Can you use the excel document for several different parts without them chasing each time? For example if I made a part that was 200x300. And then I wanted a new part which was 500x800 ... would the original part change to 500x800 too?
The Excel file can control several different parts in an assembly, but if you insert the same part several times in an assembly, then change the values in Excel, all instances of the part in the assembly will be updated. One solution may be to save a copy of the file with a new name.

This seems really straightforward and my descriptions dialog now shows title 1-6 as the first 6 entries but it still thinks line 4 is ENGINEER, line 5 is JOB NO and line 6 is DATE. I need 6 lines in my title block but I can't get more than 3. I am 3 days into learning ACE with the help of TH-cam alone and I'm only able to duplicate the results of a video about 20% of the time. So frustrating. I think I want my $3200 back. My proj_name_wdtitle.wdl only has 6 lines mapping LINE#=Title #: "Why does it say paper jam when there is no paper jam?"
I get it! There are many aspects of AE that are NOT intuitive and make no sense. To clarify, the preview panel of the project manager will only show the first three lines. If you want to see the other lines, you will have to right-click on the project and choose descriptions. As for the other questions, are you using the standard border and title strip, or have you created your own?
Please let me know if you want specific questions answered in videos. I plan on making an entire series of videos over the next few months.
@@professor_porkchopI started with the NFPADemo project. The preview panel shows all 6 lines if I follow your instructions, that’s not the issue. The issue is the title block is placing lines 4-6 in the wrong fields even after the preview panel shows all 6 lines are mapped correctly. The title section of the title block is never more than 3 lines long. The demo project is mapping those lines in the wdt file but it looks wrong because several lines are mapped once and then mapped again on a proceeding line.
That is a head-scratcher for sure! I have not had that issue. I'm interested to see how we can solve that problem. I will be posting a video on how to create a custom border and title strip with the descriptions mapped in a more intuitive way. Keep an eye out for it next week.
Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks
Right on! Let me know if you have any questions!
For some reason, they decided it might be good to make that tool slower, clunkier and less useful when used in an assembly environment... There used to be a big "Select Dimensions" button within the dialogue box, pressing that button or pressing D on the keyboard would automatically display all dimensions from all parts within an assembly (which is very useful for my workflow) and you could instantly start picking the ones you wanted. Now I need to go click the "Select Source" button so I'm able to click on the part I need dimenstions from and then I have to click AGAIN on the Select Source button to deactivate it so I'm able to click on the dimensions I want. So needlessly annoying and will surely make our workflow much slower since we can produce up to 500 drawings per day.
Documenting assemblies can be frustrating - I will look to see if there is a solution for this issue.
@@professor_porkchop There is one... and as always, it is to code your own tools in iLogic / VBA because Autodesk can't be trusted to deliver a half decent product for an increasingly, borderline unaffordable piece of software.
Agreed. And iLogic is one of those things that some people don't want to try because it seems "scary"
A great explaination video ... Thakyou so much for such detailed and intutive content.
Thanks! Let me know if you have any questions!
Very nice, so what made you use joint instead of constraint when adding the cam to the push rod. And when would you use one over the other if making it rigid?
Sam, Thanks for the question! I used a rigid joint to fix the cam to the push rod because, by doing so, it saves time. If I wanted to use constraints I would have to have applied at least two. It is not much time, but every little bit adds up. Joints are designed to save time in the assembly environment and in the presentation environment as well.
@@professor_porkchop Thanks, I switched jobs and I'm going from Solidworks to Inventor. Trying to learn as much as I can on it as I'm the teams 3D guy. I'm curious about mating planes together in alinement. I work with round objects some with things leading off from these objects in directions that need to be fixed, but mated to another object as a long run of pipe. I plan to work through your videos soon. Thanks again.
Sam, One approach is to model your parts around the origin geometry ( X, Y, and Z axes as well as the XY, XZ, and YZ planes) and use them for alignment. If you need planes at other angles you can create work planes at those angles. Let me know if you have questions!
Great series. Can't wait for the remaining videos.
Thanks for the comment! I'm currently working on the next video - it should be published early next week!
thank you it helped a lot!
You’re welcome! Let me know if you need anything else!
Hi. I made linetype using shape. But when i send my drawing to someone, linetype dont work. Is it beacause of shape? Must be shape and drawing in same folder and then if someone open drawing from that file, will work? If i want to send linetype to someone, what to do that linetype will be shown as i made that? Thanks
Thanks for the question! You will need to send the linetype file (.lin) and the shape file (.shp) to the client. The client may save them on his computer (both files in the same location) before opening the drawing file. When the file is opened, the program will direct the user to specify the location of the linetype file, and everything should work out just right!
Ok. Thanks a lot 😉
Hey! Could I use this program to customize a car frame? I need to fabricate the rear of a classic car I have to hold a subframe of an electric vehicle. Can you message me? Would love to talk to a person familiar with autodesk
Certainly! Do you have access to the 3D model of the subframe of the electric vehicle? If you can sketch it on paper you can model it in Inventor. The other alternative is to model the space available and use the frame generator to place the structural members, then miter or cope them. I have a video on the frame generator as well. Let me know.
👍👍👍
Thanks for the thumbs-up!

Piacere mio! Sono felice che sia stato utile! Mia moglie ed io visiteremo l'Italia alla fine di questo mese!
Sono molto contento per voi. Vi auguro una piacevole vacanza.
Hi! Could you demonstrate how to design with a skeleton or a master sketch?
That question is not related to design a part, but increase productivity in design process for instance, create a assembly family, or to get a new one size of product quickly.
Sergio, Yes! This is a great topic for a video series. I will probably have to break it up into a few videos, so look for something soon. Thanks for the request!
I would like copy of files, i wish to do it on my own. TKS
I'm sorry, but I don't can't share these files at this time.
Hey, Klint. It's cool to see your face on TH-cam. I noticed you exited the block editor before adding the VP scale field. Is that something you can add into the block and it still updates? Also, maybe you have a vid on this already, but i could really use a refresher course on LISP routines.
Hey Mike! No, unfortunately, the field linked to the viewport cannot be in the block. If you add it in the block editor the link to the viewport doesn't stay connected when you save the block. Here are two links to AutoLISP basics: th-cam.com/video/ID_Cl5jsZK4/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/_L8dZT7C3Gg/w-d-xo.html I can make more if you let me know specifics. Great to hear from you!
How do you define the sheet metal rules in order to obtain the best result?
Fernando, The sheet metal rules are based on several factors, but the two most important are the type of material and thickness. When sheet metal bends, the inside of the bend is compressed and the outside of the bend is stretched. The neutral line is the point in the thickness that remains the same length. To calculate the bend allowance by hand you have to know where that neutral line is. In order to create a flat pattern (if not using a CAD package such as Inventor) a designer usually refers to a bend allowance table. For the most part, if you choose the correct material and thickness, Inventor will correctly create your flat patterns - to within a few thousandths of an inch! Here is a link to a resource that gives more information on sheet metal unfold rules: ketiv.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/KETIV-AVA-Sheet-Metal-Unfold-Rules-Equations.pdf
Best tutorial on the subject , thank you

Do you have any practical tips on using constraints in assemblys and the difference between constraintsand joinsand how they apply in assemblys.
Thanks for the question! Yes, there are some advantages to using joints instead of constraints - it depends on your application and what will be done with the assembly. Joints are perfect for use when you will be animating the assembly. This video demonstrates using constraints to assemble parts. This is a great video because it demonstrates how to use the origin features (the XY, XZ, and YZ planes as well as the X, Y, and Z axes) to help with assemblies: th-cam.com/video/xYFtmx0s7tc/w-d-xo.html Here is a video for joints: th-cam.com/video/ApDwh3paZGw/w-d-xo.html I will be making a series of videos next week.
