What you’re describing is happening in every industry. Companies don’t want to pay for decent help and no one wants to mentor new people anymore. It’s sad and idk what to do since I’m early in my career.
I agree a 100%, I leaned more from old timers than any class, and companies use to let you spend time with the older people to learn, now the companies want you to come in know everything but pay and treat you like crap
@ that’s exactly how I’ve been treated, and I’m not even a diesel tech. I’m in a white collar field with a bachelor’s degree.
@@nathanm2664 I hear ya Brother, I noticed it about 15 years ago, management was starting to get full of people that had no business being their/or family members, first they took away incentives, then benefits/retirement and then the pay start to decline
@ yep I’ve never had good leadership in my professional career. Ever.
Was a commercial driver for one of these corporate fleets for 30 years. Was fortunate for most of those years to have good mechanics like you that kept me rolling. Thanks for all you do !
@@SHUB281 my pleasure, I had a lot of and bad driver's over the years, more good than bad thank God,
Didn't this guy try to kill some people during a highway altercation
Bro thank you
If that’s a 5000 mile filter, then that engine was already sludgy to begin with.
I would agree with you, just trying to show what bad Maintenace is
@ this is why I watch these videos…because I don’t want to find out first-hand.
@@carlovanrijk4039 I had a guy comment that he changes his oil every 12,000 miles to save money on oil changes, that's crazy, oil is cheap engines are expensive
@@dandiesel5109 I drive a lot of hwy miles to and from work…about 600 miles a week. I change my oil about every 7000 miles or every 3 months. I could not imagine letting my oil get to 12K miles…that’s a lot of dirt and contaminants that’s accumulated.
what you use to remove the old studs try removing mines and they are snapping in half .
@@elliotdiaz3168 I have stud remover, a no name, worked good, get it locked on a give it a good jerk and they come out pretty easily
If that’s 5k on the filter I’m a flying taco.
Youre a blatant retard. All my vehicles i do oil changes at 5k and the oil is no where near turning black.
Attention to detail. Military mechanics learn and live this from professional birth. In boot camp, we are disciplined for having a wrinkle in a bedsheet, or a minor defect in a uniform, or the commode has water spots. Why? Because without a detail oriented mindset, people die. Military aircraft fall out of the sky from a missing tool jamming a control surface, or a gun loaded with too much powder, or someone losing a limb in a machine that wasn't properly prepared for maintenance. Today's youth are "excused" for a defect tolerant culture. "Good enough" isn't good enough in practical terms. Yes, upper management shoulders some of the blame, but technicians go along and pass off substandard work because management told them to. Techs should stand their ground and not pass poor workmanship to a customer or quit. A company willing to sacrifice quality is willing to sacrifice their workforce when profits fall anyway and life is miserable without a sense of accomplishment and demonstrated professionalism. Go Navy, only after DJT and the new Defense Secretary sort it out.
@@MerwinWren I agree with you Brother, but unfortunately I did stand my ground on workmanship and it got me let go, and it was a big name company, these big companies run like they have 4 trucks and $500 budget, SMH
@danhewitt5109 Go independent. I was a Navy aircraft mechanic for 20 years, 16 of those years hands on and 4 at the project management level. When quality slips in that field people die or we cannot prosecute the mission. Fought tooth and nail with bureaucrats at the HQ level who were all about budget and not concerned with physics. The old 'do more with less' mentality. Independent shops have a reputation to protect so they focus on the customer, not profit although without some profit they cannot exist. What has this got to do with aircraft maintenance? That kind of commitment to quality increases their profit immensely. They can't support all the business that comes to their shop. I have to wait 6 weeks for an oil change because my shop is so popular. Everyone knows that whatever they fix stays fixed and they only do a service when a car needs it, not because a service manager tells them to do it. Look for a shop with that philosophy or, if that is how you do business, find others to help and start your own. Once word gets out that you are the best value, you won't have to worry about finances again, even if another COVID turns up.
Emissions killed the world of diesel. Diesel runs our economy. You mess with diesel you mess up everything. I think the money is in getting paid by clowns to make their duramax into a race car.
You are right, EGR and DPF killed the diesel, when I was at the dealer in the 2000s before EGR/DPF we were getting 9 to 12 mpg now 25 years later were getting around 6mpg, we didn't gain or save anything, and costs have tripled
I have worked in the auto body industry as a body man for 18 years. The industry is a disaster. Mega companies with people writing estimates that don’t even know what a bumper is. They are ultimately responsible for what is billed and in turn as a commission tech what I make. Insurance companies choking off pay. Imagine getting paid peanuts to repair a 100 thousand dollar vehicle. I have been making the same money for the past 10 years. Now over the past year it has been cut in half. NOBODY is getting into auto body. The money is there but is being left on the table in the front office and that is passed down to us. I’m out.
I noticed it going downhill about 15 years ago, like you said management is full of people that shouldn't be there, they all have company cars, bonuses and commission, while they expect us to have 30years experience and every tool under the sun work 7 days a week and holidays and pay us like we work in fast food SMH
Is that ground also for the turn signal?
These 2 grounds are for the front light harness, so I would say yes, because the engine harness is separate and has it's own ground
Too much brake clean vapors, you took the 20k oil filter
All I heard was "I still haven't finished the job yet, Boss."
All I hear is the safety bonus I get every time one of the trucks or trailers pass a DOT stop, LOL
What kind of oil and filter were they using? If you’re using cheap conventional oil and a garbage filter, then yeah, change it sooner. If you’re using a reliable brand of synthetic oil and a premium filter, 5,000 miles in normal driving conditions is fine. BTW - I change my own oil at around 5,000 miles, and my oil filter has never looked like that.
I go 10k & oil results still show plenty of life😄
Right up until they don't anymore.....
@robhegstrom9996 ☝️depends on the oil
Also depends on the type of car and the type of driving. City stop & go, change it before 5K miles. Hwy driving up to 7.5K miles….with full synthetic.
Where's the connection point for the last one u mentioned?

Hey my man, I have this exact same yr, and engine. I have 2 codes that recently popped up. P24F7 and P0401. Where should I start? AHI module was replaced last November, along with the valve that supplies air to the module..
Looks like you have 2 different problems going on the one code is for a purge valve issue and the other is a EGR flow issue, which could be a EGR valve or cooler, without a laptop it will be hard to do anything here, you need to see if you have EGR flow is when the EGR temp is higher than coolant temp, the purge valve you will have to go through the checks on the laptop
@@dandiesel5109 Sounds like I need to get it to a shop, as I don't have a laptop to plug in. Thanks for the reply!
Sounds like a guy that MISMANAGED his money. Grow up cry baby.
Been doing this for 8 years now after driving for 20+ years got sick of the driving part you are dead on on everything you're saying and i dont understand why younger guys dont want to learn anymore i still learn something new every day but trying to do this and make a good living is getting harder every year im doing it
I hear ya Brother, I just got in at a transit auth, and I have great benefits and pension and all I have to do is show up, I know most guys hate working on buses, but city transit is not going anywhere and one of the few wrenching jobs that still offer a pension
Sometime jpro dosen't read the codes same as ptt (tech tool) . I also stopped doing regen (bad def- full soot ) .. it falls message, I'm just exiting and resetting soot level and drive again and no stoppage... full soot level my a$%

Here's my new solution for this as a consumer. New cars suck with all the tech, get an older cult car where you typically have a specialty shop that focuses on just those and knows everything about them inside and out. These shops are where the real techs end up and know what they're doing. If you buy a new car there literally isn't anyone to work on the anymore and you'll just get told to bad so sad, that noise is normal and good by.
Its because they pay the people in the office more money, same thing everywhere.
@@petebusch9069 very ture, the people doing the work get screwed
@@dandiesel5109 Its that way everywhere, the star of the show gets shoved in the back room doing all the work making JUST enough money to keep them from quitting. If you think being a mechanic is bad try being an over the road trucker working 24/7 only to scrape by. At least mechanics get to go home at night and have the option to work in a specialty shop. This is where most of the good techs end up, a cult car specialty shop like Subaru WRX's.
I really want to be a mechanic, just starting going to Pennco in Blackwood for diesel technician straight out of high school and hearing all these stories are scaring me. I want to work in this field but I don’t want to get backstab. I don’t know what to do
@@Loyalist-i7p I would suggest going into HVAC or Plumbing more money less tools, and you can start a small company down road and make a ton of money, being a mechanic companies expect you to know everything, work for pennies, work day and night and weekends and holidays and spend most of your money to the tool guy, unless you get in with NJ Transit or Septa
Looking for fuses and relays in regards to blinkers and hazards not working
I believe the fuse box in the lower left-hand side of the steering wheel dash, it's a small one has the lights in it, if it's a Anthem it will be under the hood
Just replaced 2 of them with low miles on them. What I'm finding is the tension spring is laying on the bearing when I pull the seal out. I normally use skf or stemco.
I found what look like the person that did it didn't clean the rust off the spindle where the seal rides, that may have been the issue with one or two, but I found 6 that were leaking just after installation, so the company stopped using them
Bro who you tryna fool with this BS 😭😭🤦🏽♂️
Ran into something similar p24f7 code for fuel air purge valve closed. Cleared lines going to 7 th injector and replaced injector. Also found that same bellow cracked and the def dozer covered with white crystals. Did you clean you dpf or replace it?
Well, we send the DPFs out to get cleaned, but I do clean out the DOC and exhaust pipe from the turbo and replace all crush gaskets
I never reuse the shoes or the drum.
@@jimthompsonjr4451 I don't either, but I'm getting a lot of comment's of guys that would, I'm sorry I'm not put my ass on the line to save company money
Truth, esp in auto repair scene. This trade is DYING. Mainly due to cheap employers not paying proper. Hvac, res electrician jobs pay far better, with only a fraction of the $ required for tooling. Stay away from this trade!
Your videos helped me out alout cheers 😊

I got into cranes, hoists, elevators, factory automation and industrial machinery... Never looked back, ever. The only automotive I do is my own. Do what is the hardest and you become the hardest to loose. I recently hired a 26 year old apprentice under me, I put rockets on his feet. People teach too slow because they assume everyone fits into a common learning time frame which is false. I treat younger learners like they are smart, I treat them like they actually can learn fast and they never let me down this way. Some guys think you need 2 or 4 years to learn effectively, that's a lie and a joke propagated since the board of education was created in the early 1900's by Rockefeller to feed the factories based on the Prussian empire 8 year education program. You need people that believe in you, that don't need to control you, don't need to own you, that don't need to stay smarter than you. The greatest leaders always put the best and brightest minds, even beyond their own knowledge ahead of them. I take apprentices to pro-level in under two years and they surpass anyone at 4 plus. Learn to actually teach and lead, then the industry can gain respect. We certainly don't need anymore managers, just leaders.

Hi Dan, what are some of the symptoms of a bad Engine Harness. Ive got a CXU613 year 2017 thats giving engine shutdown alarm with low coolant sign and truck derate. Any advice would be appreciated
@@HarjotSingh-rq4yv first thing I would do ,is confirm you don't have a coolant issue, I have seen the sensor in the tank bad, second I would inspect the harness, looking for any rub marks, or missing loom looking for heat damage which would make the wires dry and hard, and then the wiggle test, see if you trip any codes or see if the RPMs change, without being there I can only tell where I would start, if you have codes see what the troubleshooting chart gives you, see if anything is in common that would be your point of attack
