Constantly Refining The Bricklink Store - LEGO Bricklink Vlog #69
- - - Yes storage can add up in cost, you made me wonder how much I've spent in the last two years and it work out to be almost $6K ! \(゚ー゚\) And the office supplies like letters, labels, bubble wrap etc. works out to be about as much too ! I add more storage every three months or so and now my numbering system is all over the place:) Luckily I can remember ruffly where things are plus I sort by colour so most of the time I don't even look at the draw number when picking ㄟ( ▔, ▔ )ㄏ
@@Guy.Fleegman I’ve never worked out the costs but do account for it month by month. I tend to remember where frequently picked parts are but with more lots that gets harder.
@@YellowBrickRoadLego - - Yeah, because I sort by colour I waste a fair bit of time reorganizing so its hard to remember.
Nice store. I have so many bins due to limited space. Lots of different lots but so time consuming to pick an order.
@@GrumpyOldBricks so are you storing lots together like I do to maximise space usage?
@@YellowBrickRoadLego i have started to do more of it. Trying to find a balance between multiple lots and not over filling the drawers.
Great video, thank you!
@@CHOPZ-Bricks thanks 🙏
As someone who is about to drastically expand his BL store in 2025- this is a godsend and perfectly timed. Have a like- this is being saved for me to watch many times in the future 🎉
Perfect timing!! Best of luck with the store expansion, glad I can help in a little way.
Interesting vlog ❤
@@martazedbricks thanks for watching.
Please advise - considering that most lego parts sell for less than a dollar each, does the drawers and shelves put you at a net deficit at the start, and how long have you run the store till you achieve net overall profit considering the initial costs. Do you think the purchase of store units justifies itself only once you reach a certain amount of inventory and lots? Awesome Vlog as usual.
@@CavenH-b6f there is plenty of initial costs - storage, packaging, sorting cups, labels… the list goes on. The trick is to build within your means and buy what you need but don’t go mad. Once you are up and running profits balance out the expense but every business has capital expenditure. You could watch the latest store performance video for some more details on expenses versus revenue/profit.
@@YellowBrickRoadLego Interesting.. I saw some fairly big bricklink stores in Australia insisting on 'green and recycled' packaging. Guess that's one way to cut those expenses.
@ interesting indeed. Sadly we don’t have access to the same sustainable packaging as European stores do!
I had a problem with my store where I had to close and inventorying the whole thing due to missing parts and also unlisted inventory being in my active inventory. Right when I opened back up, I still had to refund someone $1.40 on a brand new order. do I give up?
@@danielle_wheels mistakes happen. If you’ve done an entire audit then you’d imagine the inventory is 99% right. But always worth doing a few spot checks when picking an order and time allows.
First great video
Your first or are the others I made junk 🤣
@YellowBrickRoadLego Yes it's maybe the time zone also
Great video. Thank you for sharing. I have a question if I may. When someone says they have however many pieces with 1k lots or 2k lots. What does that mean when people say lots?
@@duncanmacleod2953 lots are classed as individual part types (ie. 2x2 bricks in each different colour - each colour is a different lot). The theory is that the more lots you have the more wanted lists you will potentially show up in when someone is buying.
@@YellowBrickRoadLego That's awesome! Thank you for getting back to me. I really appreciate it.
Welcome back! Happy New Year to you and the family. Let's hope 2025 is a good one!
And to you Steve!
. .. . . . Yeah, "24:45" \(゚ー゚\) - I have never offered the 250-500g letter size as it is sooo time consuming to try to pack under the 20mm thickness max size... Most customers don't understand how much harder it is, plus if they just pay a few dollars more they (and us) get tracking. .. .
Agreed… the time!!!!!! Although some sellers do love that aspect of packing orders. Just not me. 🤣
Cool to see what the orders are. As dont always get to see that in other bricklink sellers videos. Maybe not all the time as people may find it boring. But good to show in some vlogs. Also the part out videos are amazing helped me out alot
@@doctordestiny6177 thanks for watching! Plenty more of those to come In 2025.
Hi Richie, been watching your channel for a couple of months now. Quite like the part-out vids, so please don't give up on them. Yes, to showing your face - maybe you could give a brief biog, which I guess might have included some experience in advertising or graphic design? Maybe you could also film some of the sunny weather there to brighten up us Brits in the homeland - it's rained all night and day so far where I am and much of the country woke up to thick snow this morning! Where are you originally from by the way (guessing somewhere between Liverpool and Manchester)?

Always use cardboard to separate my drawers into more compartments as rarely get enough or even any dividers!
Yeah! Just got to hunt around for some options. The hardware store has some sheet plastic I could cut down.
Like i said to Pops Block Shop, some stores should have a 3rd option next to new & used called "chew toy"... Not that any buyer wants that but just so some of these store owners can see how ridiculous they r for uploading certain low value parts with teeth marks that make the Gran Canyon jealous 😂
@@hoarder66 I guess I have been lucky so far not to receive anything too bad but yeah seems it’s a bit subjective!
70% used, 30% new I have over a million parts now which has taken 4 years to inventory.
@@Welshdevilfish 1m!!! Huge. Great stuff.
I've been doing both. More new than used, but I stumble on the odd gem of used on Facebook and can't resist.
@@GrumpyOldBricks the addiction is real!!!
I have been selling mostly new, but I have tried to get into the used as well to give my storm more depth and also help with the growth at the same time but how do you help with finding all the fake Lego in the pile of used you get?
That's really something that comes with experience - the colour, the feel of fake bricks, the noise they make are the skills you develop - beyond that it's about looking closely at the branding - especially with Minifig parts.
