    Hi John, was involved with frank in the late eighties, we made two costin nathan gt's.made new moulds for it, got Roger Nathan to buy them a few years back. Friend wood made the wooden chassis. Then went on to make a new car called the roadster, had k series rover engine, frank designed a box section steel chassis for it.Lotus copied us to make the elise. You can see it online, I made the body for it, took a year. This marcos of yours, have you put a GT front end on it? Is this a modded duckling?

    The upper part of the con rods (2/3?)also reciprocates with the pistons so must matter as much? Plus pistons on a 4 cylinder engine cannot be balanced truly for reciprocating acceleration/ deceleration because a piston accelerating from tdc accelerates at a different rate to the other pistons accelerating from BDC same goes for deceleration when approaching BDC and tdc so no matter how equal the piston weights are, on a 4 cylinder engine the pistons going up will never balance the pistons going down. You can show this by doing a drawing with degrees of rotation and see that at for example 10 degrees from BDC the piston will be a different distance from BDC compared to the piston at tdc.

    Do you use a standard Austin 7 oil pump overbored with these pressurised cranks? Or do you use a different type of oil pump? What sort of pressures do they run at? Thanks.

    • @bertiewooster3326
      @bertiewooster3326 ปีที่แล้ว

      A non pressurized crank is good for 5000rpm+- with standard rods or a bit more , in my experience a pressurized crank is often more trouble than its worth forget Renault rods too much trouble.The secret of winning a highplace in the A7 world is reliability and finishing that gets you the points to win a championship! Engine runs with 15 to 20lbs (overbored oil pump) splash fed and full flow filter.Enjoy !

      @@will6635 I am sorry, I did reply on my phone but for some reason it did not record it. Anyway I explained that I did not have a drawing of the plate that was welded on the underside of the gooseneck. However it is a simple plate that follows the shape of the open section and is then bent to fit the gooseneck. It is then arc welded to the gooseneck and this stiffens the weak section. John, pleased to see you are making progress, a long way from being as she was but a long way forward from when I last saw her. A colour photo, nice touch, you have been busy searching, I only ever saw the b/w. Sorry you could not use the bonnet Dave got from Sweden, it should have fitted. What did you end up using for power? Cheers, Martyn

    • @johnsutton3279
      @johnsutton3279 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Martin. Very good to her from you. yes we are finally making progress. Having restored the original bonnet Larry has had difficulty taking a mound off it and so has decided to use the Swedish bonnet modified to fit. The engine is a 1300 cc Cosworth that was built for Andy Seward for HOO 144 but was part restored and so I bought it and completed the rebuild. Interestingly it was built by my old friend Stuart Rolt and he had all the details of it. Dry slumped and tested to 170 HP it should go very well. Keep in touch and give my regards to Gord Davidson. John

    • @johnsutton3279
      @johnsutton3279 ปีที่แล้ว

      Martin, Thanks for your continued interest. Actually Larry has decided to use the Swedish bonnet after all as he has had difficulty making the mound for the reworked original one. The power unit is a 1300 cc Ford 109E unit that I purchased from Sewell who owned the Minoprio car when he was stationed in Europe. Interestingly it was built by my long time friend Stuart Rolt and he had kept all the details. It was brake tested to 170 bhp so it should go very well. Thanks and please keep in touch, john

      An "Ulster" is the sports version of the Austin 7. The title came about after the successful 1929 Tourist Trophy race at Dundrod in Northern Ireland. My car as shown is one of the 6 works cars entered in that race. Previous Austin 7 racing cars were designated in various other names. But after the 1929 race they were called "Ulsters" as Ulster is where the race was held.

      @@johnsutton3279 First cars were made in 1959. They made many between 1959 and 1961 when frank costin left the company. There is no way it is a prototype made in 1961 since there where many made beginning in 1959. The first ones were called the Marcus GT, often called the Marcus 1500, nickname because they had ford 1.5 liter engine. The company tried a 1.8 liter volvo in 63 that flopped. introduced a Marcus mini with metal frame in 1969 also with the volvo 1.8 litre and it failed. Company died in 1972. But was bought and relaunched in 1976 and the sold home built kits of the car. NOW I know what you have is A luton Gullwing model. Those cars were sold from 1961 and 1962 and only a few were sold. they were exclusively home built kit cars, and they delivered everything you needed to put one together. They had 1 litre engines. The chassis was put together and delivered as a whole. Those don't appear to be the original rims. The original were solid and had no vent holes. Its not really a prototype. Its more of a one off . Still it is a very nice historical car . I would make it look like a museum piece. I just love to restore unique cars. You should see the rare 64 MGB i did, first electronic overdrive car. taking it from Basket case to museum. The car you have was made specifically for the home grown GT racer.
