Collaging Suram 2012
A collage I made in 2012 with lots of music from different sources. I'm especially proud of the "cloudy mountains" bit that starts at 3:00 made from zooming in to a xerox collage made by David Serrotte. Enjoy.

Where's Jerry?
มุมมอง 60หลายเดือนก่อน
An "ambient" (?) piece made for "The Red Room in Your Room" the High Zero Foundation's 2020 Pandemic online T.V. show. My acquaintance worked in a bird hospital and a bird came in that only said, "Where's Jerry?". I think about that bird alot. -M.C. Schmidt

Small demonstrations of the raw washing machine sounds that are the basis of Matmos' album "Ultimate Care II". Perhaps enjoyable after listening to the album?

Matmos "Mud Dauber Wasp"
มุมมอง 1.6Kปีที่แล้ว
This song is built entirely out of a recording of a mud dauber wasp in flight originally recorded by Albro T. Gaul for his "The Sound of Insects" LP (Folkways Records, 1960, FW06178); this archival recording was manipulated, sampled and re-built into a new composition. Electronics and processing by Matmos (Drew Daniel and M.C Schmidt). The song "Mud Dauber Wasp" appears on the album "Return to ...
Ambient Video for Red Room Chat Lobby with music

The non-profit music presenting body I work with in Baltimore (The High Zero Foundation) was forced by circumstance to present all their shows "online". Every week for a while there in 2020 I would make a video intro for the "lobby" before show. This is one of those videos. Music by Max Eilbacher, Matmos/Safety Scissors/Sutekh, Cex, Andrew Tuttle, Olivia Block and me, M.C. Schmidt. I made all t...

Matmos - Great Geometry
มุมมอง 5834 ปีที่แล้ว
When Matmos tours, we sometimes create new pieces for those tours. We always intended to make a studio version of Great Geometry, but never did. A fancy festival we played made a good recording of it, so that's where this sound comes from. It doesn't have any conceptual baggage or belong to an album. I made the video to project during our performance. Turn down the lights, go fullscreen and enj...
Phase Chancellor Phase 6
มุมมอง 7947 ปีที่แล้ว
Around 2005 J Lesser, Nate Boyce and M.C. Schmidt decided to have a band called Phase Chancellor. The conceit was that we would each only play one synthesizer, and that there would be all new video work for every show. This is some of the work that came out of it. The synthesizers, if you care about that sort of thing, were a Korg Mono/Poly (Nate), a Dave Smith Evolver (J) and a Korg MS 2000 (M...

I love your melodic improves! I often find myself thinking of a parrot who was the pet of a wealthy man whose son I was acquainted with who would always greet me with "who the fuck are you?" To this day I haven't been able to answer that question.

I thoroughly enjoyed this entire video. I was distracted for a little while because I paused and unpaused the video many times at the 1:40 minute mark because I liked watching the man's eyebrows very much. The video got especially good right before the 4:00 minute mark. The brush part was a little scary but I like the sounds it made. The end part was confusing but I liked it. Sometimes it's nice to be confused, in a nice way.

Did you use this in some live concerts? I swear I saw some of this when you played with Laub in London (but that'd be too early so maybe it was the Cafe Oto gig?). I look forward to the sequel to this, titled 'Incredibly Important Piano Work'.

@@MrMcess I remember at the Laub gig you giving a stern telling off (via eyeballing and pointing) mid song to some people in the front who wouldn't shut up. I remember because I was sat directly behind them and they were annoying the hell out of me too! Plus you gave the whole 'you wanna come up here and do this?' point to them and I thought you were asking me to come up, I was about to come join in haha!

I was in The True Vine Record store today diggin for some albums and some really great instrumental, Can-influenced sounding music was blasting out of the speakers. When I was paying for my albums I asked the store owner Jason "What is this?" He replied "Them!" pointing to two guys sitting in the store. Today I met the guitarist and bassist from Horse Lords, they are some very talented and very humble brothers.
