Halley antarctic research station tour (2004)
Video tour of Halley Research Station, Antarctica. Filmed during my first winter in 2004 it shows the Laws platform (the main accommodation building) and gives a sense what life was like during the Antarctic winter.

Great work! 👍
Thanks for sharing. I wintered 1992 and 93. I'm sure the Celtic cross on the mantlepiece above the fire in the 'lounge' was mine.
Very nostalgic! It is interesting to see how little things change over the years since my time in Z98,99

Wow
Thanks for this, first time I have seen it although I knew it was out there. My uncle, Dr Alan Rogers was in the crossing party as the medical officer and this is something to hang on to as a memory as he died a few years ago.
Thanks a lot for sharing this documentary! It was fascinating to see how advanced technologies these men could use comparing to their predecessors only some decades earlier.
Fascinating footage. Thanks.
Fregusons have only 28 hp.
I think it was Hillary`s greatest achievement. It showed it was possible succesfully to cover the distance with simple technology. Later professional Antarctics explorers were very angry, because Hillary was an amateur and used some ordinary 28 hp tractors instead 500 hp special vehicles.
Hi, most people say "Operation Sealion" would have failed because the Germans wanted to use river barges (mostly from Holland, France, and Belgium) to cross the English Channel. They say that it would have been impossible to do so but you have proved them wrong!!!
hahaha, Hillary was just such a smartie! Using simple agricultural tractors with such success,
Hi! Major Jim Adams is mentioned in my copy (Russian translation) of Fuchs & Hillary book "Crossing the Antarctica" - for example in the fifteenth chapter "two journeys of topographers from Scott base". Mentioned as a "Physiologist of Medical Research Council who worked in Mc-Murdo sound" - i.e. this person is participant of neighboring expedition, not TAE. Could he be the man you are searching for?
Hi Duncan, I'd suggest taking a look at zfids -dot- org -dot- uk and maybe emailing them. They have a mailing list with people who were at Halley going back many years. Possibly someone might know something. I also found a pdf about him but you tube doesn't let me post links. The link is at ramcjournal -dot- com and the rest of the url is 1974/3/adam.pdf. Good luck, Simon
I have been trying to find information about my Mother's cousin, Col James Adam. He took part in Vivian Fuch's expedition. Not sure what role he played but he was a Physiologist for the Royal Army Medical Corps. I have a couple of photos when he was there and a copy of "A Traveller's Guide To Health" which he wrote and was published in 1966 for the Royal Geographic Society. He is still living (age 94?) in England.
thank you for taking the time to post this... awesome!
Get your fuel tank cleaned out before you go and bring lots of spare fuel filters, as all the rocking can disturb gunk from the bottom and stop your engine. If possible install a dual filter so you can change them without stopping. If you've just brought the boat, make sure you bring your ownership papers (we got boarded by dutch immigration). Tie everything down, and bring a life-raft, emergency gear (you can hire it). Good luck!
hi hi - i'm thinking abut crossing the channel with a dutch barge soon , any tips or tricks pls ?
How did you get stone carvings onto youtube?
Wow. Now here's something ya don't see everyday! Where & how in the heck did you ever even find this??? It's amazing! For about the last 1-1.5yrs I have suddenly become infatuated, mesmerized & hypnotized by every, any & all things Arctic (& to a lesser degree, Antarctic). This post of yours is a real treasure. Thank you so very much for sharing it.
Thank you so much for putting this up on youtube
