We are the Alaska Food Policy Council. Our goal is to create a healthier, more secure, and more self-reliant Alaska by improving our food system.
OUR FOOD, OUR PEOPLE, OUR FUTURE
The AFPC is open to anyone interested in improving Alaska’s food systems - agencies and individuals representing federal and state agencies, tribal entities, schools, university programs, farmers, fisheries, and food systems businesses. The role of the AFPC is to:
CONNECT: Engage with Alaskans to get input to strengthen our food system, and to connect them with each other to learn and collaborate.
ADVOCATE: Develop recommendations and share them with policymakers at the local, state, federal, and tribal level.
INFORM: Share information, resources, opportunities, and risks with all food stakeholders (everyone who eats!)

Mel Sikes discusses Lisa Murkowski’s appropriated funds marked for introducing hydroponics in 3 schools by providing growing systems, training, and management assistance.

Max Lyons of Alutiig Grown shared hydroponic related highlights from a recent trip to the Kenai Peninsula visiting local food producers.

This is in response to the comments about connecting peony growers with other food suppliers for refrigeration facility sharing. The Alaska peony season is generally from end of June until end of August. I am not aware of any peony cooler that is also set up for freezing. If peony growers did share their facilities most would need to re-think their risk management and liability practices.
