A Walk Through Hastings, East Sussex GB - New & Old Town
Hastings is a seaside town and borough located in East Sussex, on the south coast of England. Here are some key facts about Hastings:
It is situated 24 miles (39 km) east of Lewes and 53 miles (85 km) southeast of London.
Hastings is one of the medieval Cinque Ports and has a long maritime history, though its fishing industry has declined in modern times. It still has Europe's largest beach-launched fishing fleet.
The town is famous for the Battle of Hastings in 1066, which took place 8 miles (13 km) to the northwest at Senlac Hill, though the battle itself did not occur within the town's boundaries. The remains of William the Conqueror's first English castle built after the battle can still be seen in Hastings.
In the 19th century, Hastings became a popular seaside resort after the arrival of the railway. Its beach backs right onto the seafront.
Notable attractions include the East Hill Lift funicular railway, Hastings Country Park, the Old Town with its narrow streets and antique shops, the Shipwreck Museum, and Blue Reef Aquarium.
Hastings had a population of around 92,855 as of 2018 estimates. It is governed as a non-metropolitan district, with a borough council and county council providing local services

i lived in Ealing in it`s hay day. We had Bentals, m & s, bhs, Bejams which became iceland, and a variety of little shops, also you weren`t qallowed to jay walk and would be fined for littering. on a Saturday you couldn`t walk on the pavement because Ealing was the place to shop. You couldn`t pay me to live there now. from a sad ex Ealing resident.

I shall be very happy to see Slough changing. If you visited this little town between 1980 and 2020, you will notice not much had changed and the life looked as sleepy and drudgery as before. Good Luck Slough. Thanks.

The Treaty Centre is built on top of land that included the old Treaty Road, which no longer exists. I remember the beautiful old Treaty Road public library, which was in late Victorian / Edwardian Neogothic style. I think the old town hall was there as well, of similar style. All gone now, and replaced by the soulless monstrosity of the Treaty Centre, which occupies what were several blocks of old buildings.

Good video. Unfortunately, my experience in dymchurch did not go as well as expected. There were lots of travellers in which some said racist slurs to my mum and grandparents (and made monkey noises), drug dealers and overall the residents were not so welcoming. They were also unfriendly and scummy. Also there was a p0rn sign in the rides area. I didn’t feel safe there. Sad to say it’s on my ‘scummy seaside towns’ list.

In regard to your question around 6 minutes, as to whether you could once drive through there, the answer is no, at least, not in the 1960s you couldn't. It was built with the mall on one side and a big open area that I remember. Fromn the way you were walking down the mall to start with, the market I mentioned would have been over to the left. You went down to the end of the mall, turned left and walked a way down there to the market. It seemed a long way but I was only a little kid, so it may not have been that far.

I didn't recognise much except the bridge right near the station, until it got to 4:02. I recognise those cement flag stones. They were used in the shopping area of Bracknell. One of the first indoor "malls" was built there. The same coloured pavers can be seen in the shopping centre in Easthampstead. I suppose being a kid, I spent quite a bit of time looking at them and not the shops when we went to Bracknell. There used to be a big open air carpark, which became a market on Saturdays. Occasionally we walked into Bracknell from Easthampstead as we lived close to the Bagshot Road. There used to be an old shop, a general store, along there called The Orchard Stores. It must have also been a delicatessen because I can remember the rich delli smell of the place. I loved it because sometimes Mum would buy us some smarties or a kit kat. Unfortunately, Mum passed away around the time this video was made. I'd have liked to have shown it to her. We left the UK in 1974, and Mum never went back.

The new town building started in the late 1950s and into the early 60s, but it looks like it has continued since then. I was born in one of the estates on the edge of Bracknell (Easthampstead) and we lived there until I was 8, in the 1960s

Now the real question is, why didn't YOU give way to the pedestrian. moving into the bus stop to get around him. You are just as much in the wrong here. Stop giving us riders a bad name.

Wish you had walked just a bit further so I could see the house I was brought up in, 60 years ago. You showed the entrance to what I thought used to be called Jubilee Gardens (the big field). After this, walking south you would pass two side streets and then a pub and shops. There used to be all the old type of shops, haberdashery, chemist, wet fish shop, fish and chip shop, butchers, greengrocer (Jack's), newsagent. Everything my mother needed on her daily shopping trip from number 293 where we lived.
