The Cauldron Mildura
Australia
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 26 ก.ค. 2020
THE CAULDRON a Mildura based traditional style folk-group featuring Kathy Dubois, Glenda Underhill and Mike Oates.
The Cauldron’s repertoire is sometimes familiar, and other times obscure.
Instruments include harp, concertina, guitar, harmonica, whistle and bodhran.
The one consistent aspect of The Cauldron is that the music is always honored!

The Cauldron - The Coolin (trad) & The Snowy Path (Mark Kelly)
The air, The Coolin (An Chúilfhionn) is an ancient Irish lament, probably pre- seventeenth century, known to be in the repertoire of harper Thomas Connellan (mid-1600's), and later it was regularly played by Cornelius Lyons who in turn taught it to Dennis O'Hempsey. The Cauldron learned it from the playing of Seamus Tansey. The lively slip-jig, The Snowy Path is a much more recent addition to the Irish music collection; composed by Mark Kelly from the group Altan.

The Cauldron. The Blarney Song (Mike Oates)/Turn the Bellows (Traditional)
มุมมอง 1.3K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
An original, composed as a tribute by Mike, who got a good old-fashioned Aussie welcome from his new mates down here in Aussieland: (a top place). The song is followed by a lively Kerry slide to conclude. Ps Blarney is the Irish equivalent of verbal BS.
The Cauldron - A Song for Ireland (Phil & June Colclough)

This worthy tribute to the beautiful Isle was composed by the Colcloughs in the 1970s, and was recorded initially by Dick Gaughan. The Cauldron learned it from the singing of Mary Black. The section of melody used in the break is called The Valley of Sliabh Na mBan.
The Cauldron - Possumland (Henry Lawson/Martyn Wyndham-Read/Ronnie Hazlehurst)
มุมมอง 95011 หลายเดือนก่อน
The combined mastery of Henry Lawson, Australia's finest poet, and the great English folk-singer, guitarist and composer, Martyn Wyndham-Read are responsible for this musical gem. Henry wrote the initial verse while travelling the bush on his way to Burke NSW. Martyn composed the melody and the other three verses later from memories of working on a sheep-station near Tintinara S.A. Ronnie Hazel...
The Cauldron - Caledonia (Dougie MacLean)
มุมมอง 1.5Kปีที่แล้ว
The Cauldron's simple harp/guitar/harmonica, plus Kathy's vocals arrangement of a Dougie MacLean classic. It is a beautifully composed, nostalgic offering by Dougie, concerning his native Scotland, and the home-sickness that prompted to compose it. He tells it like no other. No wonder, it is a special place.
The Cauldron - The Deil's Awa wi' Exciseman (R. Burns)/The Cock 'O the North (Trad.)
มุมมอง 837ปีที่แล้ว
The song is a Robbie Burns ironic skit on the exciseman (taxman); ironic, as he himself was an exciseman himself for a while during his colourful career, sung by our harper, Glenda. The tune started out as the march of the Gordon Highland Clan pipers; also known as 'Jumping Joan' or 'Chase me Charlie'. Duke Alexander Gordon the 4th, was known as the Cock of the North. Recorded by Chris Rogers f...

Lyrics composed by Fred Weatherly of Somerset(1910) leading up to W.W.1; the words say it all. The melody is attributed to fiddler Jimmy McCurry of Limavady, a busker at fairs and markets around Co. Derry. It is believed it was inspired by the airs of Irish harper Dennis O'Hamsaigh 1695-1807 of the same district. The air was collected by Jane Ross and published by George Petrie in Dublin 1855. ...

The Cauldron - Mull of the Mountains (Trad).& Road to the Isles (John McLellan)

The Cauldron - O'Carolan's Draught / Receipt for Drinking
มุมมอง 3.4Kปีที่แล้ว
A couple of O'Carolan harp tunes believed to be about whiskey. Not much appears to be known about the Draught. Regarding the Receipt (aka as Dr. John Stafford), there is more documentation. It is noted that O'Carolan feeling poorly and was instructed by his friend and physician, Dr. Stafford to abstain from the drink, but as his condition worsened, to O'Carolan's delight, Dr. Stafford wrote for...

Thank you Liz and Roger, You are our new heroes. Sadly the song writer Johnny Duhan past away very recently. He left us all with a good legacy, and will be remembered
A beautiful rendition of a very popular ballad especially here on the east coast as John Connelly comes from Grimsby
Great folk song ,very good performance. Ireland and Britain is still suffering from this on going problem ,politicians not helping very sad situation. I guess we are lucky to have a roof over our heads.
Thank you Liz and Roger, we really appreciate your support for our song, and more especially for the plight of so many all over the globe.
Like this a lot ,its hard to be apart ,Very good cover ,We have had the same problems although in our case the phone helped Due to the difference in the price of property, We had to move North to retire ,Both of our familys were still in the South ,When we were younger we could still travel to each other. This changed as we got older .Only 600 miles may as well have been further. This was the same for thousands of immigrants and very hard to deal with.
We are pleased that you enjoy this song. It is a tear-jerker but it is reality also. Thank you for supporting us.
Thank you both. As you probably can guess, we love O'Carolan's music. Sadly, so much of the other travelling blind harper's music of the period is lost forever; not recorded or written down, and would have probably been of similar quality.
Beautiful pure magic. All your instruments blend lovely together. We will have to revive Blind Mary.
Thank you both. The old airs are a joy to play, and I suppose it is up to us committed folk to keep them alive and vibrant. Best wishes as always.
Superb .Eŕin go bragh. Love the women of ireland.
Thank yo both, we are heartened by your comments. Thank you.
Good song ,lovely . A very well written song on a very sensitive but sadly true subject of the suffering and abuse of children the world over. Well sung and a sensitive performance
