Success!!! Piston Removal...

I was able to remove the rusted pistons with just a small torch and WD-40...it worked very well...I've tried Trans. fluid, Evapo-Rust, and a combination of trans. fluid and Acetone...maybe those fluids are what initially started to break up the rust...I'm sure they helped...#chevy327 #smallblockchevy

Squarebody Column Shifter Swap #squarebodytrucks

This is a very quick tutorial on how to swap out steering column shifters. This was done on my squarebody truck, but I'm sure it's the same procedure for all or most column shifters. I did notice that the pin hole was a little smaller on the aftermarket shifter, so I had to drill out the hole one size bigger..LIKE...SUBSCRIBE..SHARE...

    You only bore one cylinder and leave all seven std bored and get all piston and rods cut to way 10 grams under and 15 grams over send the oil to the top end faster to run the dry sump pantara

    They are not rusted in place in most cases. This will RUIN the lifter bores. The lifters are mushroomed from wear. Push them out the bottom and let them fall to the floor. If the motor is assembled in the car, read my other post. NEVER USE THIS TOOL.

  • @davidkeeton6716
    @davidkeeton6716 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    DO NOT EVER DO THIS! NEVER EVER! Pull the lifters up in the bore by hand until they stop and hold in place. Pull out the ones that slip out. Take the cam out. Make a cardboard or aluminum trough to slip in place of the cam. Push the ones that won't come up, down into the trough ONE AT A TIME. Fish them out with a magnet pickup tool. This way you don't damage the bores pulling a mushroomed lifter up, ruining the lifter bore.

    And what are your plans for it when you do get it apart? It will need to be bored and what yr is it ? Is it a small journal or large journal motor ? If it's a large journal meaning 68 or newer it's really nothing but an underbored 350 and not really even worth fooling with you can't bore it to be a 350 and with so many actual 350 blocks available???? Now if it's a. Small journal engine that's a different story then your in the world of 283 302 and 327 engines and of course we all know how good they could be just being a small cu inch motor w a short stroke they had to be spun to the moon but when built right were amazing aka the dz. 302 for its unfortunately only 3 yr run it snapped many heads back lol so a small journal 327 can easily be configured in similar fashion w even better results .

      @squarebodymob the 65 would be the one if you were going to throw money at it to give you the 327 rpms that they were known for if I'm not mistaken they have a four inch bore and just a hair shorter stroke than a 350 to get 327 a lot can be done w a big bore short stroke motor the large journal ones well you may as well just build a 350 is the way I understand it

      When I took the heads off I discovered that the motor has already been bored .060…so I was very disappointed about that…I did price how much it would cost to sleeve the cylinders and it is expensive…I was also told that I could actually bore the more to .080…not sure which direction I’m going with this motor yet..if nothing else at least I got a forged steel crank and a great set of heads from it…

    I have also bought used engines to rebuild but the cost of this project will be high. It will need to go to machine shop for overbore and hone and new pistons, rings etc. Then you will need the heads done. You can buy a complete crate motor starting at around $2k. Not trying to discourage you but you might add up all it will need. I just bought a 283 on market place for $100. I am going to rebuild it for a early chevy nova. It would be cheaper to just buy a crate motor but I want to do this myself, expensive hobby.

    When the end gaps are too small, the heat expands the rings, the gaps close up, and they have nowhere to go. So they force their way through the ring lands of the pistons. It's FAR better to have a little extra gap, than too little.
