Bombardier Flexity Classic is a model of Light-Rail Tram manufactured by Bombardier Transportation (now merged into Alstom). Although it is marketed as the most traditionally designed member of the Flexity family, it is still a modern bi-directional articulated Tram with a low-floor section allowing good accessibility, especially to passengers in wheelchairs. Flexity Classic Trams run on 1,435 mm standard gauge in Australia, 1,000 mm metre gauge in Essen, 1,450 mm in Dresden, and 1,458 mm in Leipzig

I did got to see one of these former Australian Streetcars in my home country United States of America that was displayed over at the Western Railway Museum in Suisun City, California. Which was No. 648 and is still operational.
A W2
That’s Right.
It IS doing better! You have about twice the number of subscribers as you had for this chsnnel last time I noticed. These Trams are so different from the old style ones. They almost appear futuristic.
So much rain, the streets are reflective! But what a good spot to film the trams from.
That's the entrance to the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital where I had the Surgery. Was there for an Outpatient appointment
That's a lot of change. I guess that stop must not be heavily used, yeah? Will it leave a huge gap between stops?
I don't understand. There will still be a stop. It'll be like South Road With an elevated line and stop
@@TheTramchannel Oh! I'm not sure why, but I thought you said "eliminated".
@forestxander I did, in that the Level Crossing is being eliminated
@@TheTramchannel Oops! I fully misunderstood that.
@forestxander no worries
That's a pretty busy, fast-paced four-lane road. I can see how an overpass might be safer for pedestrians and keep the vehicle traffic smoothe. I hope it doesn't put a dent in the accessibility for the elderly and/or disabled.
It'll have Lifts
@@TheTramchannel It looks and sounds as though it's the right idea for the area. I hope they do a good job of it.
@forestxander they had practice at South Road, so should be alright
@TheTramchannel That's the stop with the black & white patterned pillar I commented about, right? They did do a nice job there. I liked the curves in the concrete too; it wasn't all blocky looking. It seemed to have a well thought-out design from form to function.
@forestxander yes
What an interesting structure. I like that one decorated pillar, with the patterns in black & white.
Might be different next time we see it
Really excellent head-on view. Looks like it's cold there.
Wasn't hot, that's for sure
we are also open on thrus between 10am-3pm on school holidays & public holidays from 11am-4pm
I wonder if local grade schools do field trips to this museum. It's definitely the sort of thing my school would do when I was a kid.
No idea. Maybe one day we might be surprised. While trying to make one of the videos I got kicked off a Tram for a Tour group. The guy made a promise he never kept after kicking me off and I wasn't impressed with him but in a later visit he was very accommodating. I think he wanted to make it up for me. I'm glad he did because I hold a grudge
Latest video doesn't have a single view. TH-cam really don't like the two channels I refused to identify on. Not that they got that on the others but it wasn't a requirement then
I'm guessing Grade is Primary School? Grade 3 to 6 is Primary School, was to 7 in my day. Grade 7 to 12 is High School here. Grade 1 and 2 Prep(?), don't have kids or a memory for that guff
@@TheTramchannel Pretty much, yeah. Grade schools are usually kindergarten through 5th (as was my daughter's), sometimes 1st-6th. Middle School is normally 6th-8th. Mine was 7th-9th, but only because the High School building wasn't large enough to accommodate 9th-12th.
I’m really enjoying these videos, thank you. The car on the road beyond Cuthberts is W2 407, from the Melbourne Tramcar Preservation Association.
@@MattsScaleModels thanks for that piece of information
What an incredibly detailed description! Wow!!

@@TheTramchannel Btw... how have you been feeling? Are you healing up well?
I wonder how they settled on their various colour schemes.
@@forestxander pretty sure they're Corporate Colours. Also our National colours, Green and Gold
@@TheTramchannel Makes sense.
Even though it’s electric, it’s still amazingly quiet. I’m trying to imagine how peaceful it’d be without the car traffic!

@@TheTramchannel oh yeah, don’t doubt that. I remember catching the h types at glenelg
@@grimsley9989 I drove H-Type Trams from '89 to '93
@@TheTramchannel nice. Bit before my time sadly, but they were a joy to be in! Shame they stopped running them altogether; would’ve been great to have at least one on the line
@@grimsley9989 they can't be run because they aren't accessible by handicapped people
The paint job makes it look a bit like a tram in a tux from the outside.
I like it a lot
Does the grass around the tracks pose any danger?
Don't think so. I don't think the brakes get hot enough to drop hot enough particles
It's not a simple thing to keep something that old up and running. It's nice that the effort is put in.
They're a dedicated bunch of people, that's for sure
I've never seen one of those. What did you call it?
No. 8 the Scrubber?
@@TheTramchannel Yes! I thought that was what you said but wasn't 100% sure.
Is this tram for public transportation?
No, it's a working Museum piece
@@TheTramchannel Thank you
Хулиганистый очень сильно их нельзя оставлять открытыми
It's a working Museum. The Trams that they don't want you in are roped off
They all seem to be in an immaculate condition, a real credit to whoever has been looking after them.
They're a very dedicated bunch there
I love that they've been preserved for folks to continue to see and enjoy them.
I agree
Мурлыка пушистенький трамвайчик
What's the dumbest tram u have ever seen? Have u ever seen one and just went "what the hell was that idiot thinking when he designed/built that"? Or are all the trams pretty solid?
were also open on Thursday during the school holidays & public holidays as well
Fancy... bet it makes for a unique experience.
Yeah, most people are probably more interested in the High Tea than the Tram
@@TheTramchannel I rather like the idea of the combination of the two, but I bet you are not wrong.
They sure are better looking than your average city bus.
@@forestxander I hate Buses because of the fumes. I used to ride my Bike everywhere before I had a Car and I've always hated Buses because of their fumes. It's a huge pain having to deal with them in traffic too. Cyclists also hate Trams because of the Tracks but I never rode near the Ttams. Never went that side of town. I actually didn't know there were Trams in Adelaide until I was offered the job. I had too many penalty points on my Licence to get the job of a Bus Driver which I'd applied for. I'll never forget the look on their faces when I said "have we got Trams"?
@@TheTramchannel Interesting, how life turns out. I rode my bike everywhere when I lived in Florida. We had buses, but not many. They eventually built the tri-rail, which I used to commute to a job for a while. No trams. The big issue with riding your bike everywhere in Florida is rain and wind... at least, that's what I thought. My town was small, and not not a tourist destination (back then, it is now) so traffic congestion wasn't really an issue.
The clanging bell is kind of a nice sound. More pleasant than any car horn.
I love Tram Bells.
@@forestxander I was a prolific Bell clanger. Every opportunity I had and possibly more

Yes, it's good that some have been preserved
Nice catch. They've really done an excellent job with the museum, imo.
@@forestxander yes, they work hard

Get the paint stripper onto 352. That silver paint is an act of vandalism.
@@jeffrey3895 I agree. I can't understand why you'd paint a refurbished H-Type those colours
@@jeffrey3895 352 was refurbished after I worked there. Wasn't really a fan of the refurbished H-Type Trams
Pretty, but seemingly not very practical. I can't put my finger on it, but it somehow puts me in mind of the rig everyone rides on in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, while Gene Wilder sings a creepy ditty.
Doesn't rain much in Adelaide. Shoudn't trust a Man giving away Lollies/Candy
Don't get notifications for stuff with my two channel history channels.
That's a pretty cool design, with the stairs on both ends like that. I fell in love with the dounle-decker buses in London. I always thought it would be fun to convert one of those into a tiny home/camper.
They have a Horse Tram(s?) at BTM. Hopefully it'll be on the Track during the next School Holidays. There's an operating one at Victor Harbor South Australia. I've been on it but that was last century
@@TheTramchannel Horses are beautiful animals.
A good example of a Melbourne W7. Still has the original wood framed 3 panel glass doors. Most were replaced with 2 panel aluminium framed doors. The original upholstery was green with green painted masonite interior cladding. The brown and laminex woodgrain began appearing in the 70's. They differed from the W6 in the centre saloon layout; having seats running lengthways to allow more standing room. Beautiful to drive. Did you find that some H cars were nicer to drive than others? My favourite tram was 799 which was a Melbourne W5 which had RC1 14 notch controllers instead of the 10 notch Clydes. Don't think it was preserved.
@@jeffrey3895 yes, there were a couple that made your shift a little less pleasant. Some of them had been refurbished and they were good in winter because they didn't let water and wind in like the opening window did but they were a horror in the heat
@@jeffrey3895 my favourite was the Restaurant Tram. Free food. Virtually no driving. Most everyone hated it because you had to entertain yourself at the Bay while they were having their meal. I loved just walking around the number one tourist destination while being paid.
@@TheTramchannel I drove the first restaurant tram in Melbourne which was a W2 class numbered 442. Ran in a loop to Caulfield where it had to be turned around so that the boarding doors were on the correct side at the end of the run. Sometimes there were roadworks and the tram had to be diverted. The roster department didn't always get it right and it was handy to know where all the crossovers were. Last I saw of tram 442 was lying in a sorry state at Preston Workshops with a gaping hole in the roof where the air-conditioning unit had been removed. Now live in Victor Harbor. Would like to get involved with the tram museum but it is bit far to drive. Would love to get behind the controls of a Melbourne W again.

@@TheTramchannel You are not too far from Dunkeld. Good bakery there.
Molten metal on your head?! Holy crap!!
@@forestxander best bit was being told that couldn't of happened. They sent out one of the maintenance guys and he indeed confirmed that that had happened but I've been called a liar my whole life. Especially in the TH-cam comments section. People always forget that truth is stranger than fiction
@@TheTramchannel I've been called a liar over some of the oddest things. I think some people just like to spark arguments for argument's sake more on the internet than they dare to irl.
@@forestxander I think it's because they have very little life experience. People have trouble believing that which they've never experienced
@@forestxander I'll even use a Tram story as evidence. In my time driving I had seven collisions. A Lady Tram driver one day decided to berate me about that claiming that because she had none that I was a bad driver and she was a good driver and that obviously these collisions were my fault. Not long after that a car pulled out in front of her and she collided with it right in front of me. The look on her face was priceless. She never said another word to me after that about anything.
@@TheTramchannel That's pretty insightful. Yeah, the older I get, the dumber some people seem.
Handsome vehicle. H-type... that's what you operated, isn't it?

Was this part of the Tram Museum? I don't recall seeing it before. It's interesting.

I'm obviously a mo ron because I don't know what AETM is.
@TheTramchannel ah, sorry for using jargon, the Australian Electric Transport Museum (SA) is the name of the society that runs the St Kilda museum. It's a habit of mine to often refer to tram museums by the name of the groups that run them. I wasn't trying to be a smartar$e.
