BC Search and Rescue Association
Canada
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 26 ก.พ. 2014
The BC Search and Rescue Association (BCSARA) exists to represents all of the volunteer Ground Search and Rescue teams in the Province of BC. The association brings together SAR professionals to discuss and resolve issues, to access funding for training, to provide occupational health and safety support, to educate general public on outdoor safety and to act as a common link to information and resources for Search and Rescue practitioners across British Columbia.
BCSARA acts as a liaison between Emergency Management British Columbia, the agency that oversees emergency response on a provincial level, the RCMP and local police forces who handle missing persons cases, and the SAR groups that represent the over 2500 hard working volunteers who rescue over 1000 people every year.

One of these days I'll make it to one of your webinars while it is actually taking place! haha Thank you for always recording and posting your webinars on your TH-cam page, they're always full of great information!

BC Adventure smart."you have saved lives"
Good video, had the pleasure of working in this park as a Park Ranger back in the early 90's. Might just give the Hanes another go in 2025 when I turn 70. lol
Sounds great and thanks for using our BC AdventureSmart trail video to reference the hike and good luck if you do it again!
I don't understand why this fella wasn't carrying the "10 essentials" and plenty of water, especially since he was leading groups of students?
Theirry mentioned that this was a hike they did "every year"... and this does contribute. In previous webinars we've also featured subjects who were on a "familiar" hike and, subsequently, didn't have all the equipment they would normally take for a new-to-them hike. You can even see it on the local difficult trails -- few people take a full kit up the BCMC or up the Chief even though they should. The basis behind this is "Survivorship Bias", which in this case is a level of complacency that comes from completing the hike before multiple times. You know what to expect -- going up doesn't take as long as it first did as you're no longer looking for cues to where the trail goes, etc. Once you've done a bunch of times you figure "heck, why I am carrying all this stuff? This is an easy trail, I know what to expect", etc. I personally often catch myself thinking the same way -- sometimes after the fact. One more note for this particular example: From the pictures, most people had backpacks on. There may have been a thought that there was enough supplies amongst the whole group -- which, of course, assumes the whole group stays together.
Harrowing story, great outcome. Thanks to both Theirry and Paul for joining us!
I liked this one, an analytical, social approach of the process that trip leaders go thru with group dynamics.

I work in a field where my career is not typically valued nor is taken very seriously so we do not get the resources needed to do our job effectively or how to manage our stress post incident. I came across this in an effort to manage my post incident stress and found that a lot of factors that you mentioned in the video were applicable to me. I appreciate you sharing the video and I feel that I am somewhat better enabled to take care of myself mentally/behaviorally post incident. Thank you.
