I totally disagree with the "so many people can blow him out the water " comment, including Steve Ray Vaughn. From performing to writing to playing to pushing the instrument to its limit. He was the complete package. Even dress. As far as influence and innovation, only Eddie comes close. Prince the Funkadelics, his legacy goes on. No shade intended but you must not play guitar.

Something someone pointed out is that The Band of Gypsies was in a lot of ways the polar opposite of The Experience. Mitch Mitchell filled all over the place and had mini-drum solos throughout every song. By contrast, Buddy Miles is deep, deep, deep in the pocket. And it changed how Hendrix played here: Machine Gun is so much more rhythmically driven than the songs he did with the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Everything is in rhythm down to the smallest subdivision. You (or at least I) have to listen for it though.

You should really check Catriel and Paco Amoroso's tiny desk. IT came out right before this one, they are much smaller artists than Dua Lipa and the musical level of that tiny desk is bonkers... the guys are straight up funk-fusion jazz musicians.
