I Wrapped My BMW E30 Orange and Here's What Happened
In this video, I wrapped my E30 orange. This was my first vinyl wrap install and to be honest, it might be my last. The final result is impressive. The BBS RM wheels and the orange are epic! Follow along as I wrap my E30 and at the end, you will see a quick montage. In the next video, I will do another E30 video showing the orange in the sunlight, etc. Enjoy!

Disaster! I Cannot Wrap My BMW E30
มุมมอง 2.4K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video, I think I nearly lost my mind as I thought painting my E30 before vinyl wrapping it was the way to go, wrong! While the RustOleum paint is great, it is not my preferred choice for a base. This meant I had to do even more prep. What is most difficult with this project is that I am not putting vinyl on a clear coat and prepped surface. This means that the surface has to be as close...
Fast Paint Removal Method for BMW E30

Paint prep sucks! I began this project thinking I could scuff the paint, wet sand, and apply vinyl. I have learned that I am clearly mistaken and that the amount work needed to correct failing paint is enormous. With the paint flaking and showing signs of deep rock chips, I felt it was best to move on to a different strategy, chemical stripping. I had some left over citristripper and a simple a...

That Sucked! BMW E30 Window Trim Removal

Guys! We're stripping down the car and preparing it for vinyl. What I struggled with most was removing the rear quarter window trim. I could not find any videos or photos that showed how to remove the trim. I had no idea that the trim simply, though, not easily, pulled out from the window and was one piece. In this video, I am able to remove that piece, but more importantly, I am able to remove...
Paint Prep: Why I Failed to Wrap My BMW E30

Did you use CHF or ATF? It looks like ATF…and I’m not sure that’s the right spec for your e46 M3. Also, you can flush more fluid out from below by turning the engine on (while front is on jacks stands, not ramps) and turn the steering wheel. This should cycle out all the excess fluid without putting the rack under stress. GL! 🙏👊🏻

The car looks absolutely epic and breaks necks wherever we go. I would consider wrapping the m3 or a newer car. There’s just no easy way to hide lines on an e30. The M3 is next on the project list. Projects in order include: vanos (asap), rear subframe reinforcement (very soon) and convert the SMG to a 6 speed. I’m planning to have the wheels refinished, perhaps by the end of year 🤞. It’s definitely my favorite car. Also, I so desperately want a karbonius csl airbox 🤤🤤

You are a lifesaver! I am in the process of reupholstering the seats and upon reassembling the seat, I couldn’t understand why one of my wires (the one closest to the door) didn’t quite reach the hinge! Then when I looked at your lever (internal view) I noticed that I had threaded the steel part through the wrong hole! Mystery solved!!!! Also, it’s much easier to detach those wires when the car seat has had its covers removed (as in my case) and you don’t have to bend them! Very nicely done, only thing I’d do differently next time is: - add the anti friction treatment half way through the oil change - pour oil into the anti friction can and shake really hard to mix the rest of the mos2 - pour the can mixture and the rest of the new oil in The additive contains about 3-4% MoS2 which is quite thick and sticks at the bottom of the can so you wanna get all of it out through this additional step.

This is a bizarre video. There’s a reason why BMW M cars with the 6-speed manual have a resale value that’s more than double what the exact same BMW M model with the SMG transmission sells for. Next what are you going to tell me? That the early 5th generation Maserati Quattroporte transmissions were and remain as the closest thing to heaven? Thankfully, it was much improved during the mid-cycle refresh of the 5th generation Quattroporte, which is why the later 5th gen models command a much higher price tag on the used car market. The cost for required maintenance on the transmission alone on the early 5th gen Quattroportes is absurd. I recall it being a 5-figure maintenance bill every 12,000 miles…. What was going on with all the manufacturers and the automated manual transmission genre in the 2000s? Ferrari 360 is guilty as are many more manufacturers. They seemed to be an overwhelmingly negative experience and required FAR more maintenance and FAR more cold cash for that maintenance than the exact same model except with the traditional 6-speed manual.

    • @thedriversapex
      @thedriversapex 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hey, thanks for watching. I wanted to respond given that you put in considerable time crafting this reply. Yes, 6 speeds have a higher value, simple economics, but humans are impacted by the idea of jumping on the bandwagon. This was seen years ago when shifting from manual transmission cars to F1 gearboxes. Consumers wanted to be like their favorite F1 drivers or wanted to feel that their car was like a race car with a fancy gearbox. Also, as you mention, this was a cash cow for manufacturers and they knew consumers would spend the extra money. Fast forward and that technology is antiquated though at the time was integral to the advancement of gearboxes. Sadly, these early transmissions required more maintenance and as you mention, the costs are absurd. Ironically, the SMG was the best of the sequential manuals. A CSL tune dramatically improves the driving experience, but it will never be a DCT/PDK. When I bought my M3, prices were naturally more for a manual, but the delta was not as big as what we see today. I purchased the car with 50k miles and the car was well cared for. I knew that I would manual swap the car eventually, and as a tuner, rather than a collector, I wanted a good base. What's nice about SMG cars is that the synchros will be perfect, the cars, typically, not driven in the same way as manuals (clutch kicking/drifting/burnouts, etc.). If you are a tuner and have the mechanical skill to perform a swap, it is a simple no brainer to buy an SMG car. I really appreciate your comments. This is one of the reasons why I have my channel, to create community, to debate, and to learn. This thread would be a fantastic podcast episode. Thanks again! - Tom P.S. I still think my smg equipped M3 with a CSL tune is hilarious. The car shifts very quick and I like the kick in the back of the seat (like an e gear lambo or sort of like an aventador.

Hey! Thanks for your patience. It was probably the clear along with the material that gave it a different shade. I will say that I am noticing that the clear is delaminating and will need to be fixed. The issue is that the handle is used to often. I think I will transition, perhaps, to an alcantara set up. Here is a link to an ebay listing. I think this would look really good. www.ebay.com/itm/386130057537?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28

Hey! Thanks for watching. These are six ton jacks, which I prefer because I can get the car 20-21” off the ground. Thanks!

I use the LiquiMoly Engine Flush in my diesel Jeep every two oil changes. I go for a good long drive, get the oil nice and hot, add the LM flush , idle for 20 minutes, drain the engine oil. Fill with cheap 0W30 oil, drive around the block a few times, drain the cheap oil, and fill with Redline or LiquiMoly full synthetic oil , and a new filter I add LM CeraTec every 5th oil change as well . (I do around 12 oil changes a year, as I drive a LOT of KM’s daily, Hwy, forest service roads, city, off road in temp extremes. Solid products!

haha! Right. I will most likely do this again because I was not happy with the job that I did on the dashboard. I think I would rather have put a dashcap on the cracked dash. Thanks for watching!
