About creating process, ceramic business and more
How I make my "abundance" candleholders
This is the first part of the process, where I make the base part of the candleholder itself and the body, the upper arms and breasts. In the next part I will be making the lower arm, the hands and combine everything together/ This is the first video I made with my new camera and editing software just to try them out and learn how to film and edit, as a matter of fact I need to change my editing software because it took me a day to edit these 4 minutes. Next will I will find a faster program and continue to upload better and longer videos I hope. In the meantime enjoy and please ask any question, I am happy to answer. Have a great day!

Sculpting a fox
มุมมอง 3K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This is the timelaps of me sculpting a small white eartenware fox. It takes me about 15 minutes to get to the end of the first stage. After that I wait about 12 hours and then make final adjustments and paint them. If you would like to see more please visit my instagram

1 week in 2 minutes in the pottery studio
มุมมอง 3746 ปีที่แล้ว
Documented my work at the studio for about a week and cut out the difefrent stages of pottery work. Wdging, throwing on the potters wheel, turning the next day then leaving the piece to dry, pulling and attaching the handle (not seen in the clip), glazing after first bisc firing and then finally showing the finished mugs.

Really beautiful…thank you so much. ❤
Plese improved camera angle. Thank you.
are they air dried?
So you want to be a potter? Oh take this marketing and business class then. After all the business classes take one class in pottery. Yeah i think that's the reality. If you cant sell it you store it somewhere. It makes me sad because we get a chance to be creative but the bulk of the work is figuring out what sells, what market and how to sell it then carrying and setting up pots.
Hi Imelda! Could you please share the user/channel where you found “Rendi’s Red” recipe please? I’m super interested ☺️
Beautiful work Imelda. I to am fascinated by oxides but they have o be tamed too. - Do you have recipes for your oxide mixes? - Do you add EPK or Gerst. Borate to that? Add a little EPK to the mix and that will help slow down the melting & prevent full run to bottom. - What clays? The white looks like Bmix with Speckles. And the Red is ?? - cone?
Hi Imelda I'm not a potterer but I'm a sculptor who learned much from potterers I had a bad experience with etcy , I was working so hard to develop my etsy shop ,respecting their rule carefully ,till when I started to draw attention and bringing some trafic and sales ,they suspended my account without any reason and definitely After some research I found that they're racists they don't want some countries to work with them and they kicking US out this way Thank you
thank you for sharing!
Very good.
Cool
I love these little houses. Thank you for the video
I dont want to use glaze on terracotta mugs , is there any way to seal it from the inside and still safe to use?
You can fire the clay to the highest point until it is compleatly closed.
@@imeldaclayfigures4110 i dont have kiln ,so im limited to traditional method , like using wood or dung cake fuel
You could possibly fire it in the saw dust technique, so the carbon of the burnt saw dust will seal the pores and also give it a glaze like effect
Hi, may I ask if this is fired in oxidation or reduction, and also which cone did you fire to? Thanks so much!
I have done that, it does give the black color but cant say it seals as it still is porous@@manidipadas440
Thanks. Now I have more things to experiment with.
Good luck! You can also try other oxides and acide combinations! ❤️
Ps thank you for the advice about letting people see how you do what you do and why you do what you do.
Thank you for the video. I hope you are able to travel and sell that sounds exciting. Thank you for the info about marketing work that needs to go into selling.Have a fantastical week
This inspired me to take my first pottery class, it was a lot of fun! Check out my pottery vlog if you like! th-cam.com/video/Gd4yQBogLKk/w-d-xo.html
Your work is beautiful ❤️ You have a gift! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much for this video! This is all great advice. I'm teaching my highschool students about different art careers and this was exactly the kind of information I needed.
Hi Imelda! You look so nice with short or long hair! Thank you for your videos. Yes, custom orders can have a lot of pressure... especially when you have such a HUGE order! Even 1 custom order for me I freak out (not pottery). lol I am going to start handbuilding ceramics when I get my birthday money to go buy supplies end of this month! I am so excited! I have the same dilemma as you and other ceramicists... what to make and also has to be unique. The other thing I really want to learn about is the kiln and making sure I do the right thing! Also need access to a kiln as I cannot afford one right now. I look forward to your next video! :)
nice music tho
Thank you! I liked it because she sings about home...
Imelda I wanted you to know as someone just now starting off as a potter I am still struggling (in a small way) with what exactly to make. Like yourself I too enjoy making utilitarian ware (Coffee mugs, bowls, etc.). So I decided to focus on just two things (coffee mugs and bowls) just because everyone uses one or the other often several times a day. I know that there are a lot of other artists out there making coffee mugs, but my goal is to produce these and show them on my Facebook and Instagram account to get a feel for what other's think about my work, and use that as a way of determining where I go from there. Even within the idea of making "just" coffee mugs and bowls, there are a lot of differing styles and design possibilities. And I have seen for myself that a person can be profitable just making coffee mugs alone. I still work a full time job, and I have another part time job.
Amazing! I absolutly belive someone could be successful with making mugs alone, yes. If you can have 2 jobs and also make pottery you must be someone who can get there!
בהצלחה אימלדה!
I think it's fantastic that you have an idea of what you really like making. That's a big step.
Thank you for this comment. This is my biggest problem, I always see my progress as too slow. I am happy to get to this point where I can create and feel good, hope to stay here for a long time. Please feel free to tell about your work as well if you would like.
Hi Amanda ( please forgive me if I miisspelled your name). Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in trying to work as a full time potter/ceramic artist. I didn't start out knowing what to make, but I did know that my studio space is small and I too enjoy making functional pottery. Because there are a lot of coffee houses and coffee drinkers where I live, I decided to start by making coffee mugs. I pursue my production like a job, and I still work a full time job and a part time job.
Do you think it is possible to learn pottery entirely online? Great video!
Diana Figueroa Thankyou! Yes I think someone can learn ceramics and pottery alone at home, in an auto didactic way, but will need good tutorials and practice. Exactly like someone can learn to draw or to cook alone. It’ s just a skill like any other. With that said, I also have to say that someone needs an autodidactic personality, which means have confidence in themshelf that they can learn stuff alone. Good luck! 🦄
I’m a self taught potter. Straight from nature
@@HeatAxe but how can you practice without the tools? Or maybe you bought a kiln and a pottery's wheel? i'd like to learn by myself but idk how to start
what are some tips you would give yourself if you were in a new potters shoes? for example: the marketing and business side of this full time profession?
thank you :)
Have you ever thought about making more videos? I hope you were able to keep doing pottery since you obviously care about doing it. It can be hard! Good luck with everything.
Imelda this is so wonderful that you shared this! Finding it just now and you are so right about over saturation in going through etsy... also you don’t need to give us anything else to look at it’s a sit down talk 😊 side bullet points are great though! (Great set up)!
Oh thank you! I just saw ypur comment! 😍
Can you make a living with pottery?

That's it... In a nutshell. Thanks 😉
Thank you for your tips! Very helpful!
yup it's all about "spin" and if you make something unique and it becomes popular - it will be copied and the market will be diluted for your craft....yes?
thanks so much
