If you have hard water this device is useless. The heavy sediment sits on the tank bottom. The drain valve sits above the tank bottom ~2 inches. Only the floaters work their way to the drain valve, and clog it. How do I know? I stuck a borescope down the top anode hole and could see the 1-1.5" of sediment on the tank bottom. Solution- completely drain the tank. May take several hours. Remove the original drain valve. Using a shop vac with the hose reduced to fit in the drain hole suck out as best you can the sediment. Replace the drain valve which has a pea size drain hole with a 3/4" full port ball valve. The murky water you saw in the buckets was just the water washing the sediment, but leaving the sediment in the tank. If you have hard water you should see oatmeal looking sediment in your catch bucket if the process is effective. And these are basic instructions assuming you know about shutting off the gas, disconnecting power, and basic plumbing.

You have to shut the valve at the top of the water heater off not just the water supply. You’re just forcing air up to your pipes to your open valves and therefore not creating any pressure in the tank. You’ve gotta build a pressure within the tank so that forces the water outwith the sediment.

What happened to the original pergola thing you had?

Hired 4 to assemble AND read the instructions ? Have you no shame ? Made the mistake a number of years ago and Pam and I put an all metal one. It called for 6 people to lift the roof into place. We assembled the uprights then built the roof in place. Easy Peasey . However even though the reviews said it withheld strong winds and salt air it DID NOT. The new 1 is Cedar from Ontario, shipped to China and then shipped back. It went together slick and our Hot Tub sits nicely under it. Yours looks quite nice and I'm sure the dogs will love it on the hot or rainy days too. Hoping you have a great trip coming up Friday. P n D
