Quick & Easy DVD Stand (Bonus slo-mo kickback included)
I decided to take my dvd's out of the attic and use them since I don't have cable any more. I made a dumb mistake cutting the 1/4" masonite back and it came back hard and fast hitting me in my right arm. Not much damage except my pride. Boy, do I feel stupid.

    Young man, you did a great job of fabricating and designing your saw stand. Keep up with the welding and maybe a short class will do wonders. I taught welding and metals in a Technical College, it will spark more interest on your part.

    6 years late but great video! I am currently planning of making cuttingboards out of sapele as Christmas gifts. How "easily cut" is the wood? How did they stand the test of time since it's been 6 years? Any cupping? How easily does it react with iron to leave marks? The wood is beautiful but I wonder if it's a good choice for a cuttingboard?

    • @tomsdreamshopworx
      @tomsdreamshopworx 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad you liked the video. My brother keeps the cutting board on his kitchen counter and uses it every day and it still looks and works perfectly. Sapele is a very dense wood that I had no problems working with. it’s been a while since I’ve used it, but I don’t recall any problems with burning the wood from the sawblades.

    Given that the entire finished product is pure Sapele, I am wondering why you cut them into 2x2 chunks and reglue them together?

    • @tomsdreamshopworx
      @tomsdreamshopworx 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The size of a cutting board was wider than the wood boards that I started with. Also, big wide boards are not as stable to temperature and humidity changes. By cutting it into strips. I get a more stable cuttingboard and to the size that I wanted.

    • @tomsdreamshopworx
      @tomsdreamshopworx 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are several reasons one reason is dimension you wouldn’t be able to find a board wide enough and if you did, it wouldn’t be very stable because of the grain structure.

    Good way to start the hole is to make a similar hole in a block of wood, to use as a guide so that your diamond bit doesn't skate everywhere. Press the wood over the glass and lightly apply pressure to the wet glass.

    Thank you for sharing! Did you cut the bottom the same size as the sides, or a bit smaller? What about the top size? I am doing a 4" bevelled square, but unsure of what dimensions to cut the bottom and the top.

    • @tomsdreamshopworx
      @tomsdreamshopworx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right, I cut it a bit smaller, so there is a place for the solder to sit.Just a bit over the inside dimension of the box. I had the box upside-down and I used a block of wood the same height as the box to place the bottom on place while I soldered it in. I hope that makes sense. Good luck.

    Why cut the plank to pieces and then glue it back together again? What am i missing? Asking out of ignorance :)

    • @tomsdreamshopworx
      @tomsdreamshopworx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Several reasons. Size. Most wood boards are not big, so you glue to get the to get the size you want. Stability, One big board is less stable and more prone to twisting or cupping. Smaller pieces move less and though can change the grain direction to make it more stable. Hope that helps.
