Hi - Is it hard to keep these notebooks open, while writing? It seems like a lot of effort is going to hold the book open. Is that cumbersome?

I absolutely love the simplicity and functionality of this set up. I've been using multiple planners/journals for a couple of years and I'm really craving combining them into one. I also love that you have your reading insert included. Something else I've been considering doing. Thanks for the ideas and sharing!

I’m also writing my 2025 goals, so it’s on my mind a lot, and I’m finding it harder as I’ve just retired and moving into a different life phase with a whole heap of new opportunities! Perhaps why my earlier comment was a bit on the proscriptive side - so sorry! You can of course take or leave any of it.

I use the goals pages slightly differently to you - perhaps a product of our different approach to Goals. I write my ultimate goal outcome first, not just the category - with the deadline. It’s the long term end result and could take 10 or twenty years to achieve. This one gets repeated in every subsequent planner eg I am financially secure and own my home outright before I retire. I think using someday as a timeline keeps us in the realm of dreams and wishes, so I would re-label that column either to a shorter timeline eg five years, and enter what life will look like at the time in terms of finances, or list what being financially secure looks like to you. Then on this year I would note what outcome(s) at the end of this year will move me toward the goals, eg i have added £1000 to the savings pot. And six month is the same approach. So the right page are my milestones or checkpoints that i need to reach. These are written as if they have already happened. The left page is noting the action I will take to reach these milestones - eg as in your quarterly, I will declutter and sell what i no longer need, monthly - i will review my budget and adjust to find savings opportunities as I set next month’s, weekly - i will plan my expenses according to need and discretionary wants, daily - I will consider every potential purchase in terms of need, cost etc and find a less expensive alternative when I can. If I don’t need it, I will list it as a want (for review monthly).

Hi ! Keep a color scheme all of the year seems very aesthetic but really restrictive, you'll more freedom to just take a "fresh start" each quarter with the color scheme which inspires you :)

Meawhile my commonplace has guides and growth charts for my tamagotchis. I have been putting quotes in mine and I do really like the idea of keeping mental health reminders and food reminders too!

Have you tried or seen the Filofax refillable notebooks - you do need to get the filofax hole punch to make your own pages, but its worth it. That you can move the pages order around is the winner. My A5 refillable notebook fits into a Hobonichi cover, and of course the Filofax folio covers.

After I got my standard TN from Traveler's Company I knew I needed a passport and now im just waiting for it to get delivered lol The leather feels so good from TC. With my standard I dont even notice the knot tbh but I wonder if that will be different with my passport! I am planning to use my passport for common placing as well! My plan for my passport is, Monthly insert, commonplacing & just general notes/scratch paper

I can only do rings when they’re sitting on the desk. That’s pretty much it. There are times when I just sit there and write, so they are still working for me for specific purposes.

Is this the September Leather TN? I ask because it looks just like mine and I love it. I keep rubbing my hands over it after my hand cream has been on for a while and the leather is looking amazing now 😀

You might want to look at the PaperTess Design as it sounds like it fits what you want. I believe with the dated planners they group up the month, weeks and has grid paper at the back in the compact, but check if that's the case with her TN size. Edit: Also wanted to add that I have the Personal size in brown and the Passport in Camel and I think they're a nice match (I do also have a passport in blue though!)

I also bought the moterm canvas insert, I didn't like it either so never use it. I got the TRC versions, so much better 😊

There are also other small ring manufacturers, but in the US they are probably more exotic. Plotter is a great choice.

That wallet insert I hate the feeling too. I have it in passport. It feel horrific. But it’s functional lol.

I still have my little pocket rings that i think i’ll use as a household and long term book … but… the passport tn got me… Mainly because i love a more bound small book and i stim so much by just flipping back and forth with pages that a bound book just hits different (also have you looked into creffective paper or papertess designs??)

Rings are hard. I’m a lefty, so the smaller the rings, the better. I REALLY love TNs because the inserts are shorter and pretty modular. Especially if you utilize the halfway point of an insert. Edit: if you want to have a passport that holds more than two or three inserts without worry about overhang, I recommend Chic Sparrow! You can really stuff them.

I feel the same as you about ring binders, with the rings getting in the way. I have the same issue with spiral-bound notebooks too. I moved into a TN in August (I made the cover myself - actually made the standard TN and a passport size as well, but I'm not currently using the passport one. My TN's like yours; nice and fat and will hold at least 4 inserts, so I can keep everything in the same place.

I feel the same about binders and the rings getting in the way, currently I turn it 90 degrees and use printouts in landscape... working so far :)

I just went through this same process from a5 rings to standard tn. If you're looking for a cute commonplace that you can carry with you, I put a clear pocket inside of my tn and put a Field Notes in there. There are so many cute ones.
