Though the United States has positioned itself as a beacon of democracy, its colonial power over five territories (Guam, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands) complicates that narrative. These territories, as well as the U.S. state of Hawai’i, have been exploited for their lush land and resources, and their people deployed as shields in far-flung wa...

I don’t understand anything that you are relating to
I missed the livestream of this but this was a very good conversation. Great questions by Marcia. This gave me a lot to think about. Valuable information and forecasts on where the documentary field is heading next.
Great conversation. Sorry I missed it live! Thank you all.
Super insightful
lol
Just checking in, good stuff.
So sad to know the main protagonist is no longer with us. I returned from the cinema 2 hours ago after seeing this amazing film. There were two of us in the cinema. Afterwards we made friends and exchanged numbers. If I hadn't gone we would never have met. Such a brave film. Thank you.
Necessary conversation. I absolutely loved Coco's passion and everything she had to say.
Great work RIP doll 💜

So wonderful! Thank you IDA for making this panel accessible in so many ways, and for the incredible Indigenous cultural diversity of this event. Thank you Firelight, whose Beyond Resilience series was a cherished resource throughout the pandemic and beyond, to Michelle, and Kin Theory, I am so grateful for all your programing and the new office hours. A great day to witness. Thank you Julianna for paving a path, for the series you made with Mr. Nelson which is powerful, moving and inspiring. Boring. Sjw cancer
We got to watch this live and now we’re so glad to know it’s recorded and can be shared. What a gift to have this hour with some of the most important documentary filmmakers of our time. Thank you.
You all just keep coming with content that inspires & educates. Now following Third Horizon as well. We're excited about positive movements towards diaspora and Pan-African storytelling. It's important for us to see all the ways we're connected and can be in solidarity with one another. Onwards.
Thank you for watching and for your support!
This was so inspiring and educational. Thank you.
Stanley was robbed of his Oscar because Attica was what Sam said! That film was brilliant! Thanks for talking about the sweet spot in historical docs! Inspiring.
So at one point in the discussion Dawn Porter I believe in referencing “commissioners” as being “conservative.” Is that a euphemism for “white?” Meaning that in order to get programming concepts and ideas by the “white” gatekeepers your narrative must fall within a narrow frame as deemed appropriate. So in fact it is those gatekeepers who are defining in a sense what makes Black Stories/Narrative.
Marcia's use of describing herself for blind accessibility is amazing!!!
The idea of the Black Panthers was great but like many man-made ideas, was seriously flawed in execution and leadership and eventually they imploded from the inside. Eldridge Cleaver, author of Soul on Ice and Chief intelligence officer for the Black Panthers states in his book how he was raping black women in order to practice raping white women. That is not a leader or a protector of anyone. That is a monster. Huey Newton, became a full blown junkie with his own people being the supplier. I hear a lot of talk of the Black Panthers but no one seems to bring these facts up which is strange. If we are going to teach history in order for people to learn we should teach what actually happened so people can learn from those mistakes.
the BP ruined gun rights
“Police brutality has never identified our problem. Our problem is one of complete captivity from birth to death, and coercion as the starting point of our interaction with the State and with ordinary white citizens.” "What freaks them out about an analysis of anti-Blackness is that this applies to the category of the Human, which means that they have to be destroyed regardless of their performance, or of their morality, and that they occupy a place of power that is completely unethical, regardless of what they do. And they’re not going to do that. Because what are they trying to do? They’re trying to build a better world. What are we trying to do? We’re trying to destroy the world. Two irreconcilable projects.” Anti-Blackness & Police Violence After Ferguson (2014) [from racial-realism to afro-pessimism] An Interview with Frank B. Wilderson, III
