Zevon fans aren't hard to find these days, from talk show host, David Letterman and the entire Late Night Band (a band that Zevon led whenever Paul Schaffer was away), comedian Adam Sandler, and all the musicians that regularly perform covers of his music like Bob Dylan, Shooter Jennings, and even some newer acts like Dawes. Jackson Brown, however, has championed, and proudly performed, our beloved Warren's music since the beginning, and still does to this day. If you get a chance to see Jackson Brown live, I highly recommend doing so -- it's not uncommon for him to throw a Zevon tune or two in the setlist.

There’s a stunning version of Hit Somebody live on the David Letterman show in 2002. Incidentally on the album version of Hit Somebody, it’s David Letterman who sings “Hit Somebody”

Listening to this version, you can understand why the song wasn't included on his first Asylum album. He hadn't yet written the part about the werewolf at Trader Vic's.

NOBODY rocked it like Wazu! Ask Letterman or Schaeffer to this day. After Warren's last guest stint on Letterman...he presented Dave with his signature grey Stratocaster (grey was WAZU'S favourite colour) Dave wept. As Warren himself said: "Dave is the best friend my music ever had." Letterman. wouldn't have anyone but Warren cover for Paul. He called Warren "GENIUS". HE WAS SO RIGHT. And Warren was the ONLY one to have an entire LETTERMAN SHOW with him as sole guest. This was a talk show host who had PRESIDENTS as guests. And because the editor of Rolling Stone is a D!CK.. Warren never gets credit for ANYTHING. Check out the lyrics for "EVEN A DOG CAN SHAKE HANDS" SAVAGE!!! I LOVE MY GOD OF MUSIC...

I played Ice Hockey and Piano ! Warren was the best ! The John Lennon of Canada ? Lyrics , incredible and spot on ! I wasn't a goon or a star , I was 140 lb defenseman trying to clear the crease and avoid slap shots . When I heard this , it brought me back to 1977-78 , my Championship year and 1978-79 my losing season ( 0 - 12 ) and a game I had to be a referee involving two 6 footers who were both goons and hated each other ! It was a long night ! I got hit more as a ref than as a defenseman ! I miss Warren as I miss John Lennon , every time I hear their songs !

Can you imagine were he still with us the things he'd have to say about us today, with no fear what so ever if the "retribution" king, if he weren't a gutless coward.

So happy to have discovered this! Have every album/disc of both of these brilliant artists. First discovered Warren when I was in college (close to 50 years ago), and once I learned of his friendship/association with Jackson (of whom I was already a huge fan), I was all in. Got to see Warren perform live a number of times in club venues, and it was always such a treat. Gone way too soon - hope he's finally recognized by the RRHOF. Couldn't hit that subscribe button fast enough!
