Lowe's Home Improvement End of Year Clearance Markdown
appreciate the video. Question to anyone I have a 2014 Accord 3.5 V6 with 88k. The Honda dealer states the oil pump seal is leaking ($1500), the reseal carrier bolts are leaking ($450 not sure what even this is), timing belt/water pump kit($1950). Both valve covers leaking($500), and with all these potential leaks no oil is lost over one year. I am planning to get the timing belt and water pump changed as regular maintenance, is the oil pump seal leak best to fix while doing the timing belt and how much more should I expect to pay. What are others paying for this jobs? Thanks
This was a great video imo. Length wasn’t even bad for how realistic the job takes. The longer the video, the better the explanation imo. Thanks for the effort and the post. Subscribed.
I was hoping to get the torque specs for the valve cover, spool valve, lower intake, upper intake, valve guide bolts and throttle body. Thanks!
Outstanding video series. Thank you for taking the time to make it. About to undertake the same issue on 2010 Honda Accord
I replaced just the top gasket on my 2010 Accord using a Mahle gasket. It's still holding up fine 2 years later. I orginally thought the valve cover gasket was leaking from the way the oil ran along the bottom edge/seam of the valve cover. But once I cleaned it up, I realized it was all from the spool valve. But definitely don't ignore the leak, because it Will kill your alternator.
Nope, making a change soon.
Loved this video. I really appreciated the long, detailed explanation. Really helps to fully understand everything you may encounter w/ this job, learned a lot. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Did your long screw bolts DD came sliver or they like discoloration like in aftermarket glock barrel chameleon color type
I used what they provided
O ok then ya
This was a bad video….sorry! I stopped watching as well.
Thanks for the detailed input. So bad it's been purring like a kitten for about a year now. I tried to see how much better your video was, but unfortunately I wasn't able to find it.
Does this mess with the timing if you loosen those bolts? My 2008 is leaking from there but I don’t want to mess with the timing
Not if you do it correctly. Follow all of the steps in the videos. I believe there are 3 parts.
great video! did you use OEM parts or other brand?
Thanks! I used the Napa/Walker auto parts store brand, which is Echlin for the valve. I usually prefer to use OEM parts most of the time. However, some OEM parts have a high failure rate, and in those cases, I'll take a chance on another brand.
Dewalt's manufacturing takes place in the United States, Mexico, Brazil, China, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the Czech Republic. Dewalt is a household name in the power tool industry, with manufacturing facilities in the United States, Canada, Mexico, China, Brazil, and Germany.
I just bought the brand new Front Assembly Spool (VVT Solenoid) the other day (April 18, 2024) for $338 at my Honda dealer. That’s some bull honky.
This video sucks so stinking bad
DON'T BUY CHINA PRODUCTS!
China's crap don't buy
Do you have to adjust the valves after?
No, but if you have high mileage and it's never been done before, it would be a good time to do it.
My rear is leaking it requires the rear rocker assembly to be removed
Some models and engines have a valve that bolts directly to the cylinder head and can be removed without taking the valve cover off.
I have a 2010 Accord v6 3.5l engine. does my car have this same VVT solenoid too? that at some point might need to be replaced ? how easy is it to remove old one and install new one?
It should unless you have a manual transmission model. It's not very hard if you follow the steps in the videos. The video was broken up into multiple parts. It's something that commonly starts to leak. The oil will run down the valve cover. The one on the front of the engine runs down on the alternator, causing it to short out.
Ground strap removal between powertrain and body does not require disconnection of the battery. It is simply a safety precaution by the manufacturer. I have never disconnected the battery for this repair. Please remove the aftermarket worm style clamps you have on this vehicle. They are not quality and fail to clamp the hose properly. If you must install one, consider that the hose is actually the problem, not the factory clamp. The engine drive belt is not called a "serpentine belt". Onto the power steering pump. I notice a poor quality aftermarket item installed. Only use genuine parts. Why did you remove the power steering pulley? You must remove the pump assembly. Please allow only a professional to repair vehicles. I stopped watching when you criticized vehicles as not easy to repair. They are, for a trained professional. Everything seems difficult to a person who is not experienced in the repair process. This repair process is literally a three hour repair, with precision work done along the way.
Thanks for your input, but this video isn't intended for you or any so-called "professional". I was a factory trained (different manufacturer) technician for over 10 years and was also ASE master certified. This was the first time I've done this repair and wasn't being paid or trying to beat the book time. I went slow on purpose to film and explain in great detail for someone who has never done it for themselves either. BTW it has been running perfectly with no leaks for a long time now. Yes, it can be done in 3 hours for someone that has done it multiple times and not trying to beat the book. The vehicles that I worked on behind a previous so-called professional, and found multiple loose or missing bolts, things not routed or secured properly, or damaged plastic, was probably done by people like you. Yes, it can be done without disconnecting the battery, but not recommended for someone without experience. As I said, it was filmed for this audience. I've replaced hundreds of failed spring tension factory hose clamps that leak. Never once had an issue with quality worm style clamps. Maybe you just don't know how tight to get them. The pulley was removed because the original replacement pump didn't come with a new pulley. Yes, OEM is usually better quality, but I've been very pleased with this replacement and anyone that's ever know a Honda for some time, knows that their power steering pumps are trash. Most aftermarket pumps are low quality rebuilds, even the Honda one is a rebuild. This was a new pump and has performed well. Much better than I expected. Again, thanks for the input. Troll on!
Well maybe the "professional " should address the cost issue this is the real issue Humm get the picture 😂😂
Part no. For spool valve?
What did I do wrong if it starts leaking more? I have a 2012 accord and got my new part from autozone. I also only used the top piece. I didn’t replace the whole valve.
Sounds like you most likely bought the Dorman part. Their products have a bad reputation, but according to Honda, the mounting surface between the two warps, and the correct repair is to replace the whole valve as I did in the video. Napa/ Walker sells the whole valve for cheaper than Honda.
my odyssey dont have that on front of valve cover
Some year models don't have them
This is why we are seeing so many fakes online like eBay
Bought to do this for a 2nd time. Once again thanks for the videos.
What ebay site sold the counterfeit gasket. Motorbaby USA sold me bootleg timing belt set that broke about 8000 miles. Never buy these on ebay. Had counterfeited boxes and bags.
I don't remember now. He was quick to refund my money without question, which tells me they were counterfeit. Yeah, those $200 Honda timing belt kits can't be real.
I can tell that there is a difference between China , and U.S. or Germany quality. If there is a peasize bit off grease on the wall in the gearbox in my expensive anglegrinder , then it is made in China “quality”😤
🤮🤮🤮🤥🤥😤 dewalt
In NL the box from my brushless anglegrinder stated six times germany bold fond , and very small made in the pcr. Thanks but no thanks.
Yeah. I was in Lowe's the other day and was looking at an item. They had the American flag and printed in large font that the ink or something (I can't remember exactly now) was made in the U.S.A. but on the back in very tiny font, tucked in the very bottom corner, it said made in China. I always get a kick whenever they say designed in but "professionally made in China" 😂
I used the cheap ebay gasket he showed and of course I got check engine. Next I attempted to replace the cheap screen filter with the old OEM filter but still got the code. What i did next was buy the whole valve assembly made by Dorman. Took it apart and only used the top part that comes off of the little bolts on top without taking the engine apart like he did in the video. Torque is 9ft/lbs. It worked for me. Goodluck!
Glad it worked for you. I tried the Dorman and went through 3 of them under warranty before I gave up. Dorman has a really bad reputation in the service industry.
Still works bros Finna try it tomorrow. Did you get the P3497 with P0174 and P0420? Saw oil leaking from the middle of the engine block along with those codes. Replace the mass airflow sensor check engine light went away and came back
What range is your torque wrench?
How are you getting the discounted prices on top of that
Home Depot issues prices to each item proportionally so that all the items add up to the price of the kit. They do it automatically when you put them in the cart.
I've heard different people say that they are hackable. What does that mean?
It means that you can return the items that you already own or don't want and keep the items that you do want at the lower price
It usually means you buy a combo online that has a huge discount, and return the item that you don't want from the combo in store while still keep the discount on the remaining item. They do this usually to combo a best selling tool with a less-desired tool in a big discount but people just return the undesired one, they seem to be Ok with that thinking most people may eventually get lazy and not returning the additional tool, or even find it useful and keep it.
Thanks for this. HD had the 8 ft on sale and looking forward to setting this up so this definitely helps.
Hi, I did the same and the battery light stays on. Do you know what might be the reason? Did the battery test, charge rate test. All is good.
What would be the torque on the bolts
Which bolts? I went over it in the video. There are multiple videos
Thanks for the video Tim. I got the 8ft and was mainly confused about the front and back. Video cleared it all up.
You're welcome. The directions aren't very good.
Hey I’m replacing my rear one, would I have to use Honda bond lien you do the front ?
Great video, do you have one on replacing the front spool valve. That's what I'm looking for. In case you were trying to waste 10 minutes of my time. I just jumped through it, so great effort on your part, but it only took one minute
Thanks. There are multiple parts. This video was part 1. I tried to be as thorough as possible for someone that hasn't done much mechanical work. Unfortunately, that adds extra time to the video.
You actually can just buy the gaskets now
Honda quit making them years ago. The ones on ebay and Amazon are fake Chinese replicas. I tried some from ebay that claimed to be made by Honda but they didn't fit properly.
I changed the gaskets Friday and the engine light came on Sunday. What will happen if you keep driving with the engine light on?
I have the same problem mate what I need to buy
I'm about to replace a bunch of gaskets on my j35z2 and I noticed on Rockauto that Mahle produces the 2 gaskets needed for this repair. That is, instead of getting the whole new spool valve assembly. Anyone want to give their thoughts on Mahle gaskets? I hear good things but haven't ever used them.
Thanks for the video! 🛠️🛠️😎😎
Thank you! Your video was very helpful.
Cool upload! Thanks for filming it. Nice can collection above the AC unit.
I used that napa vvt solenoid and did oil change. A half day later the engine light is back on showing the p3497 code.
Did you replace the solenoid on bank 2? If so, check the connection at the connectors. Make sure it's seated all the way in. Make sure the harness didn't get pinched or cut. Unplug the connectors and plug then back in. Is the oil level full? Did the code only show up after you replaced the solenoid?
Could you damage the catalytic converters if not careful when doing this job? Had this exact leak fixed and I hadn't gotten 2 minutes down the road and the van through its first ever check engine light. I had the code read and it was p0420 and p0430 saying hte cats were bad. Never had a problem until I took it into Honda. I have 160,000+ miles.
Highly doubtful, but anything is possible. Most likely due to the common problem of bad piston rings that plague these cars. The spark plugs become oil fouled, causing the engine to misfire. The converters are then overheated from raw fuel going down the exhaust during the misfire. I've seen many converters go bad on these cars.
@@HandymanTim Thanks for your opinion.
@@SuperSnakePlissken you're welcome
Thank You! Very informative video!
Thanks for the feedback
Hi, great video. Can you please provide the part number of the valve? I’m having this issue and will buy it from dealership.
By doing these fixed the problem with the P3497 code ?
Yes
It worked thanks, i did it myself ! Thank you
@@HandymanTim it fixed my problem for about a day. Now the engine light on again for the p3497 code.
@Jay was the code there before? If so, some models have a problem with the oil pump spring. It's another known issue from Honda.
