River Kayak Camping: Fun Trip, HORRIBLE Video
In late August, 2024, I went on a kayak camping trip down the Scioto River in Central Ohio. The total trip was 7 miles, 2.5 on day one, and 5.5 on day 2. I put in at the north end of Scioto Grove Metro Park and took out at the Commercial Point takeout. I stayed at campsite #5 at the metro park. My kayak is the Ascend H10. I camped in the OneTigris Backwoods Bungalow tent. I pitched it with 2 trekking poles and my kayak paddle. I had a nice campfire and dinner was a Peak Refuel meal: MeatEater American BBQ Buffalo Mac and Cheese. Delicious! In the morning I had a Mountain House meal: Biscuits and Gravy. Favorite dehydrated breakfast! Coffee was on the esbit solid fuel stove. Then back in the river and paddling to the takeout. I only caught one fish: a spotted bass at the confluence of the Scioto River and Big Walnut Creek.
Why do I say this video was "horrible?" Well, although the trip was fun the footage was very tough for me to stitch into a video. I wore my GoPro on my head mount and that causes the footage of paddling and fishing to be very shaky. As noted above I only caught one fish. I hoped for the fishing to be a feature of the video, but no luck there. The river corridor is pretty, but very one-note in terms of scenery. Finally, I had several moments of ineptitude that ended up being a feature of the footage. So again, that's why I say the trip was fun but the video sucks. For these reasons I sat on this footage for over 3 months, trying to work it into a framework that made sense. The result is what you see here.
Thanks for watching!

มุมมอง 96128 วันที่ผ่านมา
In early November, 2024, I camped at a HipCamp spot in central southern Ohio. I slept in my 2021 Subaru Outback. I had a campfire and cooked BBQ bacon cheddar burgers and drank some beers. In the morning I went for a short hike to a nearby creek, then cooked a SPAM, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich. I made coffee on a butane camp stove in a percolator. Thanks for watching!
Pond Hopping with My Son: Chasing Bass and Sunfish
มุมมอง 69หลายเดือนก่อน
In late October, 2024, I took my son fishing at 3 different ponds. We caught a nice largemouth bass on a Whopper Plopper 90 topwater lure, and then caught loads of sunfish (bluegill and pumpkinseed) on red worms and Gulp Minnows/Sparkle Nibbles. We had a great time!

In late October, 2024, I went for a one night, solo, weeknight campout at Alum Creek State Park. I arrived, set up my chair and table, then got my kayak in the lake to do some fishing. I brought a bass rod and an ultralight rod. I didn't have any luck with the bass, but did manage to catch 6 or 7 bluegill and a few yellow perch on the ultralight rod. I used 1/64 oz. Trout Magnet jig heads, 1 in...

In late October, 2024, I fished one of my favorite creeks: Alum Creek in Central Ohio. I caught six species, including creek chub (3), green sunfish (6), greengill hybrid (1), largemouth bass (4), bluegill (4), and smallmouth bass (2) for a total of 20 fish. I was fishing with an ultralight rod and 2 lb monofilament line. The lure I used was a 1/32 oz. Johnson Original Beetle Spin with a black/...

In late August, 2024, I set out on a Wednesday night during my workweek to camp at a HipCamp near Johnstown, Ohio. This was my first camping trip sleeping in my new (to me) 2021 Subaru Outback. I got to the spot, set up a tarp, found/processed firewood, cooked over the campfire, and relaxed in the woods. It rained overnight. In the morning I made coffee and oatmeal and then packed up and headed...
42 Fish, 7 Species, and 1 Sprained Ankle: Ultralight Creek Fishing
มุมมอง 6573 หลายเดือนก่อน
In early August, 2024, I waded Alum Creek in Westerville, Ohio. I covered about 3/4 mile of the water before rolling my ankle in the creek and calling it a day. (Although I did catch one more fish post-ankle sprain! Hooray!). I fished with an ultralight rod and one of my favorite creek lures: the 1/32 oz beetle spin. I caught seven species on this trip: bluegill, green sunfish, bluegill x green...

In mid-July, 2024, I waded a river in Central Ohio with an ultralight rod. I was trying to catch as many species as I could, but also wanted to explore a specific spot (located on Google Maps) that I thought would hold smallmouth bass. I ended up catching 8 species total! I caught smallmouth, largemouth, and rock bass. I also caught a creek chub. I caught bluegill, green sunfish, "green gill" h...

In mid-July, 2024, I did an urban hike through Clintonville, an area of Columbus, Ohio. I hiked through Glen Echo Ravine, visiting the "Ten Pin" area as well as the "Bird Bridge" and the "Gates of Hell" (also know as the "Portal to Hell" or the "Blood Bowl"). I then hiked south into Old North Columbus and played some games (and enjoyed a beer) at Old North Arcade. Thereafter I went west down to...

I don’t know man I thought it was a pretty good vid! Made me subscribe too, keep up the good work!
Thanks man, and thanks for watching!
I did my Christmas video there last December . Goose droppings everywhere. 55 when I got there. We had torrential rains, and it dropped 25 degrees overnight. We got through it, but I didn't care for the campground. They were catching a lot of fish, though.
Yeah, the geese are a menace. I love the location of the campground right on the lake, but otherwise I agree, not a fan of the campground itself. Sites are really close together and right on the road. We did catch a good number of fish there on a late spring trip!
Why don’t you use that greeny as you call it for bait and catch a large mouth?
Next time!
Enough!!!!!
Never!!!!!
Where exactly was the campsite?
Hey, it’s site 5 at Scioto Grove Metro Park south of Columbus. 👍
His name should be donut lord instead of king
Donut King felt right for his vibe-he’s more about ruling the donut realm than just lording over it!
I like the sad music when the paddle floats away 😂 and the sunscreen gives the footage a dreamy quality. It was a fun video and glad you had a good time.
Hahaha thank you!!
Love that campsite! It wouldn't be as fun without the hiccups for sure, but another great video, Jay!
Agreed, great site! Thank you!!
You have given me a new respect for all your efforts, lol. We still enjoy the adventures!
Hahaha glad to hear it!!
Got me hungry. Great video
Haha thanks for watching!
I want one of those culvert pipes. Where did you get a short piece
Hey, thanks for commenting. I don’t own the land (it’s a HipCamp spot), so I’m not sure how they went about getting the pipe. Good luck in your search!
Your camp out food always makes me hungry!! Nice video!
Thanks for watching!
Only 2 slices of bacon? SHAME ON YOU, JAY!
I don't know what I was THINKING!
Nice Video.❤
Thanks for watching!
I always have trouble with my Villey table staying together. One can't beat fatwood for making a fire
That's interesting re: the table. I haven't had issues with this one staying together, but perhaps that will develop over time with further use. I hope not! And yes, fatwood reigns supreme!
That was a nice spot at the creek, good food, and a nice trip out, and a hot coffee to warm up.👍
It was a fun time! Thanks for watching!
Fairly quick trip, but enjoyed. Kind of enjoy the commentary too though. Can't wait for the next one, thank ya! 😀
Thanks for watching and for the feedback! More commentary to come! 😂
Dude, everything Dogfish makes is absolute money!
Agreed!!
Nice video guys!
Thanks!
What was the bird identifier app you used ? I heard the creepiest sound I ever heard
Hi! It’s Merlin Bird ID. 👍
@JayGoesOutside thanks
Cool channel and videos bro! I’ll subscribe for sure I love creek and river fishing
Thanks man, and ditto! 👏🏻
Nice work man. Awesome fish to catch on an ultralight. Thanks for sharing liked and subbed. Stay safe and connected bro.
Thanks for watching! Your channel looks awesome! 👏🏻
@ thanks for stopping by too!
Sweet video, love beetle spins haha ,this kinda fishing will never get old 🤘🏼
You got that right!
Jay, what site at alum creek is that? Like the access from the site to the water.
It’s L17. Great spot!
Never seen the Pumpkin Seed before. Those are kool. Always like to see something new.
Very cool looking fish!
Enjoyed the video. Love the autumn colors. Don't really see that down in Florida. New subscriber from my channel to yours!
Thanks for watching! Yes, the autumn colors are one of the best things about living up North. Your channel looks awesome!
"oh hey that kinda looks like three creeks" yup alum creek. thanks for the fun video! we live down in carroll. hey neighbor
Haha yup! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Good video I still do this when I wanna be alone and just catch something and relax
Yes, absolutely! I do this when I want some low key, relaxing, fun fishing 👍
Glad to have found a fellow Central Ohio Angler! Looking forward to checking out more of your vids, great catches.
Thanks for watching and for the sub! I'm glad you found me!
I love the tarp car camp set up gives me some ideas. Thank you.
Awesome! I’m really enjoying the setup 👍
I can’t really tell is that tarp a canvas?
It’s polyester. It’s the OneTigris Bulwark tarp. 12.8 x 9.5 feet.
@@JayGoesOutside it’s probably pretty light weight
1084 grams / 38 ounces. Not bad for the size of the tarp and number of tie out points.
Рубить дрова на земле - это топ! От папы за такое бы по голове получил.
😂😂😂 Fair enough!
Nicely done sir! Great looking setup. Solid "aaaahhhhhh" lol. Keep the videos coming brother.
Hahaha thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it!
Nice video. Just a FYI..........You might want to check recommendations for maximum pan size used on butane stoves. Large pans may trap heat and get butane canisters too hot possibly causing explosion.
Good info - I’ll check it out!
Those cows had me rolling. And I worried I was the only person talking to animals, lol.
Haha, you’re definitely not the only one!
I randomly came across this video and enjoyed watching it, love the relaxing content 😌
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Nice video mate, is that a private land or blm?
Thanks! It’s a HipCamp spot, so private land you can reserve 👍👍
@@JayGoesOutside thank you very much.
@@JayGoesOutsidehello, how much you have to pay for this spot?thanks
$32 for one night.
Outstanding presentation my friend! Shots are great, forest looks so enchanting!
Thank you, it was a beautiful spot!
Nice to get out relax, cook and make a fire, thanks for taking us along👍
Absolutely! Thanks for watching!
Man I really need to check out hipcamp. Great video Jay!
Definitely! Lots of great spots to be found!
@@JayGoesOutside As far as the philly - My favorite is beef, pepperoni, and cheezwiz (or sub with kraft singles). You can thank me later. 👌
Now I’ve got to try it!!
Nice day on the water! I’m originally from Central Ohio… now live in Central PA. New Sub!
Thanks for watching and subbing! Checking out your channel now - looks great!
@@JayGoesOutside Thanks! I appreciate it. Looking forward to seeing more of your content.
Hey brother, im also located in mid Ohio. Jus got a kayak and have been looking for some good places like this. Can I get the location?
Hey, thanks for watching! Yes -- this is Alum Creek. I started at Shrock Rd. and waded north to around the Whipple Truss bridge. Good luck!
I like how you put the tarp over the Suby like that, I will have to try that with my Cayenne next weekend!
It worked well! Thanks for watching!
Great video, Jay!
Thank you, and thanks for watching!
I remember when redneck used to be able to camp without using a hot tent they just needed a pair of pants and a pair of boots
I loved it!! I'm excited to try my Rogue for some weekend camping coming up! 😊
Hope you enjoy it!
💯👏👏👏top
How's the ankle??
Still having some pain, but otherwise much better!
Awesome fishing man
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Why are u batoning wood with a knife your car is only 10 feet away u should have an axe or hatchet your not backpacking so weights not an issue
Hey, thanks for commenting. I tend to split kindling with a knife just out of habit since it’s the way I learned to do it. But you’re right. An ax or hatchet is a better tool for the job. 👍
What rod are you using? I recently got into ultra light fishing
It’s a Bass Pro Shops Micro Lite graphite rod, 6 foot, ultralight, fast action. 2-piece. Runs $60. Ultralight is the best! Thanks for watching!
