Well, it's that he worked hard.
They don’t make ‘em like this anymore. Incredible talent.
I ended up here because I bought a cd of Gershwin's overtures in the mid 80's conducted by John McGlinn and the New Princess Theater Orchestra. Played that cd to death over a few years time. Wow, who could do this routine nowadays? Absolutely amazing.
You just cannot find anyone who comes close to his incredible perfect timing choreography swag and style!!
One shot Fred! Nowdays, you'd have so many inserted closeups and camera angle changes the dance would be coherent.
What's the song's name ?
Genius
Incomparable Fred Astaire will always be supreme ❤️
Fred Astaire is Amazing😍👍
Amazing!!! What a joy! Never see this in my lifetime (1960-
My Mom danced ballet & tap on & off of Broadway, and Fred Astaire was one of her instructors back in the day. She said he was a lovely man,; inside & out. His talent was only equal to his gracious personality. Today it is hard to find such talent coupled with such humility and grace!
Gifted.
Wonder how many drums he kicked through before this cut.
While Gene Kelly was athletic and flashy, Fred was ... Well, Fred
Fred's films are always such a delight. His acting alone can carry the entire movie, his dancing is like the cherry on top. And yet his dancing, I absolutely cannot fault, beyond divine.
he's the wrong colour...
Beast mode.
Do we know if the audio was recorded live or dubbed afterward? I recall reading it was the former but can no longer find the reference.
The poster of this video calls him a 'great dancer'. No, he was (and still is) the greatest. I just laugh my bolocks off when I hear dimwits call Michael Jackson an incredible dancer. As a dancer he wasn't fit to tie Fred's shoelaces.
Awesome!
This just really makes me want a pair of tap shoes
Im cringing
❤❤❤
Wow! That's the best drum solo I've heard! Hats off!
Was definitely entertaining, but scale of difficulty? Low-bar, bcuz he did much better in other shows......Eleanor Powell, was the fastest tapper spinner etc! Go see her! FA 💖'd her talent!!!
“Nice work if you can get it” is playing in the background for those interested.
A modern elegant talented genius The best of all in the olimpo
Hmmm... I'd call this an "okay" film of an outstanding artist. Definitely not his "best scene ever". In my opinion, Astaire's best solo performance was his tribute to his teacher, "Bojangles" Robinson. (Unfortunately, his performance was marred by his use, commonplace in his day and time, of "blackface" for his performance, along with some downright silly cultural references.) The performance, which includes him dancing in circles to FIVE different levels of syncopation, is mind-bogging. His tribute to the man he said, "Taught me how to dance."
It's ok, but certainly not his "best scene."
Superhuman talent. Not a celebrity today can hold a candle to him.
Michael Jackson was not a fan of Elvis but he was a fan of Fred Astaire... Talent knows talent.
If only Buddy Rich could dance?
F E N O M E N A L E!!!
One of my biggest inspirational dancer I've ever witnessed!
Magique
Handsome, charming, gentle, self-assured, stylish, positive, humble, adorable~
No one will EVER top Fred Astaire. NO ONE. EVER. a true genius. a very hard working GENIUS.
It's totally unreal how talented this man was. Dance, sing, act, play piano, drums. He was also, next to Crosby, the top solo recording star of the 1930's. His dancing, however, was incomparable. My favorite Astaire number is almost always the last one I saw, because it's so hard to choose.
This is the best dance routine that I've ever seen. And as an artist who loves watching various dancers and iceskaters I have viewed a lot of choreographed dance moves but this very old and classic style of dance/drums Americana takes the CAKE! I could watch this man do this for hours and see a new move that he embedded in the choreography. WOW!!! And WOW again!!
I'm SO glad this was in my recommendations!! I don't really watch, nor am I that familiar with the films of this era, but I do LOVE music, and especially the insanely talented among our human species. Fred Astaire is a straight up mutant!! Also, if he can tap dance like that WHILE playing with sticks then you KNOW that he's a boss on a jazz drum kit. Bravo TH-cam algorithm!! THANK YOU for recommending this to me!! :-)
This guy just doesn't quit!
Effortless!
Effortless
how can people be talanted like this? fred astaire pure skill
The 48 thumbs down wouldn't know talent if it bit them in the butt
Balding, can’t sing, can dance a little, - the verdict from his first screen test,
Unparalleled, incomparable and unique in its art.
You can tell greatness by its sheer lack of effort. He’s was just a natural.
The best (and only) performance of tap dance drumming i've ever seen!
