The Story of Linda Martell
มุมมอง 15K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Linda Martell was the first Black woman to grace the stage of the Grand Ole Opry. She had Billboard success, with 3 songs charting on the Country Music Top 100. But with such a promising start and outlook on her career in Country music, it all seemed to come to a sudden halt. 50 years later, the interest in Ms. Martell has grown to levels in which she never imagined. This trailer is for a docum...
This has the potential to become a cult classic like "Searching For Sugarman"
I remember her & Charley Pride.
No Beyonce ... Freddie Fender.
The name plantation records would've been enough for me not to sign as black people we don't realize that we can never be equal on earth just because we are the people of the most high we may not be chosen here but we are chosen with him ❤
Excellent. A long time coming, well deserved. Congratulations
It’s crazy how many country singers sang country/gospel and they were racist to the black folk singers !!
How beautiful. And nothing can take away from Linda Martell all that she accomplished. Her work and artistry live on! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😊💛
I wish we could of heard about Charley Prides story. R.I.P. i am ready to hear this story!
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Me!
I wanna see the documentary, and a movie!
Where is the documentary? She so pretty. Reminds me of my mother.
I'm from Sweden and wonder where to find : Bad Case of The Country Blues: The Linda Martell Story. It's 2024 now and I try to google but can't find it.
FANTASTIC! Good 4 u granddaughter, please tell the story of Thelma living her dream and reaching her success that was great but should have been GREATER! They say it's never 2 late but that's not true! That beautiful woman deserved her recognition at that time n on going, seems like some money 2 is due? But in either case, her story will b told n more people will know the name LINDA MARTELL n discover her beautiful voice, as I have done n I hope that brings some joy to her! She is lovely! Thank u Beyonce! Not only do u fight 4 u but u reach out n take the hands of so many b4 u n around u n u say COME ON NOW! So yes! Come on! Lets go!
Linda was in the swedish programe Jills Veranda where Titiyo Jah visited Linda and sang Color him Father. Later Jill and Titiyo sang that song in Petosky. It was recorded 2013 and can be seen worldwide on SVT-play.
I just started looking and now im all in i love that her story is being told
What a special woman!!! Plantation Records -- what an asshole he must have been -- I'm glad someone introduced her to me.
❤🎉
I just learned about this. Its such an awful thing to be mistreated for more than 50 years. Such a good and talented person deserves so much better. My aunt sang in the Sweet Inspirations and background for Elvis and she has seen some of this ugliness. Not from Elvis but from those in the country space. I love country and I think it is in a better space now. Country should stay conservative and wholesome for families. Linda Martell is a perfect example of what country music is. Everlasting
I do remember her appearing on Hee Haw. If it had not been for Beyonce I would not have known her name. Thanks for sharing this video.
Color Me Country is one of the best LPs ever made. Its more authentic than a lot of records by so-called country artists.
Such a shame it took a no-talent like Beyonce to bring Lindas name back into the public consciousness. Long overdue. Color Him Father is one of the greatest records ever. Linda Martell should be a millionairess.
🙄. Y’all really think hating on Beyoncé is something that makes you unique and different. It’s honestly just embarrassing. Go to sleep old white man.
Do you have talent?
Excellent!! Can’t wait to see this documentary! ❤
Thanks to this broadcast, we know Linda Martel in France now. Grear artiste ❤❤❤
Awww I love that her granddaughter is the one helping tell this story. This is beautiful.
Intrigued as to Why exactly would this lady be blacklisted when Charley Pride was never blacklisted? Blacklisted for what? Makes no sense. Couldn't been for pot. In the 70s everyone knew that even the Hag smoked pot. Despite his Oakie from Muskogee anthem. 😆 🤣 😂
Where can I watch this
Beautiful story can't wait for the documentary
Where’s the documentary?
Anyone else being educated about Linda thanks to Queen B? ♥️
I urge everyone to get Lindas Color Me Country album. I got my copy off ebay. Its Great and on orange vinyl. Donald Ewert Milwaukee
Now everyone should check out Linda's album Color me Country. I got mine off ebay.
New fan for sure. Thanks for sharing her story.
Will I be able to buy a physical copy of this documentary when it releases?
I know of Charley Pride, but never heard of her. I’m so glad to be learning about her. Also, is she part Native American? She really looks like she is at least 3/4’s.
Beyoncé brought me here! South Carolina’s own!
I just listened to her album...it is really good! Thanks to spotify.
I would see her cover Aretha Franklin , Friday-Sunday at the El Matador in Columbia SC . Loved her voice, she’s a great singer. Remembered when she went to Nashville and when she came back to Columbia.
ICONIC. Thanks to other phenomenal artist like Beyonce who put us on to the older GREATS that pave the way for all of us.
Beyonce def brought me here ❤
I've never heard of her until I saw her on a swedish show named Jills Veranda (Jills Porch) that's recorded in Nashville. Jill Johnson had invited the swedish singer Titiyo Jah that had Lindas LP and wanted to meet her. It took lots of phone calls to track down where Linda lived and many days but finally Linda called and wanted to meet Titiyo. Titiyo flew from Nashville to Lindas hometown and met her in her home. Later Titiyo and Jill sang Color him father in Petoskey.
Amazing 👏
shout out to beyonce for introducing linda to a new generation
AGREED... and I don't even like country music.
Kelly Clarkson mentioned Linda Martel before Beyonce did.
Bad case of the blues I adore this song. What a gem.
