I wore out one of the original, yea, i'm old :).
The tape mechanism might be the same as the realistic TR-801. On the backside of the motor between the motor and the back wood panel is a u shaped bracket with a circuit board behind the bracket, small board like an inch by inch. You have to remove the u shaped bracket and There’s a speed adjust pot on the circuit board.
@@ronwilgenbusch1961 idk because the TR-801 has the plastic head bracket and this does not.
@ the TR-802 has the plastic bracket, I have one that I fixed. I believe the 801 was still the metal bracket.
@ I had an 802 years ago but I’m not sure about the 801, but that’s interesting
@ thats a nice unit, hope you can get it figured out. Btw, on the plastic bracket for the Craig. On my tr-802 I used an xacto knife to put small vertical slots(just enough to let wire sit down into, not to deep) on all 4 corners of the head bracket, then wrapped thin wire around the screw on top, and then down and around the bracket back to the screw on the top. Used superglue on the wire at the corners to keep it in place in the cut slots.
@ interesting. I tried using a wire on mine but it’s still unstable
Many times the tuning issues with that vibrola is at the nut. Filing a slight angle at the back of the nut toward each stings tuner post helps quite a bit. Especially the D and G strings because they break at a more extreme angle behind the nut then the other strings. They don't return to pitch if they are binding. Keeping the nut slots lubed at each string change works well, too.
You did a very professional job on this replacement. And saved yourself a good sum of money. I am the same I have always done my own repair work on my vehicles. Also I do vintage tube powered electronics. A lot of phonograph repairs.. Thanks for the interesting content. This a a Five Star 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Channel for sure. ❤👍
I had 91 4x4 5sp I loved that truck, Unfortunately, Vermont winters and salty roads took her from me. Another great video ! You are always awesome to watch. Super talented, always interesting content. Thanks again. Definitely a 5 Star 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Channel 👍❤️
That is awesome brother!
Hey! Did you finish the ibanez as63? :D
@@JoomRO I made a mess of it and sold it. Kinda want another one or some other semi hollow someday. Can’t afford anything now. My house is in horrible shape and I’m barely surviving.
Great sound…..Chibson?
Yes
Fyi they sell the handle
I absolutely love vintage Maggie's. I have a Astro Sonic Console. And a portable stereo with one speaker that is a cover to the front of the unit. You did great work at repairs. 👍. Oh I love your voice❤. And the videos.
Wow ! That was so soothingly beautiful. You are one interesting, talented person. Love your videos, fantastic content. Thanks, ❤👍
Just saw your comment. Sorry for the late reply, but many thanks. It means a lot.
@@The8TrackChap You are so very welcome. All your videos are great . You have many talents. I enjoy watching you. Thanks for the fantastic content. Have a wonderfully happy Holidays.❤️
Thanks for the video helped alot!
@@dehydratedwater9734 thanks for watching and commenting
Is this like a project car or something?
@@vtjmproductionsusa2390 it was until it got scrapped
the output transistors can be replaced with rca sk 3082 or sylvania ecg 121
i have an amplifier just like that one but never could get it to work right
I can’t find a working one to buy. I would really like to add one to my collection of decks. The blue color is sharp.
Ugg! White lithium grease dries out and turns to soap. NEVER use it on a record changer. Synthetic Super Lube or even red synthetic grease sparingly.
Dude, get a tripod.
I know.
I Love This color !!
My Chibson almost feels better to play
Very good video well explained. Thanks. You did a great job! Keep up the good work.👍
I would check the tube heater circuit voltage.. tubes look a little to bright. Other than that great video, very nice unit 👍
those speakers look better than the ones in a Magnavox console i once had
Damn that really bad!
Good finds
Thanks for commenting. Hope you enjoyed the video.
That "orange goop" is a form of locktite car manufacturers use, its there so the bolt doesn't become loose over time, its mainly used during assembly at the factory, its good stuff.
Is there a video that shows how to remove the assembly without tearing shit up? This was useless. Thanks anyway.😕
Nice, I just ordered one, does it stay in tune after using Vibrola?
Not always. I swapped the stock bridge for one with roller saddles.
Thanks, yes my music store said get roller saddles, did it help a lot?@@The8TrackChap
Thanks, did they help?@@The8TrackChap
I'm it's too late now but if you have trouble fixing one like that don't hesitate to ask

really cool build. i like your taste in guitars
Thanks, man.
Hey man it’s a very nice sounding and looking guitar! I have exact same color, you should check out the ‘mint green’ pickguard, I’ve changed mine and felt better with it. Also, nice playing! But take care dude, with that playing position you can hurt your back very badly. Cheers!
Thanks for the compliments. Yes, I should mention more mindful of posture lol.
looks and sounds sick
Thanks, man, and thank you for subscribing. It means a lot.
GIveing👀👀👀👀
?
Those are made for a 2 point trem, you should use it.
I feel like I was able to make it work, though. I don't tend to use the trem anyhow, just have it fully decked with 5 springs in the back and the claw fully tightened all the way forward.
The GXR-82 is the only 8 track deck that I would consider hifi. Its an amazing deck! Nice find!
Thanks 😊 Gotta make the same repair myself.
I got a 95 with a 300 in it and the PO bypassed the smog pump and put a micro v belt on ir but i was told i had use a diff water pump rockauto shows accesory pump or serpentine one
Thank you for posting this video
I can get this exact model for $50. Should I jump on it?
Yes. I’ve never gotten these that cheap.
i just put a Magnavox changer from 1958 back together. i have a feeling it will work
1965 MODEL
I just posted 3 videos on my channel on how to repair the cracked plastic head frames on the later 8 track models like you had for the Craig unit, in case you encounter the same situation on another player. The video is actually done on this same Craig player. I've been meaning to make a video on this particular repair.
Great playing and tones! Mine is coming in the mail tomorrow
Nice. Enjoy it.
Did it arrive?
did you get the left speaker to work?
Yes. Wire was disconnected.
@@The8TrackChap Great, that has happened to me countless times
the motor might just need a few drops of oil
This reminds me of a THAT 70s SHOW episode. Eric practically pleaded for just one birthday present. (An audio cassette player for his car.) Of course that's reasonable. It's his birthday. And of course Red got him and 8 TRACK tape player. Poor Eric.
Good videos on 8 track tapes and players. I've been into 8 tracks tapes and players since 1990 and have some videos on my channel on opening and fixing tapes and some pointers on player maintenance. I like the portable book box 8 track players. Thanks again.
I like your player pianos too.
Thanks, that goes back many years ago. I restored most of the player: replaced all the valves, rubber hoses, and the larger bellows cloth, some individual key bellows
Good recordings. I started collecting in 1990 at our local flea market and people used to think it was weird that I was buying 8 tracks. But for less than a dollar each and many of them 0.50, I figured what the heck. I was able to pick up some players/recorders too for about 5 bucks. Yup, those were the days before they started to become popular again.
With die-cast metal, sometimes you get a bad alloy mix or uneven cooling down period during the casting process that leads to cracking later on. Subjecting the metal to extreme temperature changes can also cause this. I got a Lafayette 8 track player made of die cast metal and all the metal was cracked.Went right into the garbage can.
