    Thank you for putting this series together. Looking forward to future lessons. Your garlic story (around the 10 minute mark) brought a smile because it reminded me of the few occasions in times past when my wife and I had to rush straight from working on a herd of goats (or sometimes sheep) in our veterinary practice to the church building in order to teach at mid-week service/bible study. Bottom line is -- goats stink and on those days, so did we!! Even though we wore protective coveralls and boot covers during the call, attempted to thoroughly wash up afterwards and even changed our clothes prior to assuming the pulpit, we would still see the wrinkled noses and strange looks of the congregants in the first few rows, especially if one of us got animated and started sweating or walking around on the platform. Our prayer and hope was always, but particularly on those days, that despite the "scent of the barnyard" being on us and, in a very real sense, quite hard to get rid of, hopefully the "light of the Holy Spirit" within overshadowed and the message the scriptures came through loud and clear! As you stated, we always prayed the voice of the Master we had the privilege of teaching on, would be much louder than musky scent of the earthy goats we had been exposed to.

    I'll help you out. I finished this video. And I'm like Arminian and believe people can fail salvation from this scripture I found Galatians 5:19-21 that when sinning that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians was Paul's teachings, proves it can fail eternal salvation. Grandpa believed he couldn't go to Hell, and Arminians believe he could. I'm against suicide. I was depressed also to suicidal. I almost did suicide as a 5-Point Calvinist. And these scriptures got me more hope. I became more Arminian now from these scriptures I posted on here. I believe people can fail salvation. Loving God is wanting to be useful for him much. What if a person could do that much of his time? And I enjoy working from this. People who enjoy working. When it's more likely to be boring to non-Christians. Mark 9:33-35 New American Standard Bible 1995 33 They came to Capernaum; and when He [a]was in the house, He began to question them, “What were you discussing on the way?” 34 But they kept silent, for on the way they had discussed with one another which of them was the greatest. 35 Sitting down, He called the twelve and *said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, [b]he shall be last of all and servant of all.” . This is for Christian world domination. Why to raise kids Christians. God Son Jesus said similarly to whoever is useful the most is the best merited of the apostles. Useful merit for eternal rewards and competition with other Christians. With God Son Lord Jesus Christ faith teaching, people will want to be useful for the kingdom of Heaven, which usefulness happens on Earth and if any other place. We need to help this world as much as we can! This text could motivate, supposed to be Christian people, to do all types of usefulness. Chores, volunteering, grade school, high school, college, and work. Good people, this world needs them.

    I say Amen to what you're saying about getting out and doing the work of Jesus in your community. I was a minister for 40 years or 30 years sorry and I am sorry to say that I did not do enough of going out into the community to do the work of Our Lord. I hope that you and your church can do more of that in your community.

    I like listening to you two. It makes me miss class together. Wow this subject has been HUGE these past few weeks. Mainly can we show love compassion and care to the LGBTQ community without others feeling we have somehow compromised our faith? To feel led by the Holy Spirit to show love to others and yet rejected by the church community is in such conflict right now 😢 God guide us.

    This is good. I like how you pinpoint that our identity should be in Christ and not in our nation. This is never spoken about in church for fear of sounding “unpatriotic.” I also found myself wondering if the early American settlers saw the blue dot in the native peoples of this country. If not what was missing from their theology?

    • @fmcsc
      @fmcsc ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great observation. You're really hitting on the themes of this series: that the Gospel, as articulated in the life and works of Jesus, is really more Descriptive than Prescriptive and more Relational than Propositional. Manifest Destiny was an ideology (I'd say theology) that was fundamentally propositional and prescriptive and didn't make room for relational engagement.

    How do Wesleyan scripture, tradition & reason differ from faith & reason in Roman Catholicism, which also sees traditoon as authoritative?

    • @fmcsc
      @fmcsc ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't forget, it's a quadrilateral! In addition to scripture, tradition, and reason you must include experience. Faith (as opposed to intellectual assent) comes from experiencing the living God, which has the potential to create very real tension with what we hold to be authoritative. Each component of the quadrilateral is a balance against the human desire to put God or the work of the Church in a box.

    As a retired United Methodist minister I am sorry that I did not take a deeper look into the Free Methodist Church. As I understand more about it today it appears to me that this would be the church that I would have loved to have been a part of to have been a minister in.

      We like to say we have good bones. Having a hermeneutic that allows for interaction with both our community and the voice of the Holy Spirit gives us an important starting place to grow and experience the living God.
