This is the coaches film of the 1975 3A Iowa Boys Basketball Championship game between the Lincoln Railsplitters of Des Moines and the Ames Little Cyclones. Lincoln capped off a 24-0 undefeated season by beating Ames 56 to 51. I had wanted to see this for a long time so sharing so all can see it. If anyone runs across the TV Broadcast of this game, please let me know.

They called it tight back then. And players were accustomed to playing with foul trouble. Look at box scores from Iowa’s Lute era tournament games and you will see plenty of games where 25-30 team fouls were called.

Moss wouldn't have blown by Lester if Ronnie was 100 percent. Lute had given Ronnie strict orders to let his man pass by and depend on help. He was also under strict orders to not penetrate to the rim. Unfortunately he found himself in the open floor in the Louisville game and instinct took over. And thanks to an "assist" from Roger Burkman Lester was down again.

I was SOPHMORE. I was the team manager. if you look at our pic i'm top row left. as far as rankings go other then those teams with Harrison barnes I think they are right behind them. I always got a kick of the fact that we were latterly the home team but wore the road uniforms. befoe us the only other tem to go 24 & 0 was storm lake back in 1968 ames did it the following year. also as far as taping homemade goes you have ti remember vcr's were not in vented yet. out teacher used a reel to reel vcr to tape the game. that's why it was in black & white. the only other thing that really touched me is that the whole city was behind us the last dm team to win a title was Roosevelt in 1965. one of al comito's teams. the one that really sticks out to me is the sunday before tournament I was a church. fr. acre who was a teacher out at dowling ( now if you were a southsider you either went to dowling or Lincoln ) mentioned that although he likes to pray for dowlings teams to succeed their is another team on the south side from dm Lincoln that will be playing & we should all pray for their success. THAT FLOORD ME. ALSO WHEN THAT JACKASS JIM ZABEL PICKED IA CITY HIGH TO WIN OVER US . needless to say the southside blew up who's switch board & Zabel was on his knees apologizing after the commercial.

Somebody in Ames High School taped the game with their Video Equipment it appears and that is Ames High told me when I called them.. I called the Iowa High School Athletic Association and they have actually recorded virtually none of the Boys basketball games un until the late 80s if I remember right. . They told me they assumed someone was taping the games but found out no one was. I found that quite hard to below but they advised me of this. The girls games have been taped going back for many many years. Very strange. So you were on that great team. What year were you? Were you a senior by chance? When I talked to Coach Carle he said the team was so good, most of the players got a horrible case of the flu, could really practice much and still won the State Title. How you rate that time as one of the all time Iowa Great Boys Basketball teams? Any insights on that team you would care to share? Coach Carle was quite the coach. I went to Lincoln a year or so after he had retired. I heard the stories of how good the Lincoln Boys teams were under him. What a coach.
