    when the pressure in pipe is greater than that of the static head from reservoir, the water flows out of the pipe, which is indicated by the -ve velocity; does that means there is a flow separation/creation of vacuum takes place at the location of valve? kindly explain.

    Great intro. I am a student and I was wondering, why aren't the maximum upsurge and minimum down surge at the surge tank (Z max and Zmin) not taken wrt to water level at surge tank after subtracting the head loss till surge tank including orifice losses water level at the reservoir? 😅😅😅

    Something don't seem right with that equation. What about the mass of the fluid screaming down the pipe when it stops against a fast Acting valve. It will be like a freight train plowing thru a vw bug compared to this equation. Yes, no?

    What about the negative pressure wave. And how to calculate it's velocity?

    • @EngineeringTrainer
      @EngineeringTrainer ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, As long as cavitation doesn't occur as part of the negative pressure, the negative pressure wave (expansion wave) behaves similarly as positive pressure waves (compression waves). Except for the minus sign of course.

    typical vibrations are generated by the fluid (von karman vortices), you have to change mainly only some geometry to fix it

    What about pressure variation at the centre of the pipe

    • @EngineeringTrainer
      @EngineeringTrainer ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tony, thanks for asking. This approach presented here considers the pipe as a 1-dimensional element and assumed the pressure is constant over the entire cross-sectional inner area of the pipe.

    great! is there a minimum required length of SBC to supported? or just support a SBC regardless of the length?

    • @neilparkinson119
      @neilparkinson119 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment. The answer depends on the type of SBC. For simple cantilevered SBCs like the ones I showed in the presentation, the overall length should be minimised to reduce the risk. However for SBC which connect to a fixed point or which connect between 2 different main lines, the overall length must be ‘not less than a minimum allowable length’ as specified in the EI Guidelines. This length depends on the SBC branch diameter and the type of welded fitting e.g. Weldolet. Let me know if this answers your question. Regards, Neil
