It's better to teach in a business distract thats dead after hours bc its built like mini cities if the business is huge. Stop signs, little lanes to practice turning and lots of parking. Basic controls is enough to get the basics but practice makes perfect.

We started in a parking lot to learn basic controls. 2nd step is calm neighborhood streets before going into traffic

You should teach him the basics in a nice big mall parking lot not on the streets.
