Way too complicated...
Steve thanks for this valuable information. I couldn't figure out why the TV guide was not appearing. Your explanation really solidified the network architecture. Off to buy a MoCA bridge!!
Thanks so much for your video!
wait till the home owner gets a control4 system and hates their fuckin life with service calls lol
I ONLY WANNA PUT MY AMAZON PRIME :(
I own a Verizon Quantum Gateway. Can it be used as a modem/router with ISP Optimum's input?
Wonderful video! What wire gauge did you use for each light bulb?
Thank you very much!
Thank you so much man super helpful video subscribed I was going crazy with that extra coax until you talked about the bridge that saved me a trip to returning my new router 🤘🏼 thank a million
Omg thank you for this short and sweet simple guide.
Which one is best router?
Hello, Thanks for posting. Have a question: Can I attach my Netgear Orbi router in AP mode to the FIOS 3100 Gateway ad get the best of both worlds. I don't want to worry about maintaining currency for STB's or getting proper On Demand/Guide/Recording FIOS TV functionality. I just want to use my Orbi router to expand coverage, accomodate speed and to do some band steering for 2.4 devices. Lastly, though I'd like to have a single SSID probably not possible. If I have to assign a different SSID to the Orbi, what method is best to insure certain devices are assigned to the Orbi since the FIOS router will be the only router with DHCP capability? Please advise your thoughts on this, Thanks in advance.
What about Verizon FiOS and Phone? How do you handle the PHONE part?
Could you recommend a moca bridge?
you still need the moca bridge if you run ethernet to the set top boxes?
If using non-Fios tv service such as TH-cam Tv or Hulu tv, is the Moca bridge still necessary?
I just talked to Verizon customer support, the phone service won't be affected by switching to your own router, so if you aren't using FiOS TV service, the MOCA bridge shouldn't be necessary
Hi Steve!! Curious, would you know how to ditch Cable TV - yet still keep "Internet and Phone" with Fios? I'm trying to ditch Cable TV and just go live streaming -- Amazon, Hulu, Netflix etc - Do I still need the Mocha bridge? - thanks for the in depth videos!!
What does a data port on my own T enabled mean? Is it necessary for my own router or is it really necessary for the cable tv service?
I have watched about half a dozen youtube videos on the difference between Wifi access points Vs Wifi repeaters. Every other video defined what an access point is and what a repeater is. This is the only video that described where you would use a router and an access point. This video described very clearly the pro's and con's of using both systems. Great video.
Turn your phone sideways before starting the video so we get a full widescreen picture.
Negan anyone?
do you need a network switch?
Ok yes it will work for short period of time. Then some upgrades or power outage s throws everything off and you will call Vz to come and reactivate boxes. You can not force activate without vz router. You can just purchase a Vz router or used online as cheap as $39 bucks. Also new boxes are wireless and will not connect to anything but vz equipment. Great idea but it turns into lots of issues. Buy router and never pay again. Data only use whatever you wish. We train techs from vz , Alltice , Cablvision, time Warner and Optimum. VZ does the most training by far. Maybe you spoke to contractor for Vz? They have the most educated employees hands down.
***See reply below for an update••• Verizon will no longer provide moca services if you enable your data port (at least here in the northeast). After switching to ethernet sevice, I tried the moca bridge (since I already had the adapter) and no moca signal was present to provide the tv program guide or the internet services over coax. OTH, the signal could still be present, but the ip services have been disabled. Either way, you will no longer be able to access your programming guide, dvr programming, or access the internet over coax. Check with your local Verizon to verify what will happen if you intend on making the switch.
notice none of the replies from the maker of the video are less than 2 yrs old, so things probably changed....
Joe Miller I thought it curious that I couldn’t find any other posts on the internet regarding the issue I was having. I then decided to go back and examine my hookup. So I reconnected everything the way stated in the video with the same components as before...still no MOCA. I then replaced the MOCA adapter with another one...still no MOCA. I then replaced the coax patch cable from the splitter to the MOCA adapter and...surprise, it worked. All along it was a bad cable that was preventing the MOCA signal being passed...DOH! So yeah, this setup still works. Just make sure all the peripheral stuff is working as it should before making the same assumption I did.
I tried callng your number and it says no longer in service do you have another contact
Why is this portrait instead of landscape?
Does anyone of you know if Verizon enables the moca capability of ont over coax cable? Has anyone tried asking them and succeeded? I ask since it is impossible to run the Ethernet cable in an ideal location to ensure good wifi signal on my router once I ask verizon to enable the Ethernet port. Appreciate your response.
Also..can someone please suggest a moca bridge? Is that the same as a moca adapter? Like this one smile.amazon.com/dp/B077Y3SQXR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_aMmlFb0R9PZPE
Great video, thank you. What happens if you connect an Ethernet wire from an Extender to...say...a laptop. Are the dynamics changed, and is it a good idea to do so in a home type scenario.
Hi i wanna like to ask if can we connect both AP and wifi reapeater in one router at the same time?
@TechnospeakCorporation , Thank you. For the past year, I have used your model with perfect success for TV/Phone/Internet with Verizon Fios and my own router; my Motorola Bonded 2.0 MoCA Adapter (MM1000) came with a POE (point of entry) filter which I used on coax between ONT and Splitter. I was using Verizon boxes QIP7232 and QIP7100 with perfect functionality. This past weekend, I received updated Fios TV1 Boxes VMS4100 and IPC4100(mini). When I plug them in exactly as old boxes, I get a message that they cannot find router. (Although they have pulled dhcp# from my router) I get to setting menu on both new boxes by hitting "power" followed by "ok", "ok" and see that they show same address as my router indicates. However, they will not initialize. I specifically told tech on order, that I had "customer owned router". After calling tech-support today, I was told he has never heard of any TV service working without a VZ router, and they cannot troubleshoot without a VZ router. Do you have another solution? Thank you. Here is print of layout: imgur.com/a/BGNxYhX
Can you have both moca and Ethernet both active?
Thank you YOU ROCK!
Great video! Does this method also maintain the ability to use Remote DVR/TV through the Fios app? Other threads are suggesting even with this method you’ll have to set some explicit firewall rules on your gateway.
3 years after posted it was the perfect explanation of what I have been looking for. Trying to design a Unifi network and the cable part threw me every time . Thank you.
Are you using a USG?
If you use the Fios wifi extender will that work in place of the moca? I ask because I have the extender which is right behind my TV which are both located a great distance from my router that's located in the front of my house.
This is all you need? I am using my moca from Verizon and has started to lose ondemand and I reset one set top box and now it doesn’t update the guide but all my DVR recordings are there. I bought another moca so hope this works. My other set top boxes are no longer allowing ondemand. It worked for at least 5 years and just started happening. I’ve never been able to add a new set top box either. So I hope this moca bridge works.
Hi, just to clarify does this mean that my food mini boxes will be able to work wirelessly with this set up?
Hi Steve. Thanks for this video - I am in the process of doing this now. A few questions: 1. My STB is connected through WiFi. There is a coax that going into my router. Do I hook up the moCa bridge by the ONT or near the router...or doesn’t it matter? Assuming it needs to interrupt the line that goes from my ONT to my STB...and these devices are on different floors in my house. 2. Do I need to activate the data port on the ONt with this set up?
Christopher Carl hey bud, did you ever get this figured out? I set this up but was having an issue with my WiFi from the new router. Trying to figure out if you got it because I believe I have my STB is via WiFi too, cheers
Can I use the Verizon Router as the Moca bridge and use a different router for my Wifi?
Yes, but you're still renting the Verizon router to do that.
Thanks a lot. It's good I am about to buy repeaters. Because of your video, I just utilized my old router as an access point.
I'm dealing with something similar where my provider's gateway is just sub optimal, they provide me with TV, phone and Internet and thanks to this video I now understand the connection outside my home, but I still don't get why not simply put their modem in bridge mode and use your own router - or am I missing something? Well, at least in my case my ISP's modem provides the speed I'm supposed to get and the power/noise ratio are within the acceptable range.
Verizon Fios TV is not offered in my area so I have antennae TV with a Roku Streaming+ stick which is fabulously wonderful. I have only FIOS phone and internet service. But, I want to upgrade my router to a WIFI 6. Can I get a non Fios router? If so, do I just install it like I would just be replacing the router?
Have you considered updating this video to go through the set up with Fios TV One. With the new STB's there is a need to initiate the boxes with the g1100 (or upgraded 3100) router. Once initiated you can place the g1100 in bridge mode and then use your own router as primary. For some reason the Fios TV One STB's require the g1100; likely port forwarding rules. Additionally, if you want to create a MOCA network and use Actiontec ECB6200 units the frequency needs to be changed in both as the g1100 and STB's run on the same frequency and creates issues. Essentially creating two MOCA networks through the same coax
So it is possible for me to use my own luxul router in place with moxa adapters with the new fios one and fios one minis? Sorry kinda got lost in your comment
Followed this guide and it worked like a charm for about 2 years. Now, it seems Verizon may have updated their firmware and as a result I now get a notice on my TV's stating that they can't find network connectivity and also asking if I have my Coax cable hooked up. Verizon states that the only way to fix this issue is to get their router. Any suggestions?
Hey there can you tell me the rate of this type of installation
Do you have any more detail on the moca setup?
Version is telling me it’s either or with the coax or Ethernet on the ONT. Is that accurate?
Yes... then get a $100 MoCA adapter to convert Ethernet back to MoCA for your STBs. Not cheap... but a means to an end.
@@mcouture8169 Got it, thanks. I was able to setup the MoCA and a Linksys router. However, while using OnDemand - after ten minutes the connection will cut out and I’ll have to stop and restart the movie. Is that strange?
Joe Geosits I’ve heard of this issue and seen fixes on a Verizon forum, but don’t have a link. 10-20 minutes of Google searches should get you an answer. Best of luck to you!
I installed both a Doorbird at my gate and my front door... awesome product and works great. The only drawback is the fact that the onboard relay is only rated for 1 amp which doesn't work well with a 24vac door strike that draws almost 2 amps.... but I installed a pilot relay and I was off to the races!
Question, why can't you just leave verizon router plugged in, disconnect all wifi enabled things to it, tell them to open the data port, connect new router, connect everything to that, wouldn't the old modem act as the mocha? Also, is data port a ethernet plug?
Christopher D that defeats the purpose of saving the 10$-15$ a month
I usually don't comment on videos, however, this video is great! I will try it.
