For far too many people, building a home is intimidating and disempowering. Folks don't necessarily know they want inspired and thoughtful design. Not everybody will ask architects to make something special for them.
Uncommon celebrates design and architecture. We seek to inspire by featuring buildings of architectural significance (no cliché and nothing glib) and taking a trip into the minds of industry leaders and rising talents. We investigate the thought and creation process, how they make sense of life with a building.
Young residents of Athens used to take an oath to leave their city better - more beautiful - than it was left to them. They understood the power of architecture, its ability to stir, heal, rejuvenate. When done well, architecture added to the sum of human happiness, uplifting communities, reducing crime and transforming economies. This is our ambition.
There are forces at work against those that want to produce meaningful architecture.
This is our push back.

S2E2: A House Within A Shed by Tina Periquet
Most roofs are like a hat. They perch on top of the house to deflect the elements, but on a hot day they gather heat, and they can only take so much rain.
In a land constantly battered by sun and rain, you need more than a hat - you need an umbrella. And, perhaps, so does your home.
Inspired by the simple notion of a canopy floating overhead, allowing air to flow freely underneath while giving shade and shelter, Studio Periquet Galicia designed "a house within a shed". The structure is an arrangement of boxes set on a low tiled platform, which protects it from flood waters while providing a covered sidewalk all around the house.
Hovering above is a large pitched roof, supported by four massive pillars - an archetypal image of human shelter, deconstructed to respond to the realities of a tropical environment.
Space, air and light flow as freely inside as outside, from the open plan of the ground floor to the shaded roof deck below the canopy. The layout is flexible, able to adapt to the needs of a growing family with an evolving lifestyle. Tall windows bring daylight deep into the core of the house, while creating a stately rhythm of light and shade that both calms and uplifts.
The result is the best-selling model of Magis Homes' design-and-build platform. Aldo - a sheltered house.

San po location ng office nyo
what kind of bamboo is that? very sophisticated. nagblend sa design
I'm a fan of brutalist, minimalist, and interesting edifices. Arki student here. Truly, many love highly ornamented buildings, so do I. But these kinds are what really strike my heart and imagination. Thanks for featuring this. 🖤
Omg! Are we the same person? I'm also in love with minimalist, brutalist and simple kinds of style. Though I'm not an architect (I'm in the medical field) I've recently started taking some interest in architecture. I find it really creative and interesting 😅. Good luck in your studies though 👍
Jorge Yulo is a hero of ours. Looking forward to seeing your work soon. Push on, Architect!
@@ethiopiazoldyk4667 Hehe thank you! Yes, indeed, architecture is an interesting field, architects must me creative, innovative, and empathetic to the environment and people. Good luck on your studies too! When I was still deciding what course to take 5 years ago, BS Psychology is one on my list. Medical professionals are gems and heroes, thanks to you all. Maybe we can be friends :)

@@UncommonPH Thank you! I hope that I can meet Architect Yulo someday :)
Grand & Beautiful 😢
I love this house so much ❤
So do we! Thanks for your thoughts.
this is Brutalist AF but i like it a lot! some minor personalized additions by the homeowner and it’ll be a great home!
Normally, the Build Your Own (BYO) or the self build house design in the country is just like that but because of the idea of fully painted with corners detailing increases the cost. But what makes a beautiful house of a Filipino ugly are the collatillas of appliances, shoes, sleepers, boxes that exudes the space and beauty of the interiors....mabasura tayo. Imagine you are six in the family with 4 pairs of sleepers, shoes, bags, etc...
Salamat po nakita ko to...
Solar panels na Lang kulang...classy home.
This house is built to impress. Not for living.
While searching some house designs which is perfect for my preferences and a budget friendly, I'm lucky to see this video, I will contact the architect if I will have my budget already, very calm home.
Wow!!!! Sana magkaroon din ako ng ganyan someday!!!! @mikeebfly
Excellent concept. But I didn’t see a rainwater saving container. Still this design is very good. I also love the white interiors, this here is not cold!
Great idea with the rain the PH gets. But, as always, it will come down to the owner’s willingness to add on. The owners of this home were a lovely young couple. Thanks for your thoughts.
Zen! Simple but complex!
wish we could have seen more of the house. i think all we got was 3 corner shots and a window
I wish they will release the plans to help those who want to rebuild this.
hearing and seeing filipinos minimizing clutter in their house is fucking mind boggling, almost everyone in my family, extended family and friends and relatives all shove random shit in their house and pile up stuff that is unnecessary and unneeded. my grandfather has a house with this same philosophy and it's been open space since the 2000s. 2 decades later, still open space.
Love the word brutal And more to RAW
That roof is a simple, brilliant and purposeful design element. Nicely done.
Yes, we agree. Keeps the house cool even without help from an AC. You have remarkable work. We particularly liked the Twilight Progression series - would’ve been perfect for this house!
this is perfect and cheap.
This is a beautiful example of a good quality yet low-cost home. 🙂
Naol
Great❤....
Beautiful!
Less than 1 million PHP? Wonderful.
Wow, this is gorgeous
sir contractor reveal please
Very intriguing and enticing...The house is like a furniture, I'll call it a haus-niture!!
I don't know architecture, but this is a beautiful representation of one.
Fantastic architecture! Pure genius! But so is this video about it. Amazing filming and editing and Yulo himself explaining his ideas and thinking. Anyone know the music playing in the background?
Thank you for your kind words. Wish we could remember top of our heads. We will get back to you when we do. Thanks for being here.
Nangibabaw sya sa mga bahay na katabi, maganda
I'm pretty much interested with this design style, Can i ask what is the wall finish and floor finish of this house? Thank you for those who can answer.
Concept overrides technicalities means expensive to buy. Lol
Does the architect have other projects like this?
Beautiful house. ❤ from India. Congrats to home owner and architect for the masterpiece.
I resonate that I will build my own home by you Sir.. I was amazed by what I've seen and this is what type of house, I would like to have😊
Napaka ganda.
wow. a truly thoughtful project, Imagine if many designers are like sir Carlson. even the tiniest house in a not so sought after residential area in the Philippines and the less fortunate people would get a greatly designed house. with a calm environment and aesthetically pleasing place. I like this. it's very good and it's a touchy video.
Less calculated? Seems rather heavy on precision mathematics.
How to contact Arch. Justin Guaib?
You can see that this project says a lot about Master Jorge Yulo! What an incredible architect! Truly otherworldly!
Awesome video awesome content! Just can’t hear the interview much being drowned out by the music. 😅
❤
great video. i know the house is awesome but the music made it more awesome.
I miss you videos 🥹🥹
Curious if labour and architects fee were included to the 800k cost
There's a tremendous amount going on here....
Ang galing naman nito mismong bahay pinayungan. 🥰
I just came to leave a negative comment.
I’m in love! I love the layout of the house. 🤩
