The Grosse Pointe Historical Society was organized in 1945 to promote the preservation of our local heritage and to share that knowledge with the community. The Society's logo represents the 18th century French windmill which stood on Windmill Pointe.
The Society works to make the history of our exceptional community vital, relevant, and accessible. Through our programs, facilities, and events, we bring history to life and protect historic artifacts so that we all can experience the past first hand.

“Lost Legends of the Lakes” by Robert McGreevy (Bicknell Lecture Series: 2024-2025)
This program will provide an overview of Great Lakes shipping history, told through the eyes of artist Robert McGreevy. From the first steam ship on the lakes, the Walk in the Water, to the SS Edmond Fitzgerald, the presentation will be illustrated with Mr. McGreevy's paintings.

About the Bicknell Lecture Series:
In 1987, Dr. Frank Bicknell, a long time Grosse Pointe resident and well-known Detroit Medical Center urologist, celebrated his 80th birthday. His daughter and son-in-law established the Grosse Pointe Historical Society's Bicknell Fund to mark his milestone birthday. This fund established the Dr. Frank Bicknell Lecture Series; all Bicknell Lectures are free of charge and open to everyone.
