I keep trying to get to her telling me what to do but I have so much stress lately and so much new trauma from being in a coma in February. Instead she told me to read a book about PTSD. I know about it. I did 2 years of therapy for it when I was seriously ill at 23-24. But here I am at 43yo and getting wrecked and emotional and hurting my family with my wild mood swings, trying to control myself all over again.

Yeah putting the book down when they wanted more than just the usual run of the mill textbook shit is pretty typical of "qualified" counselors. I even wondered what qualifications that actually is since they all seemed to stumble and fail at this exact hurdle, when I did the course, I saw why. Try using your brain for once. As much as your taught not to.

Hi, great video! What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy as BACP obviously stands for British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy so I am a bit confused. Also, would the Level 5 course in Psychotherapeutic Counselling mean that you can call yourself a psychotherapist. I was wondering if you could offer some insight into the terminology differences. I also understand you can specialise in a specific therapeutic modality through a UKCP college, typically a Master's level to become a psychotherapist but I have applied for the Level 2 counselling route at Astranti and am wondering whether and how the paths from the levels that you offer can lead me to become a psychotherapist (although I find differentiating the terminology tricky). Thank you so much and apologies for the long comment. Bub

Hi there! Great question! So, amongst counselling professionals, counselling, therapy and psychotherapy are collectively described as: ‘A specialised way of listening, responding and building relationships, based on therapeutic theory and expertise that is used to help clients or patients enhance their wellbeing.’ ~ The SCoPEd framework However, it is generally mooted that there are some subtle differences between the terms: Counsellors typically work with their clients on a short or medium-term basis (i.e. weeks or months) to help them overcome a specific issue, such as the death of a loved one. Psychotherapists tend to dig deeper than a counsellor and will try to diagnose and deal with the root cause of long-standing issues within the client. As such, they generally have more qualifications than counsellors.

@@jogonyachickennugget4911 I’ve not worked for nhs but I’ve known counsellors who have. It’s better in my opinion to work with other counsellors as a team … as there is more protection. NHS workers had more job security and maybe slightly higher wage. But working alone is really quite difficult … especially working with personality disorders. The last place I worked we would work closely together when supporting personality disorders. Otherwise you can become as toxic as the clients behaviour - like a narcissist parent enabling their sick child for a quiet life. I see alot of counsellors doing on line counselling - I feel for them. When you find your niche I would work within as transparent team. As you progress you can take higher courses - like supervision courses this will take your pay higher once you gained experience. The more specialised you become the pay will go up - good luck 🙂🙏

Their is a disconnect from the BACP in courses. The BACP don’t provide direct courses. They use course providers working to CPCAB who are responsible for laying out a frame work of courses without running them and using external verification to check course providers. Their is no standardised way to grade criterion other than the providers interpretation or expectation, which can be a disadvantage and advantage in some cases. The lack of set standardisation of grading at criteria level leaves students requiring the full knowledge expectations of providers to give full and timely expectations to obtain required criteria. This can led to students been open to biases at provider level of tutoring and grading at criterion level not receiving provider expectations at times, plus some providers not making reasonable adjustments for some students who come from other providers for different reasons, whether disabled or new students at the new provider.

Yes, you can start your training at 18 but you would need to factor in your level 4 course would most likely be 1 day a week for 2 years. So you would need to make sure you dedicate sufficient time to both your university degree and counselling training, which could be a challenge for some.

At Astranti Connect, we typically don’t allow our students to skip levels 2 and 3 as we firmly believe that these offer the essential foundations of what will become your counselling practice. Where students haven’t previously completed our course levels, we only permit students to skip in the following situations: 1. You have completed the previous CPCAB Level courses with another training provider. Or 2. You have completed an equivalent qualification that meets the following requirements: (a) Has the minimum number of guided learning hours (b) Was taught either in a classroom or live online (not study-on-demand without tutors or peers) (c) Included live skills sessions with peers to practice.

You need at least 450 hours of training (counselling practice) to become a member of the BACP, so unless you have the right experience in India and evidence, you won't be accepted. You may, however, be able to start at level 3 instead of level 2 CPCAB training if you have already done some counselling training prior.
