20 years ago I gave my niece 5 Le Creuset dutch ovens and braises and other dishes and , I was working all the time and not cooking , now retired and wish I had all my Le Creuset back but I can't justify spending a few thousand dollars besides I can't afford it now so I have gone with Lodge and even at 79 dollars for a braiser that to me is still considered very high end seeing how with so many families that is still out of reach

I found out that the enameled Lodge is put on in China and I'm guessing that is why mine chipped and I sent it back.

Le Creuset is much too expensive to barely be better and only in some areas and worse in other areas. Lodge takes the win. People let their irrational bias to China affect their decision in buying good cookware for a non-price gouged price. And the fact that it doesn't even come with a metal knob is egregious if you look at hot expensive it is.

Neither. Tramontina. The lodge has a dak interior which is not good. Tramontina cooks on a par with Le Cruset at one fourth of the price.

One thing to mention is lodge dutch ovens only go to 7.5 quarts and Le Creuset goes to 15.5 quarts with the oval and 13 something quarts with the circle. I think a good saute pan and a dutch oven will do way more than one braiser and meet all your needs for inside cooking. In terms of Le Creaset I do feel it is a bit dishonest of them to offer such different pricing online as they do in store. I saved 300 dollars on my 15.5 quart dutch oven and got a combined 200 something savings on my saute pan and wok from buying in store so I feel they should disclose that there are far better prices in store. The only reason I found it out is because we walk at the mall during winter and gave them a call because the le creuset website does not seem to allow me to check out which like I said saved me 500 dollars in the end.

I don’t like Lodge because when I buy enamel coated cast iron I want a finished product. Lodge is the not completely covered with enamel. It has raw edges. Buy what you can afford but don’t expect a low end quality product to preform or hold up well. The enamel will also crack and chip.

I have a Lodge the bottom sticks and I have to wait for things to release or it is a mess. One big point that he didn't mention is the Le Creuset has a lifetime warranty so if the enamel wears or cracks they send you a new one, pretty sure Lodge doesn't have that.

"your mileage may vary'. I own 20 pieces of traditional Lodge (camp ovens, fry pans, muffin tins, trivets etc) I also have enamelled Kitchen Aide, Lagostina and Le Creuset. I'm pretty familiar with how cast iron cooks (enameled or seasoned). My 15 year old Le Creuset 30 cm fry pan lives on my stove top. Two years ago I bought the Le C braiser "for presentation" ~ rather than dropping a blackened pot in front of guests. Recently the enamel began separating from the iron. I admit to over-heating the pan while warming it for searing but the 'lifetime warranty' response from the vendor when I inquired about a claim for chipped enamel was disappointing. 'We reject the warranty' (fair, considering the damage was high heat). 'We will offer you a replacement item within the next three months at $XXX.xx provided you return the original at your expense.' The replacement cost was above what a factory outlet offers. So, I bought a different brand and kept the braiser. This one unit is the only failure I've had in 45 years of cooking with cast. Le Creuset are pretty... but they are not better made.

I have a Lodge skillet, not enameled, and I’m very happy with it! I’ve considered buying other pieces from them, and noticed that certain other pieces are extremely less expensive than others. In the fine print, it indicates that these less expensive pieces are manufactured in either Vietnam or China. I try to avoid spending money on Chinese products as much as possible. I know, a very challenging undertaking. Therefore, I would not spend a nickel on any product on the Lodge website that isn’t made in the United States. Their enameled products made in the United States, are the very highest quality, unlike the ones imported from foreign countries. They deserve a look. My impression is that they are superior to Le Creuset.

You pay $70 bc the people making that pan is likely mistreated and work like slaves without healthcare and human rights. Le Creuset and Staub pay their employees fairly with a reasonable living wage and in humane conditions. Lodge lost me at ‘Made In China’. I only buy staub and le creuset. You get what you pay for and sometimes you do not see what you get bc it’s the invisible ppl who makes our products that we do not see. Their livelihood their humanity

I have two Dutch ovens, one of each brand. I use my Lodge for soups and stews because it has a more rounded inside and makes stirring more comfortable, easier. The Le Creuset has the bigger flat surface in the Dutch oven so I use it mostly for searing meats. I cannot tell the difference in performance between the two. Both have held up beautifully.

The France enameling process is superior and incomparable to other brands. I’ve read that USA companies have tried to emulate it, but failed and ended up moving the manufacturing to France. The Made in China enameled process is not even close, that’s why it’s a little bit cheaper. Lower quality doesn’t last as long. So, based on the enameling alone, Le Crueset Made in France pieces are the clear winners by far. Add to that the design and longevity and Le Crueset Made in France wins again. Save up for them, it’s worth it! 👍
