I think that many people focus too much on one side of a country (whether the positives or negatives), they completely ignore the other side (again whether it’s positives or negatives) But I like how in this video they try to express both the good and the bad, that’s much more realistic

I'm fortunate that no one has ever tried that with me, but also I'm 5'9, 180, so the average Japanese person probably doesn't want problems with me LOL loved hearing these perspectives!

Yo black dudes brothas and sistas from the USA specifically. There is no dei no entitlements no benefit hand outs just on the basis on black skin color. Japan did not enslave black people so they have zero obligations to give special treatment to blacks on the basis of skin color. There is no critical race theory. In Japan you are absolutely judged on intelligence and capabilities. Everyone is judged on how well they can succeed rather than just getting a gold star for effort. It is 100% based on meritocracy (unless we are talking about seniority) but never eve based on dei. You must obey all the cultural rules norms written and unwritten. You cannot conduct yourself with ghetto antics like yall do in the USA. It will not be tolerated and you will be arrested. All respectful well behaved intelligent brothas and sistas are always welcome.

1:36 At least for Americans (in my circle of friends at least) hugging a physical affection becomes exclusive to the person you are in a close relationship with. Just always be ready to talk about these things and don't be afraid to ask questions and let your expectations be known. Is it romantic to communicate directly? Not really. Is it important for a relationship? Absolutely.

The ironic thing is gyaru is based off black culture, AND so is rock. You wouldn't have any modern day musical genres with black Americans, yet rock is more centered as being led by white people (those same white people will still claim their inspiration from black people, at least in most 1970s-90s bands. Like Dave Grohl was inspired by Muddy Waters for Foo Fighters, and references him in his 2016 documentary).

However, there are genuine cases in which tourists or even expatriates are treated at a different standard or even subtly discriminated against here. I should also add that this has nothing to do with the color of their skin, most of the time. This is quite a cynical mindset of some of us, though I do understand how people may watch these videos of foreigners criticizing their treatment in a country that is not their own, and view this as false accusations and victim blaming. It is also strange of you as well to claim that these people are the root of their problems when neither of us can testify on their experiences. 5:06 people that die their hair man... I feel like they're neglecting and disliking their hair color when they do that. I'm not gonna lie, that's the truth, if you do any sort of alteration or change to your body in any form or sort, it means that you dislike something from you, and that maybe you wanna copycat somebody else. Stay natural, working out and beards don't count, that forms part of your body tho... That's called reaching your full pottential. She has to love herself, and if she hates me for that, then ok you know, she is free to do whatever she wants. i'm not here to please people i'm here to speak the TRUTH. Besides that i want to add that i feel her when she says that she recieved derogatory insults, hope things get better for her, just want the best for her, maybe she should learn how to kick some ass, just in case next time a japanese guy discriminates her she beats him up, and then you know disappear from the scene. I'm not gonna tolerate discrimination man 100% that's violence against my person, what i do is called serving punishment, not violence. 11:35 dreads are to fit in well afro hair, not curly hair, but how can i say this, it's a type of hair that generally speaking only african people grow, to fit it correctly in the head, dreadlocks are the best option, i don't understand why everybody else makes this *utility* a "fashion", dread locks don't suit people with non afro hair.

Ok, that was INTERESTING!!! I am learning Japanese now and I find videos like this very eye opening. I noticed that all of your contributors are young and just entering the country for a short amount of time. Umi being the diffference with her two years. I would like to see another video where you talk to people in their 30’s - 60’s. I know they’re there and the experiences of those individuals would be a little more informed with more experience and time in the country. Great job for even asking these individuals to participate in this project. I’m sure it’s not easy walking up to a complete stranger especially those with their guards up. African Americans are always interesting in new countries to our experience because for the first part of our lives here we are exposed to racism and adversity that we subliminally carry into other countries but once we’re more comfortable in our skins we tend to look past the racism look for others who make our time on Earth more worthwhile. We’re either loved or hated on separately or all at the same time. To those younger going to Japan for the new experience, go there wtih open eyes but do not let the negative comments get you down. We’re built to overcome any challenge and we’re compassionate people. Sometimes, it can be taken for weakness or taken for granted but when real people come along, real recognize real and happiness always follows that. Peace and Blessings to all reading this and I look forward to another video from you Riki. Hopefully with the suggestions I made earlier to add a little more to the experience.
