fan of that EVF sticking out. I actually like the camera close to my face. I don't like something sticking out like that. It also makes it impractical putting it into my bag for landscape photography as well, while I think it's a really cool feature I don't think it was required. Plus, I'm not shooting video with a GFX. I have three other cameras that can shoot 4K 60 with no problem..... So I think it's not really a camera that I'm gonna use for video at all because the weight also. that said the 100 ii I think it would be an amazing camera. I'm loving my GFX journey. I also have the 50s ii two and if you just shoot stills and landscapes check that camera out people it's slow focusing not suitable for portraits but man pumps out some great images GFX has now joined the party, with full frame cameras and honestly they are better value in my opinion because of the image quality. I think now there's a third option which is the hundred 100S ii. so many great options

      the 100SII was not available when I got my 100II, I did not have the choice, it definitely is a great choice to have! I love the tilt finder, I agree with it being a pain when packing and storing the camera! I havent shot any video with the 100II yet. I have not needed that ultimate video quality, I also always use smaller cameras. with the latest canon/nikon/sony announcements it almost seems as if they are just handing Fuji that high end landscape/IQ with the GFX. I just saw that fuji released the SDK for GFX use on drones, this is big because phase still had that high end commercial/industrial covered. easy now to think of GFX for that use as well. great system getting better all the time!

I feel so sorry for them, now they are just gathering dust. Previously, I made such a reflector from a children's souvenir umbrella for $2, and lined the inside with white thick fabric. I can't tell since I don't have that lens. what is interesting to me and why I compared it to the AstrHori 75 f4 is that both lenses show similar issues/drawbacks/flaws wide open, which is obviously at different f stops (f1.25 vs f2.5, the "secret" wide open for the 75mm) Maybe the mikaton behaves in a similar way? Lots of character (flaws) wide open, solid once stopped down?

    In the late 70's I remember the fashion photographers Sarah Moon and Deborah Turbeville bringing in an "anti" element of softness, amplified grain and out of focus elements...all contrasting with the severity of Helmut Newton and Chris von Wangenheim's super sharp primary colors. AI's sameness, with everything turned up to 11, bores me. I like the idea of AI tools in the hands of artists, but hate it when it coughs up something just from a prompt.

      I do remember them as well, I think that was the only time I really shot 35mm because the 3200 film gave that amazing grain and soft look. My issue with AI is mostly with the companies blatantly ripping off decades of hard and brilliant work so some AD can now harvest with a prompt. Vignetting at infinity shows that it works at the limit of the possible image circle, designed for FF. If necessary, I would choose any old lens from a medium format film camera. As tech improves faster and faster the advancement in sensor tech seems to get smaller and more fine tuned and a lot of improvement goes to software and AI (around the actual sensor) which is all great but when it comes to IQ, I am just not really sure this latest GFX series will be unstated too soon.

      I use an older LG graphics monitor, it's ok, not the latest greatest but calibration is the key anyway. there are no 16bit monitors and sometimes I wonder if the much larger file size is worth it compared to 8bit TIFF but once you start tweaking color, you just have to stay in 16bit. as far as true 16 bit capture vs 14bit, (or compressed vs uncompressed raw) really digging into the shadows often shows the small difference.

    Great video! Right now I am looking for a lens for GFX 100II that has a minimum focus distance, closer to what the 35mm FF cameras have. Most of GF lenses have 68cm MFD while the GF 35-70 seems to only have around 35cm MFD. I might need to check out the GF 35-70. What is your opinion for AF speed and MFD? Cheers

    • @paulschefz
      @paulschefz 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      thx! MFD is a little tricky. First: I think the 35-70 has to have a place in any GFX kit, it's a no-brainer. great performance, fast AF, versatile range, small, light and dirt cheap. I have shot still life with it because I was able to get just a little closer with it (compared to most other lenses). I just got a shorter macro ring and will look into some tests in regard to MFD but I dont expect miracles from the 35-70 in that regard? but who knows it always surpasses expectations! I definitely have no issues when it comes to AF speed (or accuracy), it always delivers, the only GF lens that I always thought was a little slow (other then the 120 macro which has a really long focus range obviously) was the 32-64, but I also have to say I havent used it on the 100II. hope that helps!

      @@paulschefz That are some good insights! I mainly shoot fashion and portraits but sometimes I feel like I can't get close enough with the general GF lineup. MFD being 68cm is not that great. I can't wait to test it out.

    • @paulschefz
      @paulschefz 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@HealingMushroom I think the sharpest of the 3 mid range zooms is the 45-100, which even at f4 is just crazy but it is much much bigger and heavier and I always found myself wanting more space at the wide end, so I reluctantly sold it. I am editing a fashion shoot right now, shot on the AstrHori 40mm, and a new (for me) manual GF 90mm lens (which I will do a review of shortly) and the 35-70 and it is just such a joy to shoot with, wide, close, always hits focus, just great.

      @@paulschefz I just had it delivered yesterday and took it out for a spin. The focus actually is really nice on the gfx 100 II. Switching between close, wide, with the subject is definitely the biggest positive for this lens. At 70mm MFD, it is really soft in comparison to the 45-100 which is super sharp across all focal lengths. The 35-70 will be my new action lens whenever I need to jump around and have more flexibility. I don't mind the less sharp image, my photography doesn't need 100% sharpness. My other lenses will be used whenever in studio or in rather slow shoots.

      well it is an on camera flash which can obviously be used off camera as well, works perfectly with godox triggers, there is really not much difference in the way it looks compared to other flash, the big difference in light character and quality is in using different modifiers, which are not available to me yet. and even then I dont expect much since its a small pop up soft box and a very small reflector, I am right now mostly interested in the globe diffuser that goes on the small reflector, but again, it will look like most already on the market. the fold up reflector it came with is interesting but again, a small-is highly reflective (beauty?) dish, best thing about it is the compact size folded which opens to a decent size but still fits easily into most bags. hope that helps!
