Blake's 7 - The Liberator Music Suite - Series C (1980)
A suite of music cues, composed by Dudley Simpson, to accompany the Liberator in the third season of the BBC science fiction series Blake's 7 from 1980. This video is a revised upload due to a blocked section from 'Moloch' - I hope this edition gets the all clear!
The third season of Blake's 7 - with a number of episodes placing greater emphasis on the main characters' interpersonal relationships and the legend of Blake's ship as a beacon of hope now secured - resulted in some of Simpson's most romantic and glorious cues for the series and that is conveyed frequently in the scoring of the Liberator, especially on 'Harvest of Kairos', 'City at the Edge of the World' and, above all, 'Children of Auron'. All of that would culminate, however, with the ship's ultimate fate in the season finale and Simpson ensures that the closing moments encapsulate the end of an era with desperate variations on the main title theme.
The third season's music is also distinctive for the inclusion of a song! The ninth episode - 'Sarcophagus' - written by Tanith Lee contains a beautiful short song (05:04), sung by Josette Simon (Dayna) with lyrics and music by Tanith Lee, arranged by Dudley Simpson.
For more on Dudley Simpson's music for the show, please see Tim Dickinson's excellent Watching Blake's 7 blog:

This video is part of a wider project to celebrate the music of Blake's 7. Blake's 7 was created by Terry Nation and made by the BBC across 1978-1981. The clips in the video feature the actors (in order of appearance) Josette Simon (Dayna), Paul Darrow (Avon), Steven Pacey (Tarrant), Michael Sheard (Klegg), Michael Keating (Vila), Jan Chappell (Cally), Jacqueline Pearce (Servalan), Andrew Burt (Jarvik), Rio Fanning (Deral) and Gillian McCutcheon (Kostos).
The Liberator was designed by Roger Murray-Leach and constructed by Ian Scoones, Space Models and Martin Bower with model work by Ian Scoones and Mat Irvine.
The 'Moloch' section is indebted to Horatio Chinn's superb Liberator model: th-cam.com/video/XBS9a7M4DS8/w-d-xo.html

That joke with the woman being strangled is just plain...wrong. I did read somewhere he hated women and this sketch proves it.
Calling David Frost a “television commentator” was a deliberate put-down by Thatcher. His facial expression showed it made an impact. Frost was a renowned journalist, writer, producer and talk-show host who had by this time had interviewed many people of note, including Nixon.
8:19 who is this guy he is so familiar god damnit
@4:58 , thats Jonathan Ross 🙂
Q9. The spoons falling out of the newsreaders sleeves…
One time, a few years ago, I never met Spike Milligan. It didn't happen the next day, too! Coincidences, ay?
I read all books, they are wonderful
The Irish think sideways. 😂
Spike, Londoners think sideways!
The Poms like Spike Milligan, the Goons Monty Python,Goodies were the genius of comedy 😃. Never ever surpassed . Thank you for making light when things were dark.
I've noticed a few lil babies in these comments crticising Spike... bog off! This man is was and will be way more important than you!
How racked is that presenter…… AND HOW RIGHT WAS …. MAGRET THATCHER
The British people couldn't recognise the immense value of Margaret Thatcher. They were blaming her continuously. I am Armenian, I admire her. I WISH WE HAD HER AS OUR PRIME MINISTER!
Real humour that is funny does nto care about laughing at people for whattever reason because those involved laugh at themselves more than anyhone and no it is/was not PC becasue it was funny - modern humour is so busy trying not to be offensive it is totally unfunny there is no joy or fun in it - or it is trying to be intellectual which is just as bad if not worse - these guys were funny to the point you cried and rolled around the floor - stereotypes? that is how people are defined and described people need to get over themselves
It's quite ashame that jokes and humours are now offensive to people nowadays, one small joke about it and people will get mad at you and call you racist for doing it. I know their reasons but its not that enjoyable anymore like it was used to be.
The federation troopers costumes ( the head gear, mainly ) are very impressive.
"He's not a PC man" ffs, he was a comedian, making people laugh...nothing wrong with making people laugh, you should try it sometime.
Genius best ever
This interview is a perfect synopsis Hollywood studio politics and palace intrigue. Welles knew far too much about the machinations of the system and had far too much courage to ever work well within it. The cowards who built the system built the system to reward themselves and others gripped by cowardice and mediocrity, traits Welles severely lacked.
The Godfather of comedy.
David, the beginning of fake news.
I absolutely love this. Blessings and kindest regards David from Melboure Australia. 🌏 🙄☝️
My all time fave
Children.... you are ruining the world because you keep getting offended. FUCK OFF and go to bed. No dessert for you
Having been born in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa in 1943, I remember The Goons on the radio, channel BBC. If I were away from home on a Sunday evening, i needed no provocation to be home by 6pm. when The Goon Show began! I remember the very last show, involving the then Prince Charles, but it was nothing like the shows of the past! Somehow, the advent of TV has done nothing for the Goons, in my mind, because the magic of radio forced the listener to IMAGINE the character! This made the Goons what they are and what they remain to be in my mind. I have a few of Spike's Books, and they never age nor lose their magic! What a team!
Great piece of music, Where can this be released on Apple Music???
I read all his books in my youth and I was impressed by his humility and humanity and of course his humour that was never targeted or hateful. We miss that these days.
You can't explain Miligna (the well known typing error) Yours is not to reason why, yours is but to laugh and cry :D
Lovecraft
She was not able to tell the public that they had new technology and could intercept the Argentinian message to fake leaving and go back and and sink the British ship. She could not let the world know that they had this technology, this is why she says in 30 years you will know the truth. The Capetian of the Belgrano confirmed all of this in his book 25 years later.
Spike Milligan fresh fruit song
Gotta love the BBC's late 70s, early 80s synth music from the Radiophonic workshop.
He one of if not the world's most articulate man
God rest his soul, an absolute comedic genius!
Great music! I loved this song as a kid, and I love it just as much now
What a lady, What a leader, the best not only Britain 🇬🇧 has ever had but the world 🌍 RIP Mrs T
genius
A very not-funny man. But it's become taboo to actually say that. Spike is/was not funny. There, I've said it. He got lucky with his career, but has a certain arrogance when you see his true character shine through during his many TV interviews. I see a quite a selfish man, who believes all the platitudes that have been voiced around him. He was definitely of a depressive nature, but he probably suffered from what we would now call PTSD, that is not his fault obviously. There was 'a war on', as they used to say. So humour is very subjective. Personally, I never 'got' Terence Alan Milligan's sense of humour. I'm fairly sure many people will disagree, but 'Spike' was not funny and had quite a dark side professionally and personally. However, rest in peace Terence. Love and peace.
Great tune, second only to prettiest eyes
What a clown frost is in this interview. Why didn’t you give peace a chance. 😅😅😅
I wonder if they would have asked Churchill why was the Bismarck sunk.
at 6:28 is so key to why many new people succeed, 'ignorance'....not knowing the odds against you. His answer here sums it all up sweetly.
Sad that so little footage of such a giant of music.
It's incredible that he made Citizen Kane when he was 25. The sophistication and wisdom he had at that age is stunning.
Thatcher is the greatest PM this country ever had!
Fantastic stuff. I've really enjoyed all your B7 videos. Thank you for them. Have you heard that there's hopefully going to be a blu-ray release starting from later this year? Exciting times!😊
I agree with Mrs Thatcher
Now look at the state of England. The King & Government has handed our country over to everyone non English/British.
You are doing God's work here.
Wait! So Chandler had Marlowe live where Hammett lived while he was writing The Maltese Falcon?
i can remember watching this on tv years ago. very sad ending. i visited dennis potter's memorial stone in ross on wye. it was looking a bit grimy so i gave it a clean up.
