    Hi how did you manage with hypos and dumping syndrome 😊

    Tell us more about your experience with diabetes in 2 years. How did you deal with the type one issue. This is what stops me so far from doing the sleeve operation

    I am type 1 diabetes. My biggest concern is hypoglycemia. If I can't drink how can I raise my sugar if required

    Hi Samantha, I truly wish you all the best in your life. I am a 24 year old suffering from diabetes type 1 and i am thinking now more and more about doing the Sleeve op. I am also about 40 kilos above my ideal weight. I am taking about 35 - 40 units before each meal and feeling like a youthful spirit living inside an old tiring man's body. There is not much information on the internet so please answer me. Would you recommend it for me?

    • @samfrena
      @samfrena 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes do it. This is the best decision I have ever made for myself

    Samantha, do you have a significant drop in the amount of insulin you now use since the surgery? I've researched type 1 diabetics getting the sleeve vs gastric bypass, not much info out there other than a video from 2015 when the Cleveland Clinic was saying the Bypass seemed to be the better option for type 1, but now that the sleeve is becoming more and more popular, i'm wondering now if the Cleveland Clinic still thinks the Bypass is a better choice.. A friend of mine had the sleeve also and he has lost between 120 and 140 in about 14 months and really looks and feels much better.

    • @samfrena
      @samfrena 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I went from 2.5 units a hour in my pump to maybe 1.2 1.3 units a hour

    • @samfrena
      @samfrena 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel so much better I can't explain how bad I truly felt before the surgery

    • @FreddyBaggett
      @FreddyBaggett 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@samfrena that's awesome... Half the insulin you once needed is significant, especially with the high cost of insulin. Also, are you having more lows, and if so what do you drink or eat yo bring your sugar back to a normal range? My friend says carbonated drinks like coke, and candy is a no no with the sleeve.

    • @Maria-qr7fn
      @Maria-qr7fn หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would think for type1 the sleeve would be a better option if you have a hypo and had bypass you would get dumping but the sleeve I heard that you don’t 😊

    Hi Sam. I just wanted to touch base and tell you I have had my surgery plus my surgeon found 2 hernias that he repaired. I am a bit sore but not sorry. Thanks to you I was prepared. Blood sugar levels have been amazing. The odd low. Still need to fine tune my long lasting insulin. Hopefully you are doing well now you’re back at work and life is speeding up again. Let me know how going back to the real world works? Thanks Kathy 😀

    Also I had to get cleared by all my doctor's and my endocrinologist thought that I would do good after the surgery I mean it took a good 6 months before I was able to get it done and talking to all my doctor's too.

  • @kathleenwilkinson935
    @kathleenwilkinson935 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    How did you know you were ready to have the surgery ? Were you well controlled before your surgery? Are you coping after it ?

    • @samfrena
      @samfrena 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kathleen Wilkinson I had pretty good control not the greatest my a1c was a 8.3 before surgery and I kept thinking like it's going to get better after and it has my a1c has dropped to a 7.3 it's easier to manage I definitely do not need tons of insulin like I was on I feel way better.

  • @kathleenwilkinson935

    9th July just about 2 weeks to go. This surgery is very rarely done on type 1 diabetics in Australia. So was very pleased to see your post. I don’t feel so alone now. Please keep posting I am really keen to follow your progress.

      Kathleen Wilkinson that's awesome I figured it would help since I have type one diabetes and I'm going through the after surgery process. When are you going to get it done.
