Soul Farm Retreats
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 18 มี.ค. 2020
Soul Farm is a wonderful rural retreat in northwest Illinois. It's where we do yoga, connect with horses, and use local food and the power of Nature to feed our souls. This channel is my way of bringing the magic of Soul Farm to you, when you can't join us on the farm.
Yoga for the Eclipse
While a solar eclipse may bring a fresh start and new beginnings, it can also bring scattered minds and energy imbalances, as the typical solar energy is disrupted. This practice shares poses that help create energetic balance. I can be your go-to practice whenever you feel off-kilter, whether it is during n eclipse, or not!

It's designed to be fun and challenging! #vinyasaflowyoga #yogatransitions #farmyoga #outdooryoga #autum...

The yoga practice begins 3 minutes into the video. If you feel like you are managing too many opportunities, too many desires or ambitions that are creating havoc with your time, this yoga practice can help. This practice brings energy and awareness to the 6th and 7th chakras, intuition, wisdom and clarity, in order to help us prune and manage abundant opportunities that can overwhelm our time....
Heart Chakra Flow
มุมมอง 142ปีที่แล้ว
The heart chakra is about connections, and universal love. Physically, it is related to the chest, upper back, shoulders, as well as the heart and lungs. This practice opens the chest and shoulders, and strengthens the upper back. It is a good practice whenever you feel disconnected, shy, isolated, or overly attached. It will also help if you suffer from upper back pain and weakness, tight shou...

Calming Chaotic Energy with Yoga
มุมมอง 107ปีที่แล้ว
This grounding, nurturing and tension-releasing practice was inspired by a week of chaotic full-moon energy, but it can be done anytime you feel scattered, out of sorts, and disconnected. Even though it is a simple, all-levels practice, there are some movements that require body awareness, so proceed mindfully and stop and modify safely if necessary. #yogaforcalming #fullmoonyoga #yogaforstress...
Full Moon Practice
มุมมอง 129ปีที่แล้ว
This video begins with my philosophy in structuring this practice, and the actual practice begins at 3:34. The Full Moon is about illumination and expansion. It's a time to review and assess. This practice will look at certain areas of a yoga practice where we are often "in the dark", not using proper alignment to best achieve our goals. Then, we can take that focus and clarity of mind and appl...
Nature's Principle of Efficiency in Yoga
มุมมอง 105ปีที่แล้ว
Nature has a law...to use the least amount of effort to do its work. How much extra effort do we expend in our practice? Extra movements, fidgeting, playing with positioning...eliminating the fluff can quiet our minds and conserve energy. In this practice, we will explore using our own body proportions to determine hand and foot placement with efficiency. This is a perfect practice for both tho...
Summer Solstice Vinyasa Flow Practice
มุมมอง 314ปีที่แล้ว
While this vinyasa flow would be appropriate whenever you'd like to build powerful solar energy (think strength, confidence, motivation and self-esteem), I created it as a special practice for this 2023 Summer Solstice, Wednesday, June 21 at 9:58am midwest time. There is a short philosophy chat that ends around 6:45. The music used is "Hidden Track" by Staffan Carlen, downloaded from epidemicso...
Bonding with a Lonely Horse
มุมมอง 4172 ปีที่แล้ว
It was a long, lonely first winter for Boogey at Soul Farm without his friends. But, the time apart from them gave him and I a chance to bond. This channel aims to bring the Soul Farm retreat experience to you, with yoga, food and health ideas, little soulful stories. Thank you for watching. I appreciate any genero...
Making a Drum From Fresh Deer Hide
มุมมอง 2.9K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I had wanted to build my own ceremonial drum for quite some time, but I was extra fortunate to be able to build one from a deer hide harvested from the Soul Farm woods. The whole experience, from helping the hunter with the in-field processing, to processing the raw hide, to building the drum, was equal parts bittersweet, exciting, and exhausting. Be forewarned, if you get squeamish watching ic...
Epic Goat Fails
มุมมอง 3523 ปีที่แล้ว
Horses do best with a little company, and our winter equine resident, Boogey, needs some companionship. Goats can be really good companions for horses, so I thought I'd give a goat a try. Or two goats. It really didn't go as planned, as I share in this video. Soul Farm Retreats is a farm in rural Illinois where strong women come together. This channel aims to bring the Soul Farm retreat experie...
Getting Ready for My First Hard Winter
มุมมอง 923 ปีที่แล้ว
While this farm has been in my family for over 50 years, nobody has ever, ever spent a full year here. Set far off the main roads, I'm getting ready for cold, snow and power outages! In this video, I'm keeping my Soul Farm friends up to date on what happens here in our little slice of paradise during the off season.

Creating Yummy Shrubs, or Drinking Vinegars
Very interesting!!! I was recently gifted a fresh hide. We have cleaned the membrane, and stretched and salted it. Thank you for the informative video. I think now I will soak it and do the hair removal before it dries any further. Happy drumming and riding!
How did it turn out? I hope well...it's a lot of work.
Thanks for all this. It's interesting how this came up. I'm doing the same thing. I've seen many people using dried raw hide. This is the first with fresh. I put my hide in lime 2 nights ago. I knew it was going to be gross and time consuming. I wanted it to be mostly done by myself. I will buy the frame. That's too much of a challenge to make well.
I agree about the frame. How did it go?
@soulfarmretreats5191 it turned out great thanks
How is boogey now❤?
Well, Boogey ended up passing the winter before last. I miss him so much.
@@soulfarmretreats5191 😓🙏❤️ I’m so sorry, how ever what a lucky horse to have such amazing owners. I’m sure you guys gave him the best life out there
I realize this is an older video.. but the rattle you hear, is most llikely due to the hide and the bish (the strapping you used to tie it together) may not have been pulled tight enough... running the drum with her face down.. quickly through a fire a time or three will also help :) I hope the folks who taught you how to make that beautiful drum, also afforded you the teachings that go with her (all hand drums are female... in case you were wondering hehe... biiiig drums played by lots of people, are male...) I had cuts on my hands for weeks after making my first drum.. years ago.. still play her and feed her regularly... loooove her big beautiful booming voice :) Your drum is gorgeous, and your smile when showing her off.. is priceless! well done!
I so appreciate this information. Yes, I’ve been using this drum for a couple of years now, learned a lot about adjusting the tension with fire, and she has lost her rattle. I had no idea the drums had feminine energy! I appreciate your sharing your knowledge. Thank you for the encouragement.
Definitely needed this!❤
So glad. Stay mellow this weekend!
Thank you Judi! Love the transitions and the strength. Summer to fall is always a difficult transition for me. I’ll definitely do this again!
Wonderful! I hope it was fun for you!
Wonderful. Thank you, Judi!
Thank you, Kara. Good to hear from you!
I so needed this practice today❤namaste

So good to hear from you Kara! Glad you enjoyed this!
Loved this flow❤
So happy to hear! Thank you.
Another yummy practice. Thank you Judi. You ALWAYS know how to get me to where I want to be.
I appreciate that, Nikki!
THis was a great sequence and love that youre in jeans, relaxed doing this. Would love to see more yoga sequences like this!
Yep, sometimes stretchy jeans are more comfortable than yoga pants! Thank you for practicing, and I have several new postings that I think you will like if you go to the home page.
i will, thank you@@soulfarmretreats5191
Beautiful practice, Judi. Thank you! 🙏🏻
So happy you found value in it. 💕
I absolutely LOVED the practice and felt like I was at Soul Farm with the birds chirping and the horses coughing. It allowed me to bring nature into my home studio. Thank you!
Haha...I think Jayne has allergies. Thank you, Nikki!
omg, sprout loves yoga too! How old is he now, is that gray on his snout? Love the video Judi, looks like you are still happy and healthy.
Yes, not sure, but I think Sprout has definitely reacher her Wise Woman years...thank you for watching!
A BEAUTIFUL practice! The simple but powerful theme combined with the physical practice - wow! Will be doing this regularly. Thank you for the pranayama - it’s been awhile since I’ve done this. Appreciate the reminder of how helpful it is
glad you found it helpful!
What a workout ❤my body loved it
oh, you are darned sweet. I'm so glad.
Hi Judi! Thank you for this beautiful practice, enjoyed it this morning!
Excellent! Thank you. I plan to post another next week, Colleen. I think the theme is going to be "conserving energy".
I love everything about this Judi! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful practice and your beautiful energy! Happy Summer Solstice! ☀️
Thank you!
I love your dishes and glassware. I’m a collector of dishes and glassware, too (and silverware). I have sets of things but my favorites are the “onesies”. Last year I started collecting teacups and saucers and plates. I don’t have any more storage space but if I’m out and about and see a sweet orphan dish or piece that I fall for, it comes home with me. I simply can’t help it. ❤️
I've put beautiful old plates that don't look good enough to eat with in flower boxes and beds to add color! Maybe you can find new uses for these sweet things.
Hi - love your ranch. I have a 1 acre pasture on a good slant, with some rocks about 4" in diameter or less. Do you think this would work with my dirt pasture and break up the hard spots, level it out filling in the small ditches that are made by the rain? I am a little worried about the rocks.
Sorry about the late reply. I don't think it'll work because of the rocks. You likely will ruin your drag. You may need something larger to do what you are thinking. This is pretty small potatoes!
I love this! It made me tear up 🥲 We like to walk our horses too 💜
I’m sure they love it as much as Boogey!
Lovely story! Just curious, would you say that Boogey seemed excited for walks when he saw the harness (similar to a dog)?
Maybe! I know that sometimes when horses see a halter and they DON'T want to to the thing (go for a ride) they will avoid you. So, I do bet that he anticipated a walk when he saw the halter. I didn't really think about it! Thanks for watching, Andrea!!
Soul Farm really does it all!!
So super sweet! Thanks for making me smile. 😊
You are welcome, Jennifer!
Really nice video. And the shot of Boogey looking through the door at the goat made me laugh.
Wonderful!
Thank you, Tom.
I have several pieces of "Diane" by Fine China of Japan in my Blue China collection. It's one of my favorites ..... it pairs well with my white on white collection; with "Dresden Rose" and Barbizon" by Mikasa; "Somerset" by Excel; "Tivoli" by Carico; and "Blue Whisper" by Sheffield. Love to mix and mis-match.....
Wonderful! I bet those settings are beautiful.
💜💜💜💜
Used this for track practice today!
Yay!

I done my fair share a scrambling the road apples in the pasture.
I loved seeing this video Judi. I had no idea all the work involved. Can’t wait to see your drum at Soul Farm. Like Monica’s comment below, I too have been learning to play the frame drum and can’t wait to share drumming with other women in sacred ceremony. Blessings for a wonderful 2022
Dear Judi, this is so fantastic to see. I am so glad you made a video for us! I just bought a frame drum recently, and am learning to play. What you do here shows me about something being endless. Thank you.
Thank you, Monica. I hope to see you and your drum at a ceremony here sometime soon!
The plates are beautiful.
Thank you so much!!
Hi, Judy....I'm "out of commission" for a bit recovering from knee replacement surgery, so have plenty of time to check out what's going on in the "outside world". I'm really enjoying following your videos about your first winter out at Soul Farm; this one in particular seems extra polished and well done. I admire you for taking on this challenge and look forward to learning more about your adventures! XOXO
thank you, Linda! Hope you have a speedy recovery and are back to yoga soon!
Glad Marshmallow is doing well 😀
Me, too!
You are a true homesteader, Judi!
Well, not really, Andrea. I always wanted to give that a try…chickens, goats, big garden…but unless my energy levels go way up, I’m going to be content with being a somewhat-homesteader. 😉
Judi, you are such an inspiration! I hope the winter goes smoothly, and you make more videos about the little things that happen along the way.
Be careful what you hope for, Fran!! I sure do plan to keep in touch with these videos. 😆
You have such a gift of story telling. I always love listening to you. Sending you lots of love to heal quickly!
Thank you, my friend.
Look at that beautiful sky!
This is a job they don't tell you about at career day! That's amazing that he was so patient with her!
He is such a good boy!
The farm house looks like a restful place to be year round. Hope you are enjoying being there. Seeing the space gives me a nostalgic feelings.
I am. So far the weather has been wonderful, though!
This was such a wonderful experience. I think that helping set up is something every retreat leader should experience, to feel the work that goes into the enjoyment. And I still think we won that tent set up competition.
Absolutely beautiful
Thank you, Izzi!
Looks so cozy and I love all the vintage pieces!
Thank you, Andrea!
Love love love it! 😍
Miss you!!
