When I was a teen I had a best friend whom I didn't knew I was in love with and I also didn't knew he felt the same. He confessed one day in a note but I was naive so I ignored it thinking it was a bad joke by someone. Then we graduated and we part ways. Same here. For me this song isn't so much about love, but more about nostalgia and missed opportunities. I mean, the consequences of those steps that we didn't take in the past are a complete mystery. And sometimes, when I think about these opportunities that I've missed, I dream about how things might have been in some alternative reality where I haven't missed them. But it's all a dream now, these people are gone from your life and so did these opportunities.
