Patio garden tour with allium bulbs
The patio caught my eye on the morning that I recorded this, and so I decided to do an impromptu video of this garden directly around the patio unweeded and unmulched. The alliums looked so elegant and so I wanted to capture them. Next year I hope to have many more alliums here.

Tips for planting bagged store roses ( beginner's guide to bare root roses)
มุมมอง 3.8K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
This year I’m replacing one of my Eden roses with a bagged store rose. This is one part of your beginner's guide to bare root roses. These are essentially are root roses. These roses can be a great economical option but only if you start out picking the best of them at the right time. Otherwise, they can be a huge waste of money as they can have high failure rate. If the pretty pictures on thes...

    Vanessa, what a lovely tour of this space. Thank you so much for sharing it. I love your heart chairs. They are the sweetest! Also, it is so clever to use the plate rack as a trellis 🙌🏼. I have Polka and it is currently my favorite rose!

    I bought Eden climber in 2/2024 at Lowe’s exact like yours. Now, 2 months later, it has several buds already.so exciting!!

    beautifully explained.. I got a couple of true bloom bagged roses recently from Costco that had leaves and planted them in my front yard... I guess I made the mistake of planting them while it was still cold outside. :( They've been out there for a couple weeks now.. the stems are green but I can see that the plant is struggling. I hope the weather warms up so that they have some chance to bounce back.

      Planting it outside was the best decision. I say just keep an eye on it and remember to keep it nicely hydrated! Maybe feed it a little natural compost for a little boost ❤️

    I wouldn’t say those bagged bare root roses have high failure rates. I’ve bought many bagged bare root roses, probably around 20, and have none die. What I do is after removing the rose from the bag and pine shavings, I soak the roots of the rose in a bucket of water in a shaded area for a few hours. Then after planting, you’re supposed to water it every few days if it doesn’t rain, until it establishes itself. Around a few weeks. Then you can reduce the watering. I plant mine with the graft above ground since I live in a warmer area. But I’ve heard people say that cold areas should plant the graft union under the soil.

    How long did it take your Eden rose to get to a size to cover your arbor....how old is your rose on the arbor

    • @boyerco4909
      @boyerco4909 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In the video, The rose on the arbor is 3 years old. I planted it in the spring of 2020 as a potted plant. It was likely a first year potted plant from bare root. Most of those picture were taken in 2023. By 2022, it was a little less than halfway up the arbor. Last year (2023) it was about 3/4th of the way up the arbor but then the one on the left died due to septic work nearby that nicked both of their roots a lots. That couple with a drought was a perfect storm that killed it. The one on the right almost died. This is all to say that I expect it will be another few years before I see them as big as they once were.

      It’s all about proper rose care. I bought my earth angel last year and it’s about the size of this lady’s rose. Remember, granular/liquid fertilizer, or organic ones if able, specifically cow manure. Bonus advice you can also fertilize with alfalfa or bone meal. Those two will be loved by your plants. Don’t forget to often water your roses They become really thirsty especially on hot climates. I was forgetting something extremely important, always plant your roses where they’ll receive 6hrs of sun. I hope this helps 😊

    My Eden climber did not flower on the 1st year

    • @boyerco4909
      @boyerco4909 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I expect it will. My experience with once blooming roses, which Eden essentially is, is that they tend to miss their window to bloom in the early spring if planted barefoot in late winter. Perhaps because they don’t get rooted and established in time? Maybe! But it should be nice and rooted now that’s it been in the ground a year and ready to give you a show this spring.

      I bet it will. Despite many people calling climbing Eden a repeat bloomer. It is not. It is a once bloomer for like a month in early spring. The confusion is because it it does shoot out a few random blooms here and there throughout the rest of the season but nothing substantial. I imagine that one reason yours didn’t bloom first year is because by the time it got going, it had missed the ideal time in the early spring for it to send out that wonderful flush of blooms.

    Wonderful video. One caveat: if you're on a septic system, this much bleach will kill the bacteria in the septic tank. This is NOT GOOD. So doing this process outside in a bin is preferable. Then find somewhere away from the system to dump the water. Then dilute the area with a lot of water. Also, you could go to the laundromat.

    • @boyerco4909
      @boyerco4909 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. You don’t have to bleach first to be able to dye. They are two separate processes to fill two different needs.

    YOU are totally right!!!! Drop Cloth is the BEST kept secret... I am getting ready to rehoposter my RV Couch... and Capitain's Chairs too!! Also make the Curtains ... Happy Happy Happy.... NOW... let me give you a SECRET.... I costumed painted my Vintage Tiny Travel Trailer... Could NOT find the right color (a TRUE Turquoise)... so I thought I'll take T-Towels 100% cotton (Walmart) Cheap... and DYE them with the diluted HOUSE Paint (Walmart) and if it works ... GREAT ... if not... I learned something new. I put the Cotton (white) T-Towel in a huge bucket, with the diluted EXTERIOR Walmart House Paint I had costumed made... 8 parts water 1 part paint... Let the T-towel set in the mixture for hours (forgot about it)... Took it out, beautiful color, now will it "run" out when I rinsed it? NO it was really pretty... I then put fabric softener in the bucket with water, lots of FABRIC Softener (after cleaning it out).... Let it soak... Rinsed the fabric softener out... BEAUTIFUL... so soft. I plan to now do the same thing to my Drop Cloth... YEA NOTE: Drop Cloth is off colored... you can NOT get a TRUE Color unless you Bleach it WHITE First... or... do NOT DYE it too dark... the off colored of the cotton fabric drop cloth will make your dye darker than you'll expect .... Keep this in mind. Thank you for your great video...

I also used the scraps to make pillow covers. We love it! I am looking forward to using drop cloths in our new home. (later this year)

    How do you dry the cloth once its bleached and washed? Dryer or line dry?

    • @Mishluvdabeach
      @Mishluvdabeach 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends. If you want to be able to dry your slipcover, versus hanging it to dry, be sure to dry the drop cloth in the dryer BEFORE you make your slipcover. I'd wash and dry it 2-3 times just to be sure the fabric fully "pre-shrunk". I'd also dry the dropcloth on "high". Everyone recommends taking 100% cotton slipcovers out of the dryer while they are still somewhat damp, to avoid wrinkling.
